Recursive Identification of Fractional Time-Delay Systems Using Discrete-Time Model

In this paper, a recursive identification method for fractional time-delay systems using a discrete-time model is proposed. The fractional time delay is a non-integer multiple of the sampling period for the discrete-time system. We describe the discretization of the fractional time-delay systems and propose a new formulation for system identification. Single-input, single-output systems are transformed to two-input, single-output systems: one transfer function represents system dynamics and the other represents the influence of the time delay. Then, we propose a new recursive identification method for fractional time-delay systems. Finally we verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through numerical examples. © 2018

Triple negative breast cancer(TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer that currently lacks effective biomarkers and therapeutic targets required to investigate the diagnosis and treatment of TNBC. Here we performed a comprehensive differential analysis of 165 TNBC samples by integrating RNA-seq data of breast tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues from both our cohort and The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA). Pathway enrichment analysis was conducted to evaluate the biological function of TNBC-specific expressed genes. Further multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression was performed to evaluate the effect of these genes on TNBC prognosis. In this report, we identified a total of 148 TNBC-specific expressed genes that were primarily enriched in mammary gland morphogenesis and hormone levels related pathways, suggesting that mammary gland morphogenesis might play a unique role in TNBC patients differing from other breast cancer types. Further survival analysis revealed that nine genes(FSIP1, ADCY5, FSD1, HMSD, CMTM5, AFF3, CYP2 A7, ATP1 A2,and C11 orf86) were significantly associated with the prognosis of TNBC patients, while three of them(ADCY5,CYP2 A7, and ATP1 A2) were involved in the hormone-related pathways. These findings indicated the vital role of the hormone-related genes in TNBC tumorigenesis and may provide some independent prognostic markers as well as novel therapeutic targets for TNBC.

Style transfer-based image synthesis as an efficient regularization technique in deep learning

These days deep learning is the fastest-growing area in the field of Machine Learning. Convolutional Neural Networks are currently the main tool used for the image analysis and classification purposes. Although great achievements and perspectives, deep neural networks and accompanying learning algorithms have some relevant challenges to tackle. In this paper, we have focused on the most frequently mentioned problem in the field of machine learning, that is relatively poor generalization abilities. Partial remedies for this are regularization techniques e.g. dropout, batch normalization, weight decay, transfer learning, early stopping and data augmentation. In this paper we have focused on data augmentation. We propose to use a method based on a neural style transfer, which allows to generate new unlabeled images of high perceptual quality that combine the content of a base image with the appearance of another one. In a proposed approach, the newly created images are described with pseudo-labels, and then used as a training dataset. Real, labeled images are divided into the validation and test set. We validated proposed method on a challenging skin lesion classification case study. Four representative neural architectures are examined. A novel microbial consortium ZY1 capable of degrading tricresyl phosphates (TCPs) was isolated, it could quickly degrade 100% of 1 mg/L tri-o-cresyl phosphate (ToCP), tri-p-cresyl phosphate (TpCP) and tri-m-cresyl phosphate (TmCP) within 36, 24 and 12 h separately and intracellular enzymes occupied the dominated role in TCPs biodegradation. Additionally, triphenyl phosphate (TPHP), 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP), bisphenol-A bis (diphenyl phosphate) (BDP), tris (2-chloroethy) phosphate (TCEP) and tris (1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TCPP) could also be degraded by ZY1 and the aryl-phosphates was easier to be degraded. The TCPs reduction observed in freshwater and seawater indicated that high salinity might weak the degradability of ZY1. The detected degradation products suggested that TCPs was mainly metabolized though the hydrolysis and hydroxylation. Sequencing analysis presented that the degradation of TCPs relied on the cooperation between sphingobacterium, variovorax and flavobacterium. The cytochrome P450/NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase and phosphatase were speculated might involve in TCPs degradation. Finally, toxicity evaluation study found that the toxicity of the diesters products was lower than their parent compound based on the generation of the intracellular reactive oxygen (ROS) and the apoptosis rate of A549 cell. Taken together, this research provided a new insight for the bioremediation of TCPs in actual environment. © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Starch retrogradation is a primary contributor to the staling of bread. The impact of the surfactant glyceryl monostearate (GMS) on the structure and retrogradation characteristics of wheat starch gels was explored during storage at 4 °C for 2 h and 5 d. In this research, the incorporation of GMS (0.14 %, W/W, based on flour weight) significantly reduced the crumb firmness (P 1047/1022 detected by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy indicated that GMS could reduce the degree of retrogradation. Solid-state 13C NMR analysis showed a characteristic resonance peak at 31.7 ppm for the GMS-starch complex. This study indicates that GMS holds great application potential in retarding starch retrogradation. © 2024

In this paper, an event-triggered, data-rate constrained observer for discrete-time linear systems with perturbations is presented. The system is connected to a remote location by a communication channel which can only transmit limited numbers of bits per time interval. The system is subject to perturbations in its state as well as errors in the output measurement. The objective is to reconstruct estimates of the state at the remote location, by sending messages over the communication channel. A new type of data-rate constrained observer which can be more efficient in terms of communication rate is presented. Relation between an admissible communication rate and the system parameters is evaluated. The observer’s efficiency is illustrated by simulations.

Multi-variant scheduling of critical time-triggered communication in incremental development process: Application to FlexRay

The portfolio of models offered by car manufacturing groups often includes many variants (i.e., different car models and their versions). With such diversity in car models, variant management becomes a formidable task. Thus, there is an effort to keep the variants as close as possible. This simple requirement forms a big challenge in the area of communication protocols. When several vehicle variants use the same signal, it is often required to simultaneously schedule such a signal in all vehicle variants. Furthermore, new vehicle variants are designed incrementally in such a way as to maintain backward compatibility with the older vehicles. Backward compatibility of time-triggered schedules reduces expenses relating to testing and fine-tuning of the components that interact with physical environment (e.g., electromagnetic compatibility issues). As this requirement provides for using the same platform, it simplifies signal traceability and diagnostics, across different vehicle variants, besides simplifying the reuse of components and tools. This paper proposes an efficient and robust heuristic algorithm, which creates the schedules for internal communication of new vehicle variants. The algorithm provides for variant management by ensuring compatibility among the new variants, besides preserving backward compatibility with the preceding vehicle variants. The proposed method can save about 20% of the bandwidth with respect to the schedule common to all variants. Based on the results of the proposed algorithm, the impact of maintaining compatibility among new variants and of preserving backward compatibility with the preceding variants on the scheduling procedure is examined and discussed. Thanks to the execution time of the algorithm, which is less than one second, the network parameters like the frame length and cycle duration are explored to find their best choice concerning the schedule feasibility. In the context of control and estimation under information constraints, restoration entropy measures the minimal required data rate above which a system can be regularly observed. The observer here is assumed to receive its state information through a communication channel of a finite bit-rate capacity. In this paper, we provide a new characterization of restoration entropy which does not require to compute any temporal limit, i.e., an asymptotic quantity. Our new formula is based on the idea of finding an adapted Riemannian metric on the state space that allows to ‘see’ the decisive quantity that determines the restoration entropy - a certain type of Lyapunov exponent - in only one step of time.
