Partial shadowing of a solar array is known to decrease the array's output power. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to calculate the exact degree of decrease in energy output from the darkened region alone. In this study, the process of partial PV shadowing on multiple PV cells by using IoT wired in series and/or parallel, with and without bypass diodes, is elucidated. A layperson interested in learning how a certain shading geometry affects a PV system may benefit from this study, which is provided in clear language. Commercial 100 W panel and 10 kW PV array data are used to show the study.

Aerial-aquatic vehicles are capable to move in the two most dominant fluids, making them more promising for a wide range of applications. We propose a prototype with special designs for propulsion and thruster configuration to cope with the vast differences in the fluid properties of water and air. For propulsion, the operating range is switched for the different mediums by the dual-speed propulsion unit, providing sufficient thrust and also ensuring output efficiency. For thruster configuration, thrust vectoring is realized by the rotation of the propulsion unit around the mount arm, thus enhancing the underwater maneuverability. We address the levitation control of the single-point levitation system for maglev train by using the cascade control strategy in this paper. The levitation system is divided into two subsystems, i.e., electromagnetic system and motion system. In order to stabilize the levitation system more faster and roust, we design the sliding mode controller and fuzzy Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller, which constitute the cascade control, to control the electromagnetic system and motion system, respectively. The effectiveness and robustness of the cascade control are also verified in the numerical simulations.

In this paper, we generalize the Nesterov accelerated gradient (NAG) method to solve Riemannian optimization problems in a computationally tractable manner. The iteration complexity of our algorithm matches that of the NAG method on the Euclidean space when the objective functions are geodesically convex or geodesically strongly convex. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed algorithm is the first fully accelerated method for geodesically convex optimization problems without requiring strong convexity. Our convergence rate analysis exploits novel metric distortion lemmas as well as carefully designed potential functions. We also identify a connection with the continuous-time dynamics for modeling Riemannian acceleration in Alimisis et al. [1] to understand the accelerated convergence of our scheme through the lens of continuous-time flows. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) provides a promising way to proactively augment propagation environments for better transmission performance in wireless communications. Existing multi-RIS works mainly focus on link-level optimization with predetermined transmission paths, which cannot be directly extended to system-level management, since they neither consider the interference caused by undesired scattering of RISs, nor the performance balancing between different transmission paths. To address this, we study an innovative multi-hop multi-RIS communication system, where a base station (BS) transmits information to a set of distributed users over multi-RIS configuration space in a multi-hop manner. The signals for each user are subsequently reflected by the selected RISs via multi-reflection line-of-sight (LoS) links. To ensure that all users have fair access to the system to avoid excessive number of RISs serving one user, we aim to find the optimal beam reflecting path for each user, while judiciously determining the path scheduling strategies with the corresponding beamforming design to ensure the fairness. Due to the presence of interference caused by undesired scattering of RISs, it is highly challenging to solve the formulated multi-RIS multi-path beamforming optimization problem. To solve it, we first derive the optimal RISs’ phase shifts and the corresponding reflecting path selection for each user based on its practical deployment location. With the optimized multi-reflection paths, we obtain a feasible user grouping pattern for effective interference mitigation by constructing the maximum independent sets (MISs). Finally, we propose a joint heuristic algorithm to iteratively update the beamforming vectors and the group scheduling policies to maximize the minimum equivalent data rate of all users. Most state-of-the-art data-driven grasp sampling methods propose stable and collision-free grasps uniformly on the target object. For bin-picking, executing any of those reachable grasps is sufficient. However, for completing specific tasks, such as squeezing out liquid from a bottle, we want the grasp to be on a specific part of the object’s body while avoiding other locations, such as the cap. This work presents a generative grasp sampling network, VCGS, capable of constrained 6-Degrees of Freedom (DoF) grasp sampling. In addition, we also curate a new dataset designed to train and evaluate methods for constrained grasping. The new dataset, called CONG, consists of over 14 million training samples of synthetically rendered point clouds and grasps at random target areas on 2889 objects. VCGS is benchmarked against GraspNet, a state-of-the-art unconstrained grasp sampler, in simulation and on a real robot. The results demonstrate that VCGS achieves a 10–15% higher grasp success rate than the baseline while being 2–3 times as sample efficient. Supplementary material is available on our project website. Mathematics plays a pivotal role in science, technology and engineering. It is one of the compulsory subjects to gain admission into a higher institution in Nigeria. Considering its importance, students' performance has been a significant concern for most educators, government, parents and guardians. This study aims to predict students' performance in mathematics using the K-fold approach to support effective decision-making and policy implementation on mathematics. The primary dataset was collected from 192 senior secondary schools, and one mathematics student was randomly selected from five Senior Secondary Schools in Bwari Area Council, Abuja, and used as a sample. Students' Mathematics Achievement Test (SMAT) was used as the instrument to collect data. The data was processed and modelled using the Python Programming language. Thus, five machine learning models were trained and evaluated to overcome overfitting using four-, five---, and six-fold K-Fold cross-validation techniques. Five folds performed best for all the models except for the Support Vector Regressor, which performed best with six folds. The evaluation of the models showed that the Light Gradient Boosting Model outperformed others with a Mean Absolute Error of 12.642 and a Root Mean Square Error of 15.894. The models were significantly influenced by the students' personal study time, friends' assistance, and the parents' educational background. It is therefore recommended that academic researchers, educational authorities in Nigeria, and relevant stakeholders use and improve on this model to predict the students' scores and assist them in achieving great performance in mathematics.

This paper tackles the problem of state-feedback control for uncertain cyber-physical systems with the presence of Denial-of-Service attacks. The closed-loop stability is guaranteed through a new state-feedback packet-based strategy that utilizes past states (memory) to artificially enrich the control dynamics. The presence of an energy-bounded attacker is assumed and the closed-loop system under attack is modeled as an uncertain switched system. A less conservative stability analysis condition based on the Lyapunov theory is used as starting point for the synthesis conditions, which are formulated in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities. Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate the technique's effectiveness and perform comparisons with packet-based methods from the literature.

In this study, 74 college student volunteers were recruited as experimental participants, and 108 game 3D images of the Arena of Valor game were used as the selected samples. The digital avatar is presented to the subject through AR technology. Then, the participants were asked to choose five digital avatar that they would probably go on to use in the future metaverse. Finally, after excluding the effects of game familiarity and other socio-statistical variables, it was found that the gender of the selected Digital avatar was positively correlated with the actual participants’ gender, and it was further found that females were more gender specific and more aggregated in terms of Gender Expression than males, while males were less gender specific and more dispersed. This study found that although there was certain influence of historical culture on the selection aspect of the digital avatar, it was not significant.
