Motion vehicles tracking in intelligent transportation visual surveillance systems

In terms of the difficulty of vehicle tracking in complex environment of the visual surveillance system, an object tracking algorithm is proposed for the applications in practical visual surveillance systems for intelligent traffic. A block-based Gaussian mixture background modeling method for object detection is presented to reduce the computational complexity of moving vehicle object abstraction. An adaptive tracking algorithm fused with color features and texture features is described to better adapt the traffic scene variation. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively deal with the complex urban traffic conditions and the tracking performance is better than the conventional particle filter method and single feature based non-adaptive object tracking method.

In order to enhance the glutathione peroxidase（GPX） catalytic activity of the selenium-containing single-chain variable fragments（Se-scFv）, a novel human scFv was designed on the basis of the structure of human antibody and optimized via bioinformatics methods such as homologous sequence analysis, three-dimensional（3D） model building, binding-site analysis and docking. The DNA sequence of the new human scFv was synthesized and cloned into the expression vector pET22b（＋）, then the scFv protein was expressed in soluble form in Escherichia coli BL21（DE3） and purified by Ni2＋-immobilized metal affinity chromatography（IMAC）. The serine residue of scFv in the active site was converted into selenocysteine（Sec） with the chemical modification method, thus, the human Se-scFv with GPX activity was obtained. The GPX activity of the Se-scFv protein was characterized. Compared with other Se-scFv, the new human Se-scFv showed similar efficiency for catalyzing the reduction of hydrogen peroxide by glutathione. It exhibited pH and temperature dependent catalytic activity and a typical ping-pong kinetic mechanism.

Experiment design for quantum channel parameter estimation includes the design of the quantum input to the channel and the observables to be applied on the resulting quantum output system, called the experiment configuration. An experiment design procedure based on maximizing the Fisher information of the qubit Pauli channel parameters is presented in this paper. It can be shown that the Fisher information is a convex function in both the input and the experiment configuration parameters. This leads to an optimal setting that includes pure input states and projective measurements directed towards the channel directions. An iterative method of estimating the channel directions is also proposed. © 2011 IFAC.

Complex chemical reaction networks often exhibit different dynamic behaviour on different time scales. A combined approach is proposed in this work for determining physically meaningful mass action realizations of complex chemical reaction networks that describe its dynamic behaviour on different time scales. This is achieved by appropriately reducing the detailed overall mass action kinetic scheme using quasi steady state assumptions fit to the particular time scale, and then searching for an optimal realization using mixed integer linear programing. Furthermore, the relationship between the properties (reversibility, deficiency, stability) of the obtained realizations of the same system on different time scales are also investigated and related to the same properties of the detailed overall model. It is shown that the reduced models obtained by quasi steady state assumptions may show exotic nonlinear behaviour, such as oscillations, when the original detailed is globally asymptotically stable. The proposed methods are illustrated by using a simple Michaelis-Menten type reaction kinetic example. The simplified versions of the well known Brusselator model have also been investigated and presented as a case study. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper presents a vision-tracking for mobile robots, which tracks a moving target based on robot motion and stereo vision information. The proposed system controls pan and tilt actuators attached to a stereo camera, using the data from a gyroscope, robot wheel encoders, pan and tilt actuator encoders, and the stereo camera. Using this proposed system, the stereo camera always faces the moving target. The developed system calculates the angles of the pan and tilt actuators by estimating the relative position of the target with respect to the position of the robot. The developed system estimates the target position using the robot motion information and the stereo vision information. The movement of the robot is modeled as the transformation of the frame, which consists of a rotation and a translation. The developed system calculates the rotation using 3-axis gyroscope data and the translation using robot wheel encoder data. The proposed system measures the position of the target relative to the robot, combining the encoder data of pan and tilt actuators and the disparity map of the stereo vision. The inevitable mismatch of the data, which occurs from the asynchrony of the multiple sensors, is prevented by the proposed system, which compensates for the communication latency and the computation time. The experimental results show that the developed system achieves excellent tracking performance in several motion scenarios, including combinations of straights and curves and climbing of slopes.

Fault detection and isolation (FDI) filters are typically synthesized for open-loop or closed-loop systems. The controller affects the FDI filter performance in the closed-loop. Performance metrics for FDI filters are proposed to assess filter performance and controller-filter interaction in the presence of uncertain dynamics in the closed-loop. The role of controller's robustness to plant uncertainty in FDI filter performance is examined. © 2011 AACC American Automatic control Council.

Geometric fault detection and isolation filters are known for having excellent fault isolation properties. However, they are generally assumed to be sensitive to model uncertainty and noise. This paper proposes a robust model matching method to incorporate model uncertainty into the design of geometric fault detection filters. Several existing methods for robust filter synthesis are described to solve the robust model matching problem. It is then shown that the robust model matching problem has an interesting self-optimality property for multiplicative input uncertainty models. Finally, a simple example is presented to study the effect of parametric uncertainty and unmodeled dynamics on the performance of a geometric filter.

Buildings worldwide account for nearly 40%of global energy *** biggest energy consumer in buildings is the heating,ventilation and air conditioning(HVAC)*** HVAC systems,chillers account for a major portion of the energy *** chillers in good conditions through early fault detection and diagnosis is thus a critical *** this paper,the fault detection and diagnosis for an air-cooled chiller with air coming from outside in variable flow rates is *** problem is difficult since the air-cooled chiller is operating under major uncertainties including the cooling load,and the air temperature and flow rate.A potential method to overcome the difficulty caused by the uncertainties is to perform fault detection and diagnosis based on a gray-box model with parameters regarded as *** method is developed and verified by us in another paper for a water-cooled chiller with the uncertainty of cooling *** verification used a Kalman filter to predict parameters of a gray-box model and statistical process control(SPC)for measuring and analyzing their variations for fault detection and *** gray-box model in the method,however,requires that the air temperature and flow rate be nearly *** introducing two new parameters and deleting data points with low air flow rate,the requirement can be satisfied and the method can then be applicable for an air-cooled *** simulation results show that the method with the revised model and some data points dropped improved the fault detection and diagnosis(FDD)performance *** can detect both sudden and gradual air-cooled chiller capacity degradation and sensor faults as well as their recoveries.

A multi-channel template extraction method is proposed for automatic EEG spike detection. The template is extracted automatically without any prior knowledge. The template extraction algorithm consists of three steps. Firstly, all possible spike events are detected. Secondly, the focus channels are identified for each event. Thirdly, the multi-channel template is extracted for each focus channel. The algorithm produces template adapted to not only individual patient, but also individual focus. The method was evaluated using the recordings from two epilepsy patients. The results suggested that template method should be of multi-channel for spike detection.

This paper proposes the novel emotion dynamic equation for emotion implementation like human's emotion by fuzziness. Almost general method use artificial approach such as neutral networks to classify emotion by using speech and face image data for human's emotion recognition. But high-dimension and large size of this data cause low-speed learning in robot system. The main idea of the proposed dynamic equation method is to dynamically express emotion by fuzzy function.
