This paper investigates signal and system representations in special rational orthogonal bases of the Hardy space H 2 . These bases are derived from the Blaschke-group associated to the hyperbolic group SH(n) of matrices. Using the concept of the unitary group representations over H 2 , and the voice-transform, specific hyperbolic wavelet constructions - Blaschke-wavelets and the associated Blaschke-Fourier transform are constructed. State space representations of systems over hyperbolic groups are discussed, too, with the purpose to explore the perspectives of elaborating a unified system theory upon this conceptual base.

Syllogistic reasoning is a form of deductive reasoning in which a logical conclusion is drawn from premises. Forward-chaining syllogistic reasoning refers to response pattern of figure 1 syllogism (M-P, S-M, S-P with response chain of S-M-P) and backward-chaining syllogistic reasoning refers to response pattern of figure 4 syllogism (P-M, S-M, S-P with response chain of P-M-S). Previous psychological studies show that forward-chaining is significantly higher accuracy and less response time, and backward-chaining is significantly lower accuracy and more response time. However, little is known about the underlying neural mechanisms. We carried out a study using event-related fMRI to clarify their neural substrates. Conjunction analysis showed common areas of activations were the bilateral caudate, the left ventral lateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC), the left superior parietal lobule, and the right lingual gyrus. Direct comparisons showed distinct area of activation for forward-chaining in contrast to backward-chaining involved more activation in the left inferior parietal lobule, whereas backward-chaining in contrast to forward-chaining recruited the left dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), the left medial frontal gyrus, and the right cerebellum. The results suggested that forward-chaining and backward-chaining syllogistic reasoning engaged distinct neural substrates based on common brain areas.

Abstract On-off control is still widely used in the industry, especially for discontinuous actuators, e.g. compressors, steam turbines or furnace burners. Exact set-point control is not possible by an on-off controller. Lower and upper limits are defined for the control signal which should not be violated. For this predictive gap control quadratic and horizon dependent cost functions are defined. Traditional numerical optimization fails with longer prediction horizons, but a genetic algorithm can be effectively applied even for long horizons.

Paper deals with design and implementation of portable data acquisition unit based on 8-bit microcontroller Freescale 68HC908GP32 in process control and supervision applications. Its hardware design is adopted to fulfill high reliability and immunity against industrial environment, high precision and compact dimensions. Communication with supervision system is performed via standard RS232 interface utilizing universal ASCII-based communication protocol which is supported by number of software environments. In order to improve development of new software applications with this device a support program libraries for Visual C++, control Web and Matlab/Simulink was created. Correct function of the data acquisition device and support software libraries were tested on educational model of heating plant with time delay in Matlab 6.5 and control Web environments.

Existing information systems often lack support to crisis and emergency situations. In such scenarios, the involved actors often engage in ad hoc collaborations necessary to understand and respond to the emerging events. We propose a collaboration model and a prototype aiming to improve the consistency and effectiveness of emergent work activities. Our approach defends the requirement to construct shared situation awareness (SA). To support SA, we developed a collaborative artifact named situation matrixes (SM), which relates different situation dimensions (SD) of the crisis/emergency scenario. A method was also developed to construct and evaluate concrete SM and SD. This method was applied in two organizations' IT service desk teams, which often have to deal with emergency situations. The target organizations found our approach very relevant in organizing their response to emergencies.
