In this paper we describe the possibility for usage of generalized version of one-sided (fuzzy) concept lattices, which represents analytical method from the area of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), for joining of several simple object-attribute models. The main advantage of the algorithm for (so-called) Generalized One-sided Concept Lattices (GOSCL) is its possibility or ability to work with various attributes types. Sometimes, the analyst needs to join some object-attribute models into one comprehensive structure, he/she is able to do it using generalized FCA approach in two basic ways, which are described within the paper. Both approaches provides isomorphic outputs, but provision of information can be different due to usage of generalized attributes, what leads to benefits like better interpretation and understanding of output models and data.

This paper presents the hybrid approach for visualization of documents sets by the combination of hierarchical clustering method, based on the Growing Hierarchical Self-Organizing Maps algorithm, and Sammon projection. Algorithms based on the self-organizing maps provide robust clustering method suitable for visualization of larger number of documents into the grid-based 2D maps. Sammon projection is nonlinear projection method suitable mostly to visualization of smaller sets of object on (usually 2D) maps based on the projections. Here we have implemented and tested combination of these approaches, where starting set of documents is organized using GHSOM to subsets of similar documents, then for clusters at the end of clustering phase, with smaller number of inputs, Sammon maps are created in order to provide distinction also for documents in these clusters. The method for extraction of characteristic terms based on the information gain analysis was used for description of clusters. Existing library JBOWL was used for implementation of the hybrid algorithm. For testing purposes, the documents in English language were used.

We present a new stabilization approach for a linear plant with input delay, parametric uncertainties, and an unknown harmonic disturbance affected the input and the output. To solve this problem, we combine the well-known predictor feedback approach with the state observer and adaptive scheme that identifies the frequency of the disturbance. Compared to the existing approaches, the structure of our adaptive scheme is the simplest and the results apply to plants that are unstable, non-minimum phase, and have an arbitrary relative degree.

The primary aim of CogInfoCom is to better understand how natural cognitive processes can effectively coevolve with processes in artificially cognitive systems. In this paper, the background of a new research direction within CogInfoCom - known as “mathability” - is discussed from a research historical perspective. Our goal is to illuminate the key motivations behind mathability from several perspectives, and to clarify more precisely why this direction can be seen as belonging to the research initiatives behind CogInfoCom.

Power generation control in variable-speed variable-pitch horizontal-axis wind turbines operating at high wind speeds is considered in this work. A torque and pitch control strategies are proposed, implemented and validated using the National Renewable Energy Laboratory wind turbine simulator FAST (Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures, and Turbulence) code. Numerical results show that the proposed controllers are effective for power regulation. The performance of the contributed controllers is compared to some state-of-the-art methodologies showing its improvements.

Cancer fighting treatments are expanding, and a promising type, targeted molecular therapies have a new approach. The aim of these therapies is not to eliminate the whole tumor, but to control the tumor into a given state and keep it there. Explicit knowledge of tumor growth dynamics and the effects of targeted molecular therapies is crucial in tumor treatment development. We show the results of mouse experiments where tumor growth was investigated in case of C38 colon adenocarcinoma and B16 melanoma. Several curves were fitted and tumor growth dynamics was examined. Three attributes of tumor were measured: tumor volume, tumor mass and vascularization; and tumor growth dynamics was examined. Tumor volume was measured with digital caliper, vascularization was investigated with CD31 antibody immunohistochemistry staining on frozen sections. The relationship between these tumor attributes were examined with linear regression analysis. The dynamics of tumor growth was identified as a second order linear system.

The Reengineering and continuous improvement are considered extreme approaches in the “life” of an organization. The present studies underline both the major differences and the resemblances between them. The objective of our study consists in bringing the meaning of these two approaches into the personal life development. The orientation towards one of them depends on several individual characteristics. There were applied several tests that deal with personality, the “taste” for risk, self-fulfillment through career, adaptability to changes etc. These tests were implemented in a software system. The results pointed the correspondences between the life stage and the suited personal development model.

This paper deals with control algorithms development for output stabilization of the parametrically uncertain linear plant of unknown relative degree. Simple adaptive control paradigm lies in the basis of proposed approach. controller was supplemented with the switching-based scheme of substitution of multiharmonic external disturbance frequencies' estimations that improves controller performance without its significant complication. Stability analysis of the closed-loop hybrid system was conducted and corresponding conditions on switching parameters were stated.

This paper focuses on the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) synchronization problem for event-driven measurement applications. The objective is twofold: i) to provide high accuracy in the area where an event is detected, ii) to ensure a long network life time. These two objectives are conflicting. In fact, to increase the synchronization accuracy packets must be exchanged at higher rate, thus affecting the network lifetime. In several interesting applications a trade-off can be achieved based on the observation that, if the goal is to observe a localized event, only the portion of the network surrounding the detected event requires a higher accuracy. The proposed algorithm represents a formalization of this idea. Simulations are done to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
