Inverse halftoning is to reconstruct continuous-tone images from binary ones composed of white and black pixels. This paper presents a simple and useful inverse halftoning method, which is a two-step algorithm. The first step is to generate several grayscale images from the original halftone image and lowpass filters. The next step is to reconstruct a continuous-tone image from the multiple grayscale images by using the super-resolution image reconstruction. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by several experiments.

The paper deals with comparison of different continuous-time strategies applied to control of singleinput single-output (SISO) periodically time-varying systems with delay. The first method is based on the fractional representation in the ring of proper and stable rational functions (RPS), general solutions of Diophantine equations and conditions of divisibility while the other two methods use the modified Smith predictor structures in combination with standard forms for minimum of integral squared time error (ISTE) or design by Coefficient Diagram Method (CDM). The capabilities of all techniques are demonstrated on simulative examples for first and second order periodically time-varying time-delay systems. Moreover, various modifications and improvements, such as control structure with more degrees of freedom or utilization of disturbance controller are also included in the research.

The paper developed a block-wise approach for ICA algorithms which can improve the computational efficiency of ICA without the degradation of performance for the separation of biomedical signals. Source signals including electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG) and 60-Hz sinusoid are linearly mixed for experimental tests. The mean-square errors (MSE) between the original sources and the separated signals are calculated for the evaluation of separation performance. These results demonstrated that the proposed block-wise approach can achieve the desired separation performance of signals in a more efficient way.

wxShapeFramework is new cross-platform software library written in C++ programming language which is suitable for creation of software applications manipulating diagrams, images and other graphical objects. Thanks to the underlying technologies such as wxWidgets toolkit and its XML-based persistent data container add-on called wxXmlSerializer it is an ideal solution for rapid and easy cross-platform visualisation software development. The paper reveals how the wxSF allows user to easily create applications able to interactively handle various scenes consisting of pre-defined or user-defined graphic objects (both vector- and bitmap-based) or GUI controls, store them to XML files, export them to bitmap images, print them etc. Moreover, thanks to applied software licence the library can be used for both open-source and commercialprojects on all main target platforms including MS Windows, MacOS and Linux.

This paper deals with design of continuous-time robustly stabilizing Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers for interval systems using the combination of Kronecker summation method, sixteen plant theorem and an algebraic approach to controller tuning. An important issue in the analysis of two-dimensional electrophoresis images is the detection and quantification of protein spots. The main challenges in the segmentation of 2DGE images are to separate overlapping protein spots correctly and to find the abundance of weak protein spots. To enable comparison of protein patterns between different samples, it is necessary to match the patterns so that homologous spots are identified. In this paper we describe a new robust technique to segment and model the different spots present in the gels. The watershed segmentation algorithm is modified to handle the problem of over segmentation by initially partitioning the image to mosaic regions using the composition of fuzzy relations. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm to overcome the over segmentation problem associated with the available algorithms.

There is an increasing need to support telemedicine with advanced technology. Currently, long distance telesurgical systems are only used on Earth for research purposes, but the military and the space agencies are interested in the spatial extension of effective surgical treatment through remote teleoperation. One of the major limitations of future systems is the communication lag time. In the case of the envisioned human exploratory space missions to Moon and Mars, the signal latency can be several seconds or even minutes. This paper deals with theoretical and practical aspects of the problem. Modeling approaches are discussed, proposing simplified human and machine representations to accommodate long distance telesurgical applications. Further, classical control methods are presented based on cascade control, focusing on teleoperation. A suitable controller can be designed with an empirical controller of the inner loop, based on Kessler methods, while the outer loop can be based on predictive control.
