Swimming Behavior Analysis Based on Bacterial Chemotaxis in Solution

Microrobots is playing more and more important roles for medical applications, such as targeting tumoral lesions for therapeutic purposes, Minimally Invasive Surgery （MIS） and highly localized drug delivery. However, energy efficient pro- pulsion system poses significant challenges for the implementation of such mobile robots. Flagellated chemotactic bacteria can be used as an effective integrated propulsion system for microrobots. In this paper, we proposed a new type of propulsion method that is inspired by the motility mechanism of flagellated chemotactic bacteria in different pH gradients. The pH gradient field was established in solution through electrolysis method. The distribution of the pH values in solution was measured with pH indicator and analyzed with image processing technology, and the mechanism by which the pH values changed was also discussed. The swimming speed and direction of the bacteria were studied experimentally. Through analyzing the key pa- rameters, such as stabilization time and electrode voltage, the optimal design of propulsion mechanism based on bacteria motion in the pH gradient field was proven.

MEDV-13 for QSRR of 62 Polychlorinated Naphthalenes

A molecular electronegativity distance vector based on 13 atomic types (MEDV-13) is used to describe the structures of 62 polychlorinated naphthalene (PCN) congeners and related to the gas chromatographic relative retention indices (RIs) of PCNs. Using multiple linear regression, a 4-variable quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) with the correlation coefficient of estimations (r) being 0.9912 and the root mean square error of estimations (RMSEE) being 31.4 and the correlation coefficient of predictions (q) and the root mean square error of predictions (RMSEP) in the leave-one-out procedure are 0.9898 and 33.76, respectively.

There has been an increasing research interest in modeling,optimization and control of various multi-agent networks that have wide applications in industry,defense,security,and social areas,such as computing clusters,interconnected micro-grid systems,unmanned vessel swarms[1],power systems[2],multiple UAV systems[3]and sensor networks[4].For non-cooperative agents that only concern selfish profit-maximizing,the decision making problem can be modelled and solved with the help of game theory,while Nash equilibrium(NE)seeking is at the core to solve the non-cooperative multi-agent games[5-7].Distributed NE seeking methods are appealing compared with the center-based methods in large-scale networks due to its scalability,privacy protection,and ***,monotone operator theory is explored for distributed NE seeking,which is shown to provide an uniform framework for various algorithms in different *** has been gradually developing into a cutting-edge research field,with the prospect and necessity of future in-depth research.

Efficient Rate control Algorithm for Hierarchical Video Coding

For rate control (RC) of hierarchical structure coding, an independent rate-quantization (R-Q) model was proposed based on mean absolute differences (MADs) in different temporal levels (TLs). In the proposed R-Q model, a novel MAD model was developed according to the hierarchical structure. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides better performance, in terms of average peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and quality smoothness, than the H.264 reference model, JM14.2, under various sequences.

Monolayer-ordered gold nanoring arrays were prepared by ion-sputtering method and used as surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)substrates to test the individual atmospheric aerosols *** to other methods used for testing atmospheric aerosols particles,the collection and subsequent detection in our work is performed directly on the gold nanoring SERS substrate without any treatment of the *** SERS performance can be tuned by changing the depth of the gold nanoring cavity as originating from coupling of dipolar modes at the inner and outer surfaces of the *** electric field exhibits uniform enhancement and polarization in the ordered Au nanoring substrate,which can improve the accuracy for detecting atmospheric aerosol *** with Raman mapping,the information about chemical composition of individual atmospheric aerosols particle and distribution of specific components can be presented *** results show the potential of SERS in enabling improved analysis of aerosol particle chemical composition,mixing state,and other related physicochemical properties.

Photooxidation of Methacrolein in Fe(III)-Oxalate Aqueous System and Its Atmospheric Implication

Iron and oxalic acids are widely distributed in the atmosphere and easily form ferric oxalate complex(Fe(III)-Ox).The tropospheric aqueous-phase could provide a medium to enable the photo-Fenton reaction with Fe(III)-Ox under solar *** the photolysis mechanisms of Fe(III)-Ox have been investigated extensively,information about the oxidation of volatile organic compounds(VOC),specifically the potential for Secondary Organic Aerosol(SOA)formation in the Fe(III)-Ox system,is *** this study,a ubiquitous VOC methacrolein(MACR)is chosen as a model VOC,and the oxidation of MACR with Fe(III)-Ox is investigated under typical atmospheric water *** effects of oxalate concentration,Fe(III)concentration,MACR concentration,and pH on the oxidation of MACR are studied in *** show that the oxidation rate of MACR greatly accelerates in the presence of oxalate when compared with only Fe(III).The oxidation rate of MACR also accelerates with increasing concentration of *** effect of Fe(III)is found to be more *** oxidation rate of MACR first increases and then decreases with increasing Fe(III)*** oxidation rate of MACR increases monotonically with decreasing pH in the common atmospheric water pH range or with decreasing MACR *** production of ferrous and hydrogen peroxide,pH,and aqueous absorbance are monitored throughout the reaction *** quenching experiments verify that·OH and O_(2)^(+)are both responsible for the oxidation of *** is found to rapidly oxidize into small organic acids with higher boiling points and oligomers with higher molecular weight,which contributes to the yield of *** results suggest that Fe(III)-Ox plays an important role in atmospheric oxidation.

Co_(3)O_(4)as an efficient passive NO_(x) adsorber for emission control during cold-start of diesel engines

The Co_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles,dominated by a catalytically active(110)lattice plane,were synthesized as a low-temperature NO_(x) adsorbent to control the cold start emissions from *** nanoparticles boast a substantial quantity of active chemisorbed oxygen and lattice oxygen,which exhibited a NO_(x) uptake capacity commensurate with Pd/SSZ-13 at 100℃.The primary NO_(x) release temperature falls within a temperature range of 200-350℃,making it perfectly suitable for diesel *** characterization results demonstrate that chemisorbed oxygen facilitate nitro/nitrites intermediates formation,contributing to the NO_(x) storage at 100℃,while the nitrites begin to decompose within the 150-200℃***,lattice oxygen likely becomes involved in the activation of nitrites into more stable nitrate within this particular temperature *** concurrent processes of nitrites decomposition and its conversion to nitrates results in a minimal NO_(x) release between the temperatures of 150-200℃.The nitrate formed via lattice oxygen mainly induces the NO_(x) to be released as NO_(2) within a temperature range of 200-350℃,which is advantageous in enhancing the NO_(x) activity of downstream NH_(3)-SCR catalysts,by boosting the fast SCR reaction *** to its low cost,considerable NO_(x) absorption capacity,and optimal release temperature,Co_(3)O_(4)demonstrates potential as an effective material for passive NO_(x) adsorber applications.
