Quantum computing is progressing at a fast rate and there is a real threat that classical cryptographic methods can be compromised and therefore impact the security of blockchain networks. All of the ways used to secure blockchain like Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA), Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit (SHA256) are the characteristic of the traditional cryptographic techniques vulnerable to attack by quantum algorithms: Shor’s and Grover’s algorithms: can efficiently break asymmetric encryption and speed up brute force attacks. Because of this vulnerability, there exists a need to develop an advance quantum resilient blockchain framework to protect the decentralized ledgers from the future threats of the quantum. This research proposes Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) as a formidable architectural integration, to fortify security of blockchain. Classical encryption is replaced with PQC, QKD with secure key exchange by detecting eavesdropping, and QRNG with improving cryptographic randomness to remove the predictable key vulnerability. Only with a small loss of transaction efficiency, we increase transaction encryption accuracy, key exchange security, and resistance to quantum attacks. In this quantum enhanced blockchain design, the idea is to preserve the decentralization, transparency and security and at the same time overcome the future quantum threat. By going through rigorous analysis and comparative evaluation, we demonstrate that the approach saves blockchain networks from the emerging quantum risks to make sure that the decentralized finance, smart contracts and cross chain transactions. © (2025), (Science and Information Organization). Recent studies, based on Local Field Potentials and source activity reconstruction from electroencephalographic (EEG) signals, conducted in animals and healthy individuals reported a power increase in the frequency range of 3-5 Hz over the cortical motor areas that accompanies the preparatory phase of movement. Such low frequency oscillations (LFOs) detected in the EEG of post-stroke patients under the same condition have been reported to show lower magnitude peak. In this work we investigate the LFOs activity in a sample of healthy participants performing the grasping and finger extension tasks with both hands separately. To characterize the LFOs in terms of temporal occurrence, we introduce a single-trial alignment around the LFOs peak. We also compared the tasks to determine if there are differences related to hand dominance and/or the type of task proposed. Our results suggest that there is a jitter in the occurrence of the LFOs power peak and that the side and the type of the experimental task have no influence on the LFOs activity. © 2024 IEEE.

An algorithm for processing the continuous stream of incoming video data to detect and recognize signed expressions is proposed. The aim is to improve an assistive technology system. The method is based on the dynamic flow of expression models between a repository of inactive models and pools of active and completed models. When modeling signed expressions, so-called visemes are used. These are units smaller than words - the equivalent of phonemes known from speech recognition. Visemes are extracted by clustering descriptors of the holistic skeletons. The sequential-simultaneous nature of gestures is considered, and the modeling is carried out in four parallel channels related to the position and shape of both hands. The conditions for activation, deactivation, and recognition of the model as completed are formulated, assuming asynchronous changes in individual channels. The method is successfully tested on a demanding dataset recorded by potential users. © 2024 The Author(s).

Leveraging a number of inner capacitors/inductors, hybrid-clamped multilevel converters (MLCs) normally face great challenges among good performance (proper charge/discharge of these devices), high efficiency (maintaining low losses) and high power density (compact profile). On the other hand, these multiple-device energy-processing requirements have been addressed well in some promising multi-port converters (MPCs), and, therefore, inspire us to implement well-developed compact MPCs to facilitate the voltage/current level generation process in hybrid-clamped MLCs. Though recently, some researchers started to integrate active cells into hybrid-clamped MLCs and improve capacitor voltage control and generate extra output levels, the systematic synthesis method is still unclear and rarely discussed in the literature. To address this gap, we propose a systematic synthesis method for those hybrid clamped MLCs that can benefit from embedding well-developed MPCs. The approach can be applied for both voltage-source and current-source hybrid-clamped MLCs, covering emerging MLCs. In particular, we also derived and verified a new mixed hybrid MLC family through an emerging current-fed dual-input isolated multi-port converter. This topology features both current-source and voltage-source benefits and is ideal for future renewable generation integration. © 2023 IEEE.

In an era of increased vehicles usage, traffic accidents caused by improper driving behavior have also risen. Therefore, there is a growing need to improve road safety by promoting a correct driving style and counteracting accidents with innovative strategies. This paper presents the implementation of a decentralized system, based on blockchain, that utilizes gamification principles to incentivize safe driving. The proposed solution aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents, through gamification, and could serve as a tool for insurance companies to create customized insurance policies based on users' driving behavior. The system leverages on a reward mechanism that incentivizes the most careful drivers with tokens, creating a virtuous circle that benefits all people, drivers and non-drivers alike. The article proposes a working prototype platform and describes its implementation details, demonstrating its potential to incentivize a prudent driving style and contributing to a future where good driving is the norm, rather than the exception. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

A large number of space debris with rotational motion occupy scarce orbital resources, thus, a de-tumbling phase may be necessary prior to the capturing phase to reduce the risk of collision. A new contactless AC current de-tumbling method based on the principle of electromagnetic eddy current is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an analysis is conducted on external disturbances affecting the attitude of the debris and de-tumbling device, such as magnetic field perturbations. Compared to the electromagnetic forces acting on de-tumbling device, the influence of the geomagnetic force on detumbling device can be negligible. However, the geomagnetic torque acting on de-tumbling device cannot be ignored. Then, the advantages and disadvantages of the two AC current cases are compared and analyzed, and the method to increase the de-tumbling torque can be obtained by adjusting the frequency of the three phase AC current. Finally, the three-dimensional attitude dynamics of the uncooperative space target is established taking a spinning cylinder as the hypothetical target of de-tumbling. Simulation shows that the de-tumbling method is effective and the de-tumbling rate can be greatly improved by adjusting the frequency of the three phase AC current. © 2024 SPIE.

The evolution of online platforms over the past decades has radically transformed the way people discover music, and thanks to social media and music streaming services nowadays listeners have access to an ever-increasing amount of tracks and artists. Within these platforms, one of the goals of recommender systems is to help users discover music without making them feel overwhelmed while exploring the huge catalogues available. However, these systems have come under scrutiny from the scientific community, policy-makers, and civil society due to their potential negative societal impact, notably with regard to issues of fairness, non-discrimination, inclusion and diversity. Algorithmic auditing has emerged as a tool to analyse the problematic behaviours exhibited by recommenders, and to offer remedies that can limit their negative impact. In this position paper, we advocate for the involvement of end-users in the auditing process, which can contribute to the recognition, analysis, and mitigation of problematic behaviours which may arise while discovering music. Highlighting how recommenders, by influencing the discoverability of music, may impact listeners’ exposure to culturally diverse content, we seek to address the challenges posed by music recommender systems problematic behaviours, ultimately with the goal of fostering a more inclusive and diverse environment for music discovery within the digital landscape. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Consistent Counterfactual Explanations via Anomaly control and Data Coherence

Algorithmic recourses are popular methods to provide individuals impacted by machine learning models with recommendations on feasible actions for a more favorable prediction. Most of the previous algorithmic recourse methods work under the assumption that the predictive model does not change over time. However, in reality, models in deployment may both be periodically retrained and have their architecture changed. Therefore, it is desirable that the recourse should remain valid when such a model update occurs, unless new evidence arises. We call this feature consistency. This article presents anomaly control and data coherence (ACDC), a novel model-agnostic recourse method that generates counterfactual explanations, i.e., instance-level recourses. ACDC is inspired by anomaly detection methods and uses a one-class classifier to aid the search for valid, consistent, and feasible counterfactual explanations. The one-class classifier asserts that the generated counterfactual explanations lie on the data manifold and are not outliers of the target class. We compare ACDC against several state-of-the-art recourse methods across four datasets. Our experiments show that ACDC outperforms baselines both in generating consistent counterfactual explanations, and in generating feasible and plausible counterfactual explanations, while still having proximity measures similar to the baseline methods targeting the data manifold. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an insight into the smart metering field. The shape of the wavefront is important for the most realistic reproduction of the acoustic wave. In acoustics, the wave front (or wave surface) is defined as the totality of points in the space of the propagating medium that have the same instantaneous elongation amplitude. In the ideal case, in a homogeneous and isotropic propagation medium without other disturbances, the wave has a spherical symmetry, i.e. the shape of the wavefront is circular and at large distances from the wave source, due to dispersion, the shape of the wavefront can be considered plan. In practice, however, due to the multiple component harmonics, reflections and possible summations of the primary acoustic wave, the elongation has a non-sinusoidal shape, and the wavefront may have an irregular random shape. Moreover, if the source of the wave or bodies from which it is reflected are in motion, the shape of the wavefront may even be variable in time. The paper presents a method for determining the shape of the wave front of a non-sinusoidal periodic plane acoustic wave, resulting from the addition of several harmonic components, reflected waves, etc. It uses an array of omnidirectional capacitive microphones arranged in line, at equal distances between them. At each of the microphones, the acoustic wave is captured out of phase depending on the position of the microphone in space and the shape of the wave front. These phase shifts placed next to each other give an image of the shape of the wavefront captured by the microphone system. The method presented in this paper reproduces sounds very realistically and can be used in Active Noise Cancel systems, in open spaces, with one or more mobile noise sources. One of the benefits is the increase in hearing comfort in noisy environments. Another is to record sounds with high fidelity. © 2023 IEEE.
