Background Diarrhoeal diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are a leading cause of death in children younger than 5 years. Comprehensive global estimates of the diarrhoeal disease burden for specific age groups of children younger than 5 years are scarce, and the burden in children older than 5 years and in adults is also understudied. We used results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to assess the burden of, and trends in, diarrhoeal diseases overall and attributable to 13 pathogens, as well as the contributions of associated risk factors, in children and adults in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. Methods We used the Cause of Death Ensemble modelling strategy to analyse vital registration data, verbal autopsy data, mortality surveillance data, and minimally invasive tissue sampling data. We used DisMod-MR (version 2.1), a Bayesian meta-regression tool, to analyse incidence and prevalence data identified via systematic reviews, population-based surveys, and claims and inpatient data. We calculated diarrhoeal disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) as the sum of years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs) for each location, year, and age-sex group. For aetiology estimation, we used a counterfactual approach to quantify population-attributable fractions (PAFs). Additionally, we estimated the diarrhoeal disease burden attributable to the independent effects of risk factors using the comparative risk assessment framework. Findings In 2021, diarrhoeal diseases caused an estimated 1.17 million (95% uncertainty interval 0.793-1.62) deaths globally, representing a 60.3% (50.6-69.0) decrease since 1990 (2.93 million [2.31-3.73] deaths). The most pronounced decline was in children younger than 5 years, with a 79.2% (72.4-84.6) decrease in diarrhoeal deaths. In this work, a simple 3D chaotic circuit is experimentally studied. The proposed circuit is described by a 3-D dynamical system with two nonlinear terms, which are the same hyperbolic sine functions implemented with simple Bi-color LEDs. The proposed chaotic circuit presents interesting chaos related phenomena, like period doubling route to chaos, coexisting attractors and antimonotonicity.

A spectral small-gain condition for input-to-state stability of infinite networks

This paper presents a tight small-gain theorem for networks composed of infinitely many finite-dimensional subsystems. Assuming that each subsystem is exponentially input-to-state stable, we show that if the gain operator, collecting all the information about the internal Lyapunov gains, has a spectral radius less than one, the overall infinite network is exponentially input-to-state stable. We illustrate the effectiveness of our result by applying it to traffic networks.

This paper discusses the advantages of constructing a vibration parameters measurement system of an aircraft wing using mems IMUs. In addition to mems IMUs, the system makes use of displacement sensor and navigation system as secondary measurements, along with the optimal Kalman filter estimation. The basic principles of system operation are described. The main algorithms of the system and its errors mathematical model are presented. The results of simulation are presented, demonstrating the expected measurement accuracy of the system as a whole.

The 2,4,5-Triphenyl Imidazole (TPI) were deposited as thin film by means of the physical vapor deposition (PVD) on glass and silicon substrates. On the other hand, three solutions were prepared with different concentrations using Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent. The physical properties of all samples were investigated using different techniques. For this purpose, the morphology of the thin film was analysed with the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and showed a highly rough surface. The optical properties of the thin film and the solutions were investigated via transmittance, and absorbance, which helped determine a band gap of 3.45 eV. Photoluminescence and thermal photoluminescence spectroscopy showed the high emission of the material in its different aspects. While theoretical simulations of the HOMO-LUMO gap and electronic absorption spectra were acquired using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) approach. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper describes control design considering magnetic flux characteristic uncertainty for magnetic levitation system with magnetic flux and current feedback. The position of the levitated object is calculated from the hall voltage and current of the electromagnet. We show the uncertainty for magnetic flux characteristic and design the stabilizing controller by proportional feedback with the hall voltage and current. Moreover, we tried to design servo controller by two-degree-of-freedom control by using a finite number of frequency response (FNFR) model including the uncertainty and confirmed the validity of the proposed method by experiment results. © 2019 The Institute of Eleclrical Engineers of Japan.

Modern electric grid companies are focused on minimum economically feasible costs and are aimed at improving the efficiency of financial and economic activities through the rational use of resources. The digital twin structure is proposed for the management of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures in an electric grid company. The digital twin includes an agent model, a system dynamics model, a geographic information system component, and modules with experiments. The description of the simulation model of management of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures is formalized, the input and output information on the model components is highlighted, the information is structured, and the scheme of the system dynamics model is created. Experiment designs for the digital twin of the management of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures in order to determine the best reliability and cost indicators are developed. The developed approach can be used to create digital twins of the management process of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures for various electric grid companies by selecting the parameters of simulation models according to the statistical reports by electric grid companies and connecting the appropriate GIS modules.

Human intention recognition for human aware planning in integrated warehouse systems

With the substantial growth of logistics businesses the need for larger and more automated warehouses increases, thus giving rise to fully robotized shop-floors with mobile robots in charge of transporting and distributing goods. However, even in fully automatized warehouse systems the need for human intervention frequently arises, whether because of maintenance or because of fulfilling specific orders, thus bringing mobile robots and humans ever closer in an integrated warehouse environment. In order to ensure smooth and efficient operation of such a warehouse, paths of both robots and humans need to be carefully planned;however, due to the possibility of humans deviating from the assigned path, this becomes an even more challenging task. Given that, the supervising system should be able to recognize human intentions and its alternative paths in real-time. In this paper, we propose a framework for human deviation detection and intention recognition which outputs the most probable paths of the humans workers and the planner that acts accordingly by replanning for robots to move out of the human's path. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework increases total number of deliveries, especially human deliveries, and reduces human-robot encounters. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. COVID-19 detection in CT images with deep learning: A voting-based scheme and cross-datasets analysis

Early detection and diagnosis are critical factors to control the COVID-19 spreading. A number of deep learning-based methodologies have been recently proposed for COVID-19 screening in CT scans as a tool to automate and help with the diagnosis. These approaches, however, suffer from at least one of the following problems: (i) they treat each CT scan slice independently and (ii) the methods are trained and tested with sets of images from the same dataset. Treating the slices independently means that the same patient may appear in the training and test sets at the same time which may produce misleading results. It also raises the question of whether the scans from the same patient should be evaluated as a group or not. Moreover, using a single dataset raises concerns about the generalization of the methods. Different datasets tend to present images of varying quality which may come from different types of CT machines reflecting the conditions of the countries and cities from where they come from. In order to address these two problems, in this work, we propose an Efficient Deep Learning Technique for the screening of COVID-19 with a voting-based approach. In this approach, the images from a given patient are classified as group in a voting system. The approach is tested in the two biggest datasets of COVID-19 CT analysis with a patient-based split. A cross dataset study is also presented to assess the robustness of the models in a more realistic scenario in which data comes from different distributions. The cross-dataset analysis has shown that the generalization power of deep learning models is far from acceptable for the task since accuracy drops from 87.68% to 56.16% on the best evaluation scenario. These results highlighted that the methods that aim at COVID-19 detection in CT-images have to improve significantly to be considered as a clinical option and larger and more diverse datasets are needed to evaluate the methods in a realistic scenario. © 2020 The Author
