Many electric utilities offer peak rebate programs, which allow them to call for load curtailment from participating consumers but the actual curtailment is voluntary. In this case, consumers may be tempted to “free-ride” on the compliance of other participants. Care should be taken in designing an appropriate incentive structure that is both, attractive enough to induce the desired curtailment, but not too attractive to induce excessive participation. This paper casts the consumer participation problem in DR as a game and analyzes its equilibrium to ascertain the nature of consumer response. We provide insights on the role of incentives and number of consumers called for curtailment, in inducing the desired curtailment.

The study of multiplicative noise models has a long history in control theory but is re-emerging in the context of complex networked systems and systems with learning-based control. We consider linear system identification with multiplicative noise from multiple state-input trajectory data. We propose exploratory input signals along with a least-squares algorithm to simultaneously estimate nominal system parameters and multiplicative noise covariance matrices. The asymptotic consistency of the least-squares estimator is demonstrated by analyzing first and second moment dynamics of the system. The results are illustrated by numerical simulations.

This paper formulates and studies the problem of controlling a networked SIS model using a single input in which the network structure is described by a connected undirected graph. A necessary and sufficient condition on the values of curing and infection rates for the healthy state to be exponentially stable is obtained via the analysis of signed Laplacians when the control input is the curing budget of a single agent. In the case when the healthy state is stabilizable, an explicit expression for the minimum curing budget is provided. The utility of the algorithm is demonstrated using a simulation over a network of cities in the northeastern United States.
