Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of proteins is a robust and reproducible technique. It is the most widely used separation tool in proteomics. Current efforts in the field are directed at development of tools for expanding the range of proteins accessible with two-dimensional gels. Proteomics was built around the two-dimensional gel. The idea that multiple proteins can be analyzed in parallel grew from two-dimensional gel maps. Proteomics researchers needed to identify interested protein spots by examining the gel. This is time consuming, labor extensive and error prone. It is desired that the computer can analyze the proteins automatically by first detecting then quantifying the protein spots in the 2-D gel images. In our previous work, we presented a new technique for segmentation of 2-D gel images using the fuzzy c-means algorithm using the notion of fuzzy relations. In this paper, we will describe the new relational fuzzy c-means algorithm (RFCM) and use it for automatic protein spots quantification. We will also use two methods to evaluate its performance: the unsupervised evaluation method and comparison with the expert spots quantification.

Fuzzy fingerprint vault is proposed to provide a solution to user privacy and fingerprint template security problems. It binds fingerprint minutiae with a private key and scrambling it with a large amount of chaff minutiae. The security of the fuzzy fingerprint vault is based on the computational infeasibility of selection of a fixed number of the fingerprint minutiae. If the fingerprint minutiae can be selected much more efficiently, however, the fuzzy fingerprint vault scheme becomes vulnerable. In this paper we propose a new attack algorithm which applies the fast polynomial reconstruction algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to both the correlation attack and the brute-force attack. The proposed attack algorithm records 100% attack rate on FVC2002 database.

Synthesis of musical instruments or human voice is a time consuming process which requires theoretical and experimental knowledge about the synthesis engine. Commonly, performers need to deal with synthesizer interfaces and a process of trial and error for creating musical sounds similar to a target sound. This drawback can be overcome by adjusting automatically the synthesizer parameters using optimization algorithms. In this paper a hybrid particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the frequency modulation (FM) matching synthesis problem. The proposed algorithm takes advantage of a shuffle process for exchanging information between particles and applies the selective passive congregation and the opposition-based learning approaches to preserve swarm diversity. Both approaches for injecting diversity are based on simple operators, preserving the easy implementation philosophy of the particle swarm optimization. The proposed hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm was validated for a three-nested FM synthesizer, which represents a 6-dimensional multimodal optimization problem with strong epistasis. Simulation results revealed that the proposed algorithm presented promising results in terms of quality of solutions.

This paper presents a real-time force control strategy for a prosthetic hand. The proposed design is capable of decoding the prerecorded surface electromyographic (sEMG) signal as well as the sensory force feedback from the sensors to control the force of the prosthetic hand prototype. The input sEMG signal is preprocessed using a Half-Gaussian filter with optimized parameters and Chebyshev type II filter. Entropy of the sEMG signal is used as a threshold value to establish the correlation between the sEMG signal and the skeletal muscle force. A simple proportional integral controller along with a two-stage embedded design is used for the force control of the prosthetic hand. The results are transmitted to the computer through the universal asynchronous receiver/ transmitter (UART)interface of the proposed embedded design. The results demonstrate good performance in controlling the force of the prosthetic hand.

Real objects in general are fractional-order systems, although in some types of systems the order is very close to an integer order. Since major advances have been made in this area in the last decades, it is possible to consider also the real order of the dynamical systems by using fractional order of the differential equations. Such models are more adequate for the description of dynamical systems than integer-order models. Appropriate methods for the numerical calculations of fractional-order differential equations are needed. In this contribution we will compare some previous methods used for simulation purposes with the methods based on approximate formulas for numerical inversion of Laplace transforms. The verification and comparison will be based mainly on the accuracy and computing time which is very important e.g. in the tasks of simulation or identification using optimization methods where too many calculations are needed and faster methods can save time very significantly.

One of the important issues in the ambient network is to aware complex contexts in various environments. This complex context is determined by a surrounding environments or variety of situations. Office is one of the most appropriate environments to apply this ambient network service. In this application, the main product would be central storage controller (CSC), which is able to receive command from employee in the office. The CSC receives information from devices of the network and this information is saved at the CSC. The ambient network can support the CSC to process this command very efficiently. In this paper, we applied ambient network concept to office environment and show our automatic intelligence application.
