The convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technologies has gained substantial traction in recent years, owing to the rapid advancement of communication technologies worldwide. This research introduces a prototype model that seamlessly integrates an IoT platform with blockchain technology to ensure the integrity of data. The prototype establishes a decentralized framework for IoT devices, underpinned by a private blockchain infrastructure capable of replicating device data and validating transactions among devices through a consensus mechanism. Nevertheless, the implementation of this concept necessitates a closer examination of various considerations. One crucial aspect to address is transforming data generated by diverse IoT devices into a format compatible with the blockchain. This research takes a proactive approach to effective data management within the blockchain. Initially, we collect data from IoT devices and systematically store it in a blockchain-compatible manner. The custom blockchain and smart contract components define the data access policies for end-users. Within this model, we categorize IoT appliances responsible for different services into distinct sets of chains. These sets of chains collaboratively exchange data while adhering to a comprehensive access control *** research endeavors to harmonize IoT and blockchain technologies through a prototype that safeguards data integrity. It tackles the challenge of data conversion from various IoT devices into a blockchain-compatible format and outlines a sophisticated data management strategy. By delineating access policies and segmenting IoT appliances into specialized sets of chains, this model aims to facilitate secure and efficient data sharing among decentralized IoT devices. © 2024 IEEE.

Visualization is a powerful tool for learning and teaching complex concepts, especially in the field of computer science. However, creating effective and engaging visualizations can be challenging and time-consuming for educators and students. This paper demonstrates how the Manim Python library, a free and open-source project for creating mathematical animations, can be used to create visualizations that illustrate algorithms and data structures in an undergraduate course. The paper showcases several examples of visualizations created with the Manim library, and explains how they help the students to understand the logic, behavior, and performance of the algorithms and data structures. The paper also discusses the benefits and limitations of the Manim library, and suggests some directions for future research and development. © 2024 IEEE.

The Industry 4.0 paradigm has deeply changed classical manufacturing by introducing data-based analytics and decision-support strategies. At the state of the art, data used for manufacturing monitoring is mostly originated by sensors, that undergo a fusion step to align different data sources. However, this data is only relative to the monitored process, and it does not include the corresponding operating conditions and parameters, that are known by the Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Such information is currently either not included or labeled by hand, thus incurring in errors and limiting the amount of available labeled data. To overcome this issue and go beyond the sole data fusion of sensor data, this paper proposes an infrastructure that automatically label time series generated by sensors with information extracted from the MES, to achieve enhanced monitoring of the production process. The relevance of the proposed solution and the possibilities opened by its application are stressed with the application to a robotic arm. © 2024 IEEE.

Reinforcement Learning (RL) based methods have became popular for control and motion planning of robots, recently. Unlike sampling based motion planners, optimal policies computed by them provide feedback motion plans which eliminates the need for re-computing (optimal) trajectories when a robot starts from a different initial configuration each time. In related studies, an optimal policy (actor) and the associated value function (critic) are usually calculated preforming training in a simulation environment. During training, RL allows learning by interactions with the environment in a physically realistic manner. However, in a simulation system, it is possible to make physically unimplementable moves. Thus, instead of RL, one can make use of Dynamic Programming approaches such as Value Iteration for computing optimal policies, which does not require an exploration component and known to have better convergence properties. In addition, dimension of a value function is smaller than that of a Q-fuction, thereby lessening the severity of the curse of dimensionality. Motivated by these facts, the aim of this paper is to employ Value Iteration algorithm for motion planning of robot manipulators and elaborate its effectiveness compared to a popular RL method, Q-learning. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, grid-connected inverters have gained wide prominence, primarily attributed to the surge in distributed energy resources. To ensure the reliable operation of these inverters, it is crucial to adequately damp the resonance peak of the LCL filter at the inverter output. By achieving this, the grid-connected inverter guarantees the system's stability while minimizing the harmonic content in the current injected into the distribution grid. To address this issue, this paper proposes the utilization of digital differentiators in conjunction with optimized wideband differentiators, which are designed using the Parks-McClellan (PM) algorithm. These differentiators are applied specifically to the LCL filter capacitor voltage to dampen the resonance peak effectively. Simulation results univocally demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Operation of water distribution systems (WDSs) to reduction of water leakage can be achieved by properly operating variable speed pumps (VSPs). This practical problem can be casted into a nonlinear program (NLP) where decision variables are relative speeds of pumps while the state variables are flows and nodal heads. The formulated NLP consists of both convex and non-convex constraints, for this reason, we proposed to apply the sequential convex programming technique (SCP) for solving the NLP. The advantage of the SCP method lies in the fact that instead of solving the non-convex NLP, we solve sequential convex NLPs and, in this case, it requires less number of iterates for solution convergence than solving the problem directly by using standard NLP solvers. The effectiveness of the approach was demonstrated on two WDSs for optimal VSP scheduling problem © 2023 IEEE.

Water loss happens in all water distribution systems (WDSs). To deal with such the problems, pressure management strategy should be applied to lessen the water leakage flow. The optimal pressure management is formulated to minimize the total of excessive pressures in all demand supplying nodes. In mathematical formulation, it is a mixed-integer nonlinear program (MINLP). The existing MINLP model having been used until now for optimizing PRV locations is proven to be hard for MINLP algorithms based gradient methods and therefore is only suitable for small-scale WDSs with a limited number of demand patterns. In this paper, an efficient non-smooth constraints are proposed to model whether PRVs are installed on links for the optimal PRV localization problem. Since these constraints can be approximated by relaxed forms of complementarity inequalities, high quality MINLP solution can be achieved in a reasonable computation time. To demonstrate the efficacy of our new modeling approach, comparison of the performance of the newly formulated MINLP with the existing one for solving optimal PRV locating problems for a real WDS are taken. The results have shown that with our new MINLP model, better MINLP solution can be attained even for WDSs with multiple demand patterns. © 2023 IEEE.
