Cooperative vehicle safety (CVS) systems operate based on broadcast of vehicle position and safety information to neighboring cars. The communication medium of CVS is a vehicular ad-hoc network. One of the main challenges in large scale deployment of CVS systems is the issue of scalability. To address the scalability problem, several congestion control methods have been proposed and are currently under field study. These algorithms adapt transmission rate and power based on network measures such as channel busy ratio. We examine two such algorithms and study their dynamic behavior in time and space to evaluate stability (in time) and fairness (in space) properties of these algorithms. We present stability conditions and evaluate stability and fairness of the algorithms through simulation experiments. Results show that there is a trade-off between fast convergence, temporal stability and spatial fairness. The proper ranges of parameters for achieving stability are presented for the discussed algorithms. Stability is verified for all typical highway density cases for static traffic as well as real scenarios. Fairness is shown to be naturally achieved for some algorithms and its analysis is under study in another work of us. Under the same conditions other algorithms may have problem to maintain fairness in space. We have shown that this can be resolved by a distributed measurement of CBR and is verified.

This paper presents the design of two controllers namely, Direct Fuzzy Logic controller and Fuzzy Model Reference Learning control applied to a new aerial manipulation system called "Quadrotor-Manipulator System". This system consists of 2-link manipulator connected to the bottom of a quadrotor. The dynamic model of this system is derived taking into account the effect of adding a payload to the manipulator. The performance of the proposed controllers are compared with that of the previously developed controller based on Feedback Linearization technique. All controllers are tested regarding their ability to stabilize the system and track desired trajectories under the effects of picking and placing a payload as well as changing the system operating region. Finally, the system equations of motion and the control laws are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results indicate the outstanding performance of the Fuzzy Model Reference Learning control.

Robust fault detection for a networked control system (NCS) including model uncertainty and stochastic data packet dropout is investigated, the NCS model with stochastic variable is established. Based on the observer method, a robust fault detection filter can generate a residual signal, which has good robustness to the model uncertainty, external disturbance, data packet dropout, and sensitivity to the fault. Then, the sufficient condition of asymptotically mean-square stable for the residual dynamical system is achieved. The desired robust fault detection filter is obtained, which is constructed in terms of certain linear matrix inequality (LMI). In the residual evaluation part, a threshold involved false alarm rate is presented, and the problem of estimating false alarm rate is analyzed. Finally, two numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

With the rapid development of healthcare industry, the overwhelming amounts of electronic health records (EHRs) have been well documented and shared by healthcare institutions and practitioners. It is important to take advantage of EHR data to develop an effective disease risk management model that not only predicts the progression of the disease, but also provides a candidate list of informative risk factors (RFs) in order to prevent the disease. Although EHRs are valuable sources due to the comprehensive patient information, it is difficult to pinpoint the underlying causes of the disease in order to assess the risk of a patient in developing a target disease. Because of the entangled EHR data, it is also challenging to discriminate between patients suffering from the disease and without the disease for the purpose of selecting RFs that cause the disease. To tackle these challenges, we propose a disease memory (DM) framework which can extract the integrated features by modeling the relationships among RFs and more importantly between RFs and the target disease by establishing a deep graphical model with two types of labels. The variants of DM can model characteristics for patients with disease and without disease respectively via training deep networks with different samples. Experiments on a real bone disease data set show that the proposed framework can successfully predict the bone disease and select the informative RFs that are beneficial and useful to aid clinical decision support. Most of the selected RFs are validated by medical literature and some new RFs will attract interests in medical research. The stable and promising performance on evaluation metrics confirms the effectiveness of our model.

In this paper, we present an improved analytic method to the optimal trajectory generation of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in a dynamic environment. The proposed approach explicitly incorporates both the AUV kinematic and the geometric constraints due to dynamic obstacles and the terrain while rendering the near-shortest path by a performance index related to the path length. In particular, the proposed design is based on a family of parameterized trajectories determined by three adjustable parameters, which provides a unified way to reformulate the geometric constraints and performance index into a set of parameterized constraint equations. To that end, such a constrained optimization problem boils down to optimize those adjustable parameters, which can be analytically solved in the parameter space. The proposed solution enhances the methodologies of real-time path planning for robots in 3D environment. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The security proofs of continuous-variable quantum key distribution are based on the assumptions that the eavesdropper can neither act on the local oscillator nor control Bob's beam splitter. These assumptions may be invalid in practice due to potential imperfections in the implementations of such protocols. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmitting the local oscillator in a public channel and propose a wavelength attack which allows the eavesdropper to control the intensity transmission of Bob's beam splitter by switching the wavelength of the input light. Specifically we target continuous-variable quantum key distribution systems that use the heterodyne detection protocol using either direct or reverse reconciliation. Our attack is proved to be feasible and renders all of the final keys shared between the legitimate parties insecure, even if they have monitored the intensity of the local oscillator. To prevent our attack on commercial systems, a simple wavelength filter should be randomly added before performing monitoring detection.

Quantum random-number generators (QRNGs) can offer a means to generate information-theoretically provable random numbers, in principle. In practice, unfortunately, the quantum randomness is inevitably mixed with classical randomness due to classical noises. To distill this quantum randomness, one needs to quantify the randomness of the source and apply a randomness extractor. Here, we propose a generic framework for evaluating quantum randomness of real-life QRNGs by min-entropy, and apply it to two different existing quantum random-number systems in the literature. Moreover, we provide a guideline of QRNG data postprocessing for which we implement two information-theoretically provable randomness extractors: Toeplitz-hashing extractor and Trevisan's extractor.

Compressive Sensing (CS) theory witnesses great breakthrough in signal acquisition and processing. In this paper we focus on the application of direction of arrival (DoA) and proposed a compressive sensing based direct DoA estimation framework (CS-DDoA) for wireless sensor array network. Unlike the former signal reconstruction-processing scheme, CS-DDoA utilize the spatial and spectral sparsity of target, then reformulates them into a global problems. It eliminates the error propagation between this two independent procedure and provides a enhanced DoA performance. Under this framework, array data transmission volume can be greatly reduce without distinct performance decline, which has great potential for wireless sensor array network with limited resources. At last theoretical analysis and prototype system are provided to validate this framework.

Many systems repeat the same operation over and over again on a finite duration. Repetitive processes have this characteristic where repeated sweeps, termed passes, are made over the finite pass length and when each is complete the process resets to the starting location and the next pass begins. The distinguishing feature of these processes is that the output, or pass profile, produced on each pass explicitly contributes to the dynamics of the next one and can result in oscillations that increase in amplitude from pass-to-pass. For applications, it is necessary to have a stability theory on which to base control law design for stabilization and performance. This paper gives a reflective overview of the stability theory for linear repetitive processes with particular attention to the forms of stability possible, their characterizations, and suitability for control law design. A particular feature is that the strongest form of stability for these processes can, especially for applications, lead to difficulties in control law design for stability and performance. One alternative in such cases is also considered.
