A fundamental concept related to strings is that of repetitions. It has been extensively studied in many versions, from both purely combinatorial and algorithmic angles. One of the most basic questions is how many distinct squares, i.e., distinct strings of the form UU, a string of length n can contain as fragments. It turns out that this is always O(n), and the bound cannot be improved to sublinear in n [Fraenkel and Simpson, JCTA 1998]. Several similar questions about repetitions in strings have been considered, and by now we seem to have a good understanding of their repetitive structure. For higher-dimensional strings, the basic concept of periodicity has been successfully extended and applied to design efficient algorithms – it is inherently more complex than for regular strings. Extending the notion of repetitions and understanding the repetitive structure of higher-dimensional strings is however far from complete. Quartics were introduced by Apostolico and Brimkov [TCS 2000] as analogues of squares in two dimensions. Charalampopoulos, Radoszewski, Rytter, Waleń, and Zuba [ESA 2020] proved that the number of distinct quartics in an n × n 2D string is O(n2 log2 n) and that they can be computed in O(n2 log2 n) time. Gawrychowski, Ghazawi, and Landau [SPIRE 2021] constructed an infinite family of n × n 2D strings with Ω(n2 log n) distinct quartics. This brings the challenge of determining asymptotically tight bounds. Here, we settle both the combinatorial and the algorithmic aspects of this question: the number of distinct quartics in an n × n 2D string is O(n2 log n) and they can be computed in the worst-case optimal O(n2 log n) time. As expected, our solution heavily exploits the periodic structure implied by occurrences of quartics. However, the two-dimensional nature of the problem introduces some technical challenges. This study presents a novel approach for brain MRI classification by integrating multiple state-of-the-art deep learning (DL) architectures, including VGG16, EfficientNet, MobileNet, AlexNet, and ResNet50, with an attention mechanism. The primary objective was to accurately detect the presence or absence of brain tumors—a critical challenge in medical diagnosis. The methodology was validated on a comprehensive dataset comprising 3264 brain MRI scans, systematically divided into training, validation, and testing subsets. Preprocessing techniques tailored for MRI data were employed to enhance input quality. Each model was initially developed and evaluated individually to establish a performance baseline before their integration. The proposed ensemble technique capitalized on the complementary strengths of these models to enhance classification accuracy and robustness. The inclusion of an attention mechanism further refined the models by emphasizing critical regions in the MRI scans, thereby boosting predictive performance. In addition, data augmentation techniques were applied to mitigate overfitting and increase dataset resilience. Performance metrics, including precision, accuracy, and recall, demonstrated significant improvements across all evaluations, particularly for the models incorporating the attention mechanism. These findings highlight the potential of combining advanced DL architectures with attention mechanisms as a promising strategy for precise and reliable brain tumor classification in MRI scans. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The discovery of Road Traffic Accident (RTA) patterns is vital to formulate mitigation strategies based on the characteristics of RTA. Various studies have applied association rule mining for RTA pattern discovery. However, limited research has conducted a comparative analysis of RTA patterns in different regions. This work is necessary to identify the similarities and differences of RTA characteristics between different regions, especially the developed and developing countries with different RTA trends in fatality rates. This work explored the application of association rule mining (FP-Growth algorithm) to discover and compare the RTA patterns for developed and developing countries. The Orange Data Mining software is used to discover RTA patterns for Ethiopia (12,317 samples) and the UK (United Kingdom) (1,048,575 samples), representing developing and developed countries. Eventually, findings showed similarities and differences in RTA patterns between Ethiopia and the UK. Road characteristics and conditions are the common factors contributing to RTA severity levels, while other crucial factors include the light condition and speed limit. In conclusion, the discovery of RTA patterns in different regions is beneficial to assist in formulating strategies to reduce the risk of RTA. Future work is necessary to discover the RTA patterns from different perspectives, such as seasonal or periodical variations of RTA patterns. © 2023 IEEE.

Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have demonstrated remarkable performance in classification and regression tasks on RGB-based pathological inputs. The network's prediction mechanism must be interpretable to establish trust in the clinical routine. One principal approach to interpretation is feature attribution. Feature attribution methods identify the importance of input features for the output prediction. Building on the Information Bottleneck Attribution (IBA) method, we recognize the RGB's input regions with high mutual information with the network's output for each prediction. IBA identifies input regions that have sufficient predictive information. In this paper, we introduce "IBATree", a novel approach that combines IBA with decision trees to enhance both the interpretability and accuracy of DNNs in cancer cell classification. Our method leverages the information bottleneck framework to inject noise into feature maps and then isolates the most informative features for model predictions while maintaining high classification performance. We evaluated our proposed approach on three datasets - CNMC, ISBI2016, and BreaKHis - demonstrating competitive accuracy and producing clear interpretations. This makes IBATree particularly suitable for clinical applications, where understanding the rationale behind predictions is crucial. Our results show that IBATree provides reliable predictions and valuable insights into feature importance, paving the way for its application in various biomedical domains. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays, the internet has become an essential part of the current scenario. Due to the rapid expansion of the social network industry, people are using its platforms to share their opinions on current events. It is important to collect and evaluate consumer feedback on products, services, and other topics. It is of utmost importance to determine if an endorsement or criticism of war operations leads to the universal message as the crisis between Russia and Ukraine has worsened and more foreign powers are involved. The abundant writings on the critical connection between public opinion to international relations support the above-mentioned objective. This study focuses mainly on Twitter text data extracted by Twitter API during the Ukraine-Russia war timeline and is available on Kaggle. Sentimental analysis using various supervised machine learning techniques, including Random Forest, Xtreme Gradient Boosting, Support Vector Machine, and Logistic Regression. Also, the comparison of their performance based on various metrics, including the accuracy and precision of the data is presented. As a result, it investigates the opinions and reactions of the global world to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. © 2023 IEEE.

Academic and financial sectors are interested in research areas that focus on understanding the patterns of financial activities and predicting their future changes. The daily movement of financial data involves complex, insufficient, and ambiguous information, making its prediction an extremely difficult endeavour. The issues of forecasting and analysing financial data is therefore complex and time-dependent. Deep neural networks (DNNs) can be used to solve nonlinear problems more effectively than conventional machine learning techniques. This study proposes an intelligent and optimal model CuDNNLSTM-Multi(1dCNN) for stock market price prediction using a hybrid of CUDA based Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and Multiple One Dimensional Convolution Neural Networks (CNNs). A variety of models, including Multiple CuDNNLSTM-CNN, Multi-CuDNNLSTM, Multi (1dCNN), are used to compare the prediction performance of the proposed model. In terms of RMSE, MAE, and MAPE, the results show that the suggested model outperforms all hybrid and individual models. © 2023 IEEE.

The ability to continuously follow a target person in a dynamically changing environment remains a major challenge that indoor companion robots confront. Ongoing human following is complicated by close similarity matching and target occlusions. Person Re-Identification (re-ID) is a computer vision task that can help with the problem of intentional or unintentional occlusion of the subject or person of interest. Numerous research has been conducted on re-ID where the basic assumption is that the gallery set will only have non-occluded person images. This paper examines the problem from a human detection perspective and surveys the state-of-the-art of person re-ID, their achievement and shortcomings. A region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) Re-ID is proposed in this research. The findings from the prototyping and evaluation demonstrate that the proposed person Re-ID model is reliable for indoor re-ID situations. Thus, future works in this direction include investigating other factors, such as the number of persons in a scene and varying viewing angles of the probed target person, which can impact the performance of the proposed re-ID model. © 2023 ACM.

Networks that use visible light communication (VLC) are suitable for meeting 5G and 6G criteria. The VLC is a new wireless high-speed communication technology. To meet the bandwidth requirements of bandwidth-hungry devices, VLC makes use of the illumination infrastructure. VLC is an excellence alternative to communication 6G technologies because of its immunology to electromagnetic interference, high data rate, high reuse factor and capacity to operate in an unlicensed band. Although the standard of IEEE 802.15.7 would provide detailed physical and medium access control layer standards, the emerging VLC technology confronts MAC issues. However, MAC-specific solutions in wireless networks need not resolve VLC network issues. Full-duplex capability, deafness, channel use, hidden nodes, and connectivity should all be considered in VLC MAC approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

The increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive network applications, such as video streaming, multimedia, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, necessitates improved resource management to protect the network without compromising Quality of Service (QoS). Meeting these challenges requires a centralized view of all available network resources. software Defined Networking (SDN), an emerging technology, provides a centralized view and control of network resources. This feature enables administrators to programmatically define and manage network behavior, including routing, making it more flexible and adaptable. This study proposes a QoS-aware routing scheme for SDN that considers available bandwidth, packet delay, and packet loss to determine the optimal routing path. Optimal paths are selected based on meeting predefined threshold criteria. The study concludes by discussing potential directions for future research in this field. © 2023 IEEE.
