The paper shows a Windows© NT/XP/7 application oriented to learn control skills to process engineers. It is a dynamic simulation based tool with a friendly user interface that contains two sets of diverse process control problems (more than twenty study cases are available). It is possible to study typical control problems as cascade, ratio, selective, override and feedforward control techniques and the tuning, configuration and operation of PID controllers. Additionally, it allows analyzing complex control systems installed in boilers, furnaces, distillation columns or reactors and special industrial control techniques to ensure the process safety. In order to outline the functional features of the tool, one of the simplest modules is shown. To conclude, an overview of the methodology and software used to develop this tool is also outlined. In particular, an object oriented modeling and simulation tool is used to develop the simulation models, a self-developed SCADA is used as graphical user interface and the simulation-SCADA communications are supported by the OPC standard. Finally, it must be remarked that this tool is used successfully in an industrial master of instrumentation and process control. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

The well-known bidimensionality theory provides a method for designing fast, subexponentialtime parameterized algorithms for a vast number of NP-hard problems on sparse graph classes such as planar graphs, bounded genus graphs, or, more generally, graphs with a fixed excluded minor. However, in order to apply the bidimensionality framework the considered problem needs to fulfill a special density property. Some well-known problems do not have this property, unfortunately, with probably the most prominent and important example being the Steiner Tree problem. Hence the question whether a subexponential-time parameterized algorithm for Steiner Tree on planar graphs exists has remained open. In this paper, we answer this question positively and develop an algorithm running in O(2O((k log k)2/3) n) time and polynomial space, where k is the size of the Steiner tree and n is the number of vertices of the graph. Our algorithm does not rely on tools from bidimensionality theory or graph minors theory, apart from Baker's classical approach. Instead, we introduce new tools and concepts to the study of the parameterized complexity of problems on sparse graphs.

In this paper, a systematic synthesis method for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller is proposed for T-S fuzzy plants with actuator saturation. By using the deadzone function, both the T-S fuzzy plant with actuator saturation and the T-S fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller are transformed into the form of linear fractional transformation (LFT). Within the framework of LFT, the issue of stability as well as H performance is cast as a convex optimization problem which can be approached by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The paper studies the problem of finding a realization of a nonlinear system described by a higher-order differential equation in the so-called feedforward form. A necessary and sufficient condition for the problem to be solvable is given, and it is represented by the requirement that the corresponding polynomial description of such an equation can be factorized. Then certain one-forms associated to the factorization are always integrable which allows to write down the realization. The results are also applied to derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the transformation of a nonlinear state equations into the feedforward form.

The problem of scalability of trajectories in homogeneous and locally homogeneous systems is considered. It is shown that the homogeneous systems have scalability property, and locally homogeneous systems possess this property approximately. The issue of closeness of trajectories for the system and its local homogeneous approximation is investigated. The notions of scale invariance and fold change detection are also studied. The results are illustrated by a cascade system analysis. © IFAC.

To investigate the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) to high resolution, the GoT2D and T2D-GENES consortia catalogued variation from whole-genome sequencing of 2,657 European individuals and exome sequencing of 12,940 individuals of multiple ancestries. Over 27M SNPs, indels, and structural variants were identified, including 99% of low-frequency (minor allele frequency [MAF] 0.1-5%) non-coding variants in the whole-genome sequenced individuals and 99.7% of low-frequency coding variants in the whole-exome sequenced individuals. Each variant was tested for association with T2D in the sequenced individuals, and, to increase power, most were tested in larger numbers of individuals (>80% of low-frequency coding variants in ~82 K Europeans via the exome chip, and ~90% of low-frequency non-coding variants in ~44 K Europeans via genotype imputation). The variants, genotypes, and association statistics from these analyses provide the largest reference to date of human genetic information relevant to T2D, for use in activities such as T2D-focused genotype imputation, functional characterization of variants or genes, and other novel analyses to detect associations between sequence variation and T2D.

We consider a class of convex feasibility problems where the constraints that describe the feasible set are loosely coupled. These problems arise in robust stability analysis of large, weakly interconnected uncertain systems. To facilitate distributed implementation of robust stability analysis of such systems, we describe two algorithms based on decomposition and simultaneous projections. The first algorithm is a nonlinear variant of Cimmino's mean projection algorithm, but by taking the structure of the constraints into account, we can obtain a faster rate of convergence. The second algorithm is devised by applying the alternating direction method of multipliers to a convex minimization reformulation of the convex feasibility problem. Numerical results are then used to show that both algorithms require far less iterations than the accelerated nonlinear Cimmino algorithm. © IFAC.

In this paper we provide the new version of algorithm for creation model called Generalized One-Sided Concept Lattice (GOSCL). This model provides the specific fuzzy version of data analytical method based on the approach known as Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), which supports data tables containing the multiple types of attributes defined as fuzzy sets. The acquisition of the FCA models is computationally complex task and it is important to find more effective algorithms for their creation. Therefore, we have designed the algorithm for the reduction of the computation times, which is based on the simple division of input data table using bisection-based approach and then merging procedure compose the local models into one finally merged concept lattice for the complete input data. We present the illustrative experiments which prove the applicability of the presented algorithm for sparse data inputs, where it is possible to get significant decrease of computation times. More effective algorithm for sparse data can be useful for the application of FCA-based models in sparse domains like information retrieval or text analysis.

The paper presents an analysis of the results of monitored on-line Enercon E40/6.44 wind turbine with gearless designed synchronous generator and a nominal power of 600 kW. In recent months, this plant underwent with high frequency emergency stopped, the source of which was the acceleration control system located in the nacelle. This situation causes significant and unnecessary overload of the power plant components but most of all causes significant losses of production of renewable energy due to operational downtime. This article analyzes the circumstances of errors reported by the turbine control system associated with the acceleration sensor based on data recorded during several months of using on-line SCADA system. An assessment of the impact of a number of indicators related to the wind speed and direction of the nacelle on the operation of the safety system of the turbine has been carried out. Also the possible causes of irregularities were proposed, which may be the subject of further research, especially with the use of advanced diagnostics based on vibroacoustic method.

On a controller parameterization for infinite-dimensional feedback systems based on the desired overshoot

The aim of this paper is to introduce, in detail, a novel approach for tuning of anisochronic singleinput single-output controllers for infinite-dimensional feedback control systems. A class of Linear Time- Invariant Time Delay Systems (LTI TDSs) is taken as a typical representative of infinite-dimensional systems. control design to obtain the eventual controller structure is made in the special ring of quasipolynomial meromorphic functions (RMS). The use of this algebraic approach with a simple feedback loop for unstable or integrating systems leads to infinite-dimensional (delayed) controllers as well as the whole feedback loop. A natural task is to set tunable controller parameters in order to form the crucial area of the infinite closed-loop spectrum. It is worth noting that not only poles yet also zeros are taken into account. The prescribed positions of the right-most reference-to-output poles and zeros are given on the basis of the desired overshoot for a simple finite-dimensional matching model the detailed analysis of which is provided. The dominant poles and zeros are shifted to the prescribed positions using the Quasi-Continuous Shifting Algorithm (QCSA) followed by the use of an advanced optimization algorithm. The whole methodology is called the Pole-Placement Shifting based controller tuning Algorithm (PPSA). The PPSA is demonstrated on the setting of parameters of delayed controller for an unstable time delay plant of a skater on the controlled swaying bow. This example, however, shows a treachery of the algorithm and a natural feature of an infinite-dimensional system - namely, that its spectrum or even its dominant part can not be placed arbitrarily. Advantages and drawback as well as possible modification of the algorithm are also discussed.
