This paper gives new results on the design and experimental evaluation of an Iterative Learning control (ILC) law in a repetitive process setting. The experimental results given are from a gantry robot facility that has been extensively used in the benchmarking of linear model based ILC designs. An example is also given to demonstrate that this new design offers much superior performance in comparison to some previous designs based on the Roesser model for 2D linear systems.

In this paper the relationship between one-sided concept lattices and their restricted version is described. One-sided concept lattices are based on the Galois connections within Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) framework, which allows to analyse object-attribute models with different structures for truth values of attributes. We present the approach for generation of one-sided concept lattices from restricted formal context, which is obtained from given one by omitting some subset of the set of all attributes. The resulted algorithm for such restricted problem is described, together with the discussion on its correctness.

In this paper we provide experimental comparison on time complexity of algorithm for creation of Generalized One-Sided Concept Lattices according to the sparseness of the input data table between standard and sparse-based implementation. It is an incremental algorithm related to FCA (Formal Concept Analysis), which is ready to be used with various attribute types and to create so-called generalized one-sided concept lattice. While these algorithms are generally exponential, in practice the complexity can be considerably reduced, e.g., for sparse input data tables. We describe sparse-based implementation of two crucial operations in our algorithm and provide experiments with different sparse data tables, where time complexity is studied for comparison of standard and sparse-based implementation of the algorithm.

In this paper we describe use of cloud computing platform for support of distributed creation of conceptual models based on the FCA (Formal Concept Analysis) framework. FCA is one of the approaches which can be applied in process of conceptual data analysis. Extension of classical FCA (binary table data) is (one-sided) fuzzy version that works with different types of lattice-based attributes (binary, ordinal, interval-based, etc.) in the object-attribute table. This extension, so-called generalized one-sided concept lattices, provide possibility for researcher or data analyzer to use fuzzy FCA for object-attribute tables without the need for specific unified pre-processing, what is usually expected in practical data mining or online analytical tools. Computational complexity of creation of concept lattices from large contexts (data tables) is considerable, also interpretability of huge concept lattices is problematic. Therefore, we will also propose a solution for creation of simple hierarchy of smaller FCA models. Starting data table is decomposed into smaller sets of objects and then one concept lattice is built for every subset using generalized one-sided concept lattice. Such small FCA-based models are better for interpretability, and also can be combined into one hierarchy of models using simple hierarchical clustering based on the descriptions of particular models (as weighted vectors of attributes), which can be searched in analytical tool by data analyst. Cloud infrastructure is then used for increase of computational effectiveness, because particular models are built in parallel/distributed way. This cloud module can be a part of more complex data analytical system, which is also presented at the end of the paper.

An algorithmic framework is developed for automatic deployment of car-like robots based on Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) formulae over a set of regions of interest in the environment. The environment and the regions of interest are a priori known, and the robot has non-negligible size and restricted steering capabilities. The approach relies on constructing a probabilistic finite-state abstraction of the car-like robot and on finding a trajectory (run) in this abstraction such that the probability of satisfying the LTL formula is maximized. The feasibility of our approach is supported by simulations under Matlab environment. © 2011 Faculty of Auto control.

Direct adaptive regulation of unknown nonlinear systems with analysis of the model order problem

A new method for the direct adaptive regulation of unknown nonlinear dynamical systems is proposed in this paper,paying special attention to the analysis of the model order *** method uses a neurofuzzy (NF) modeling of the unknown system,which combines fuzzy systems (FSs) with high order neural networks (HONNs).We propose the approximation of the unknown system by a special form of an NF-dynamical system (NFDS),which,however,may assume a smaller number of states than the original unknown *** omission of states,referred to as a model order problem,is modeled by introducing a disturbance term in the approximating *** development is combined with a sensitivity analysis of the closed loop and provides a comprehensive and rigorous analysis of the stability *** adaptive modification method,termed ‘parameter hopping’,is incorporated into the weight estimation algorithm so that the existence and boundedness of the control signal are always *** applicability and potency of the method are tested by simulations on well known benchmarks such as ‘DC motor’ and ‘Lorenz system’,where it is shown that it performs quite well under a reduced model order ***,the proposed NF approach is shown to outperform simple recurrent high order neural networks (RHONNs).

The low radiation conditions and the predominantly phase-object image formation of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) result in extremely high noise levels and low contrast in the recorded micrographs. The process of single particle or tomographic 3D reconstruction does not completely eliminate this noise and is even capable of introducing new sources of noise during alignment or when correcting for instrument parameters. The recently developed Digital Paths Supervised Variance (DPSV) denoising filter uses local variance information to control regional noise in a robust and adaptive manner. The performance of the DPSV filter was evaluated in this review qualitatively and quantitatively using simulated and experimental data from cryo-EM and tomography in two and three dimensions. We also assessed the benefit of filtering experimental reconstructions for visualization purposes and for enhancing the accuracy of feature detection. The DPSV filter eliminates high-frequency noise artifacts (density gaps), which would normally preclude the accurate segmentation of tomography reconstructions or the detection of alpha-helices in single-particle reconstructions. This collaborative software development project was carried out entirely by virtual interactions among the authors using publicly available development and file sharing tools. © 2012 International Union for Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB) and Springer.

The main idea of this project is to simulate the thermal construction responses in dependence on changing boundary conditions. In order to predict environmental temperature precisely a model of one room has been developed and implemented in COMSOL Multiphysics. A finite element model was developed in 3D coordinates in order to achieve illustration of an air and an energy movement and to simulate the transient process in the walls in [7]. Notwithstanding, this model was not accurate enough for application in building conditions. Main goal of this paper is in updating current model to get results with sufficient accuracy. Temperature course of the model is analyzed and compared to the experimentally measured temperature data. © 2011 IEEE.

A dual variational Bayes filter for states and parameter estimation in IDE based spatiotemporal dynamic systems is developed. Recursive updates are obtained from a restricted variational Bayesian perspective, using a dual filtering formulation where parameters are allowed to evolve in time. The added benefit over conventional point estimate filters is that parameter distributions are readily available for one to take advantage of in the design of complex experiments or in adaptive control scenarios. The dual filter is evaluated in a simulation study and seen to perform favorably when compared to a standard SMC approach. © 2011 IFAC.

This paper is devoted to the modeling problem of hypersonic vehicle with significant couplings. An integrated approach is developed to analytically model the dynamics of hypersonic vehicle, in which the effects of variable mass, spherical rotating earth, and couplings among the sub-models are considered. Furthermore, a preliminary analysis is conducted using the general data of a hypersonic vehicle. The simulation results show that the maximum of the Coriolis force can reach values up to 7.02% of the vehicle weight, and that the thermal load determined by the nonuniform aerodynamic heating and the properties of the structure has a significant influence on the elastic deformation.
