In autonomous distributed robot systems many robots cooperate together to carry out many difficult tasks that single robots can not realize. But, in order to cooperate together the robots should communicate with each other. Therefore, the inter-communication among robots is very important problem to be solved. We propose an adaptive reservation-time division multiple access (AR-TDMA) medium access control protocol which can realize a real-time communication among robots in a heterogeneous environment by using a reservation mechanism. Also, by using an adaptive time slot allocation method, the protocol has a flexible behavior and can deal with the changes of number of robots. Furthermore, the proposed protocol can reduce the packet collision probability.

This contribution describes universal embedded system suitable for small motion robots. Most of the robots in this category are equipped at least 2 drive wheels with feedback for robot moving, RF link for the communication with host computer or between another ones, microcontroller for robot control, single power supply and interfaces for interconnection with sensors or actuators. Plenty of design of this electronic exist but usually are developed only for one specific application. Our system was designed for general use. It provides good performances of robots suitable also for application in robot soccer game and plenty of applications as testing AI, multiagents system as well as education purpose.

The real circuit model, such as a partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC), can be represented as a delay differential equation (DDE) of neutral type. The study of asymptotic stability of this kind of systems is of much importance due to the fragility of DDE solvers. Based on a descriptor system approach, new delay-dependent stability results are derived by introducing some free-weighting matrices. As an application of the results, the delay-dependent stability problem of a PEEC model is investigated. The comparison of the results with the existing ones is finally given by using the PEEC model and another numerical example.

Spread-spectrum watermarking scheme adds random noise w into the host signal x to generate watermarked signal s. Blind detector computes inner product or its variants (i.e., correlation) and decides if the host signal contains embedded bits or not by its sign of the inner product. Such detection method may not be sufficiently robust in some applications due to high false-positive or false-negative rate. This paper introduces a method to reduce detection errors considerably by excluding outliers in the signal. First, this paper identifies the usefulness of the outliers. Second, this paper identifies the problem of outliers. Due to the vague definition of the outlier, it was impossible to draw unique criterion for outlier. Thus, third, stable and robust definition of outlier is adopted. Informed watermarking scheme for spread-spectrum is exploited to reduce false-positive and false-negative errors. Such detectors can also enhance detection rate in other watermarking schemes. This scheme can enhance robustness of image watermarking and audio watermarking as well.

Fault detection and isolation is a challenging task in the control of large scale complex systems. In this work we proceed to the fault diagnosis of an electric power transmission system based on a fault diagnosis of hybrid systems method presented in our previous work. Power systems often exhibit complex behavior in response to large disturbances. Such behavior is characterized by interactions between continuous dynamics and discrete events. Components such as loads drive the continuous dynamics, while other components such as protection devices exhibit event-driven discrete dynamics. Therefore, power systems constitute an important case of hybrid systems for fault detection.

Dynamic optimization by multiple shooting requires integration and sensitivity calculation of the model ODEs as well as the cost function integral. A new semi-implicit Runge-Kutta algorithm for numerical sensitivity calculation of stiff systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is presented. The algorithm calculates sensitivities with respect to problem parameters and initial conditions, exploiting the special structure of the sensitivity equations. The new algorithm is compared to an extrapolation method and to the more established BDF based approaches. Several advantages of the new approach are demonstrated, especially when frequent discontinuities are present. These advantages renders the new algorithm particularly suitable for dynamic optimization and nonlinear model predictive control.

This work presents the results of a research related to medical image subtraction algorithms. The selected area is of direct digital X-ray angiography, where subtraction algorithms are the basis of most acquisition and reviewing protocols. The goal of this research is to analyze the currently existing image subtraction algorithms and to propose a new approach based on the experienced limitations, respectively to develop a new imaging technique that allows both contrast agent and radiation dose reduction. The enhancement of the subtraction algorithms is targeted by two means: a) noise reduction on image frames, b) identification of contrast agent injected regions. Both aspects will be studied based on the analysis of the spatio-temporal signal variation that image pixel intensities represent, therefore the resulting algorithm can not be used real time during image acquisition, but as a post processing technique during review. The temporal variation of pixel intensities was then analyzed and a patter check was followed to identify pixels being part of a contrast agent injected region. This information was used to highlight regions of interest and to increase the contrast in poorly injected areas.
