Seamless Graph Task Scheduling over Dynamic Vehicular Clouds: A Hybrid Methodology for Integrating Pilot and Instantaneous Decisions

Vehicular clouds (VCs) play a crucial role in the Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) ecosystem by securing essential computing resources for a wide range of tasks. This paPertackles the intricacies of resource provisioning in dynamic VCs for computation-intensive tasks, represented by undirected graphs for parallel processing over multiple vehicles. We model the dynamics of VCs by considering multiple factors, including varying communication quality among vehicles, fluctuating computing capabilities of vehicles, uncertain contact duration among vehicles, and dynamic data exchange costs between vehicles. Our primary goal is to obtain feasible assignments between task components and nearby vehicles, called templates, in a timely manner with minimized task completion time and data exchange overhead. To achieve this, we propose a hybrid graph task scheduling (P-HTS) methodology that combines offline and online decision-making modes. For the offline mode, we introduce an approach called risk-aware pilot isomorphic subgraph searching (RA-PilotISS), which predicts feasible solutions for task scheduling in advance based on historical information. Then, for the online mode, we propose time-efficient instantaneous isomorphic subgraph searching (TE-InstaISS), serving as a backup approach for quickly identifying new optimal scheduling template when the one identified by RA-PilotISS becomes invalid due to changing conditions. Through comprehensive experiments, we demonstrate the superiority of our proposed hybrid mechanism compared to state-of-the-art methods in terms of various evaluative metrics, e.g., time efficiency such as the delay caused by seeking for possible templates and task completion time, as well as cost function, upon considering different VC scales and graph task topologies. © 2025 IEEE.

The influence of coordinated behavior on toxicity

In the intricate landscape of social media, genuine content dissemination may be altered by a number of threats. Coordinated Behavior (CB), defined as orchestrated efforts by entities to deceive or mislead users about their identity and intentions, emerges as a tactic to exploit or manipulate online discourse. This study delves into the relationship between CB and toxic conversation on X (formerly known as Twitter). Using a dataset of 11 million tweets from 1 million users preceding the 2019 UK general election, we show that users displaying CB typically disseminate less harmful content, irrespective of political affiliation. However, distinct toxicity patterns emerge among different coordinated cohorts. Compared to their non-CB counterparts, CB participants show marginally higher toxicity levels only when considering their original posts. We further show the effects of CB-driven toxic content on non-CB users, gauging its impact based on political leanings. Detecting anomalies in satellite telemetry data is pivotal in ensuring its safe operations. Although there exist various data-driven techniques for the task of determining abnormal parts of the signal, they are virtually never validated over real telemetries. Analyzing such data is challenging due to its intrinsic characteristics, as telemetry may be noisy and affected by incorrect acquisition, resulting in missing parts of the signal. In this paper, we tackle this issue and propose a machine learning approach for detecting anomalies in single-channel satellite telemetry. To validate its capabilities in a practical scenario, we build a dataset capturing the nominal and anomalous telemetry data captured on board OPS-SAT—a nanosatellite launched and operated by the European Space Agency. Our extensive experimental study showed that the proposed algorithm offers high-quality anomaly detection in real-life satellite telemetry, reaching 98.4% accuracy over the unseen test set. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Modeling the Correlation of Human Vertebral Body Volumes*

Anatomical parameters of the human body strongly correlate with each other. Modelling these dependencies enables the creation of a realistic anatomical human body model that can be parameterized. Such a model can be used for several diagnostic processes to identify abnormalities or even give guidance in surgical interventions. This paper proposes a probabilistic model describing the dependencies between the vertebral body volumes of humans from the Caucasian human race. As demonstrated, the proposed model can accurately describe the relationship between the vertebral body volumes and is used for the prediction of an unknown vertebral volume based on a known one. The probabilistic model is created by using the CT segmentation of 37 patients.

This paper discusses the advantages of constructing a vibration parameters measurement system of an aircraft wing using mems IMUs. In addition to mems IMUs, the system makes use of displacement sensor and navigation system as secondary measurements, along with the optimal Kalman filter estimation. The basic principles of system operation are described. The main algorithms of the system and its errors mathematical model are presented. The results of simulation are presented, demonstrating the expected measurement accuracy of the system as a whole. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Intelligent performance creativity is a new research direction of the intersection of technology and art. At present, the cutting-edge technologies such as computer simulation, emotional computing and machine learning have been applied to the evaluation and enhancement of intelligent performance creativity. The application of these technologies has greatly increased the diversity of performance forms and the complexity of performance content. For the traditional stage performance, due to the lack of timely feedback from the audience, it is difficult for the director to enhance the creativity effec-tively. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes concentration level enhancement method (CLEM). The CLEM extracts and analyzes the physiological and emotional characteristics of the audience by collecting the multimodal physiological signal data of the audience. Through the analysis of the features, the concentration information of the audience is obtained and the concentration level (CL) is defined. Based on the physiological and emotional induction mechanism, a performance creativity enhancement strategy is proposed, which enhances the performance creativity in two aspects: " Visual-based" and " Content-based". Through the concentration level enhancement method, compare the audience’s performance attention changes before and after the performance creativity enhancement, select the effective strategies to enhance the performance creativity, and provide the director with quantifiable performance creativity enhancement feedback results. The experimental results show that the CLEM proposed in this paper can effectively induce significant changes in the audience’s emotion, and the selected creative enhancement strategy can significantly improve the audience’s concentration and achieve the purpose of enhancing the creativity of the performance. © 2023, Journal of Network Intelligence.

In this paper, we develop a novel time synchronization algorithm for an ensemble of atomic clocks containing a mixture of second order and third order atomic clocks. To design the feedback control, we consider the Kalman filter to estimate the states of the observable subsystem derived from the observable canonical decomposition of the atomic clock ensemble. We prove that, under certain conditions, the time deviation of each clock from the ideal clock behaviour follows the dynamics of the first state of the unobservable subsystem, which is regarded as the synchronization destination of the clocks. In the algorithm, we can adjust the synchronization destination by choosing the basis of the observable subspace in a special manner for the observable canonical decomposition. An example is included to illustrate the efficacy of the algorithm. It has been revealed numerically that altering the control interval appropriately can improve the frequency stability of the clocks. © 2024 IEEE.

Towards Responsible AI Music: an Investigation of Trustworthy Features for Creative Systems

Generative AI is radically changing the creative arts, by fundamentally transforming the way we create and interact with cultural artefacts. While offering unprecedented opportunities for artistic expression and commercialisation, this technology also raises ethical, societal, and legal concerns. Key among these are the potential displacement of human creativity, copyright infringement stemming from vast training datasets, and the lack of transparency, explainability, and fairness mechanisms. As generative systems become pervasive in this domain, responsible design is crucial. Whilst previous work has tackled isolated aspects of generative systems (e.g., transparency, evaluation, data), we take a comprehensive approach, grounding these efforts within the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence produced by the High-Level Expert Group on AI appointed by the European Commission – a framework for designing responsible AI systems across seven macro requirements. Focusing on generative music AI, we illustrate how these requirements can be contextualised for the field, addressing trustworthiness across multiple dimensions and integrating insights from the existing literature. We further propose a roadmap for operationalising these contextualised requirements, emphasising interdisciplinary collaboration and stakeholder engagement. Our work provides a foundation for designing and evaluating responsible music generation systems, calling for collaboration among AI experts, ethicists, legal scholars, and artists.
