Detecting and delineating brain tumors from MRI images using artificial intelligence presents a complex challenge in medical AI. Recent progress has seen a variety of techniques employed to assist medical professionals in this task. Despite the effectiveness of machine learning algorithms in segmenting tumors, their lack of transparency in decision-making hinders trust and validation. In our project, we constructed an interpretable U-Net Model specifically tailored for brain tumor segmentation, leveraging both the Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) Algorithm and the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) library. We relied on the BraTS2020 benchmark dataset for training and evaluation purposes. The U-Net model we employed yielded promising results. We then utilized Grad-CAM to visualize the crucial features attended to by the model within an image. Additionally, we enhanced interpretability by utilizing the SHAP library to elucidate the predictions made by various models (including Random Forest, KNN, SVC, and MLP) utilized for predicting patient survival days. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Breast cancer is a major global health concern. Pathologists face challenges in analyzing complex features from pathological images, which is a time-consuming and labor-intensive task. Therefore, efficient computer-based diagnostic tools are needed for early detection and treatment planning. This paper presents a modified version of MultiResU-Net for histopathology image segmentation, which is selected as the backbone for its ability to analyze and segment complex features at multiple scales and ensure effective feature flow via skip connections. The modified version also utilizes the Gaussian distribution-based Attention Module (GdAM) to incorporate histopathology-relevant text information in a Gaussian distribution. The sampled features from the Gaussian text feature-guided distribution highlight specific spatial regions based on prior knowledge. Finally, using the controlled Dense Residual Block (CDRB) on skip connections of MultiResU-Net, the information is transferred from the encoder layers to the decoder layers in a controlled manner using a scaling parameter derived from the extracted spatial features. We validate our approach on two diverse breast cancer histopathology image datasets: TNBC and MonuSeg, demonstrating superior segmentation performance compared to state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The use of autonomous systems in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) has become incredibly important, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This period has overwhelmed both ICUs and hospitals, halting many other medical activities and causing significant challenges. This project aims to develop a navigation system tailored specifically for the ICU environment, adapting it to the unique procedures and regulations of that setting. Due to the critical conditions of ICU patients, strict rules dictate precise requirements for navigation, necessitating a context-specific approach. This work will propose a comprehensive navigation system capable of safely guiding from point A to point B within an ICU while addressing the critical issues present in such environments. Unlike traditional Nav2 systems, it will feature specialized collision avoidance components designed specifically for ICU settings, taking into account both contextual demands and the chosen approach. This will involve implementing a multilayered protection technique and employing active movements to prevent collisions with dynamic obstacles. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The General-purpose Petri Net Simulator (GPenSIM) is a tool for modeling, simulation, and performance analysis of discrete event systems. GPenSIM is specially designed to model real-life industrial systems. Hence, the transitions in GPenSIM represent real-life events, such as machines. However, this induces a problem, namely that an enabled transition consumes tokens from its input places immediately. This act of an enabled transition immediately consuming tokens gives only monetarily visibility to the tokens, which can be a problem for certain cases where we need to see the tokens in their input places for a while. This paper proposes a method to delay an enabled transition ("delayed transitions") so that the tokens it is supposed to consume from its input places will be visible for a while. This paper, after presenting the theory and the method, also presents an application (the cat and mouse problem) of the delayed transitions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The growing demand for energy-saving lamps highlights critical limitations in traditional LED secondary optics, which reduce energy efficiency and complicate heat dissipation - a key factor in LED lamp longevity. This study proposes an optimized circuit design for a 20-watt LED driver that addresses these issues. The proposed driver ensures effective LED control while improving thermal management and eliminating drawbacks of conventional designs. Key principles of modern LED lamp design and current challenges are identified. The electronic schematic of the high-power LED driver was simulated using LTSpice software in order to analyze and optimize the circuit's performance, resulting in a driver solution that enhances efficiency and reliability. © 2025 IEEE.

The supply chain network is one of the most important areas of focus in the majority of business circumstances. Blockchain technology is a feasible choice for secure information sharing in a supply chain network. Despite the fact that maintaining security at all levels of the blockchain is difficult, cryptographic methods are commonly used in existing works. Effective supply chain management (SCM) offers various benefits to organizations, such as enhanced customer satisfaction, increased operational efficiency, competitive advantage, and cost reduction. Potential SCM for agricultural and food supply chains needs distributors, coordination and collaboration among farmers, retailers, and stakeholders. The use of technology like Block Chain (BC), sensors, and data analytics, can boost traceability and visibility, decrease waste, and ensure safety and quality throughout the supply chain. Therefore, this study develops a Hunger Games Search Optimization with Deep Learning Model for Sustainable agricultural and food Supply Chain Management (HGSODL-ASCM) technique. The fundamental goal of the HGSODL-ASCM technique is to improve decision-making processes for agricultural and food commodity production and storage in order to optimise revenue. In the provided HGSODL-ASCM technique, a bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) model is built to determine the amount of productivity and storage required to maximise profit. In order to boost the performance of the Bi-LSTM classification process, the HGSO algorithm has been utilized in this work. The presented HGSODL-ASCM technique can independently achieve the SCM policies via interaction with complicated and adaptive environments. A brief set of simulations were performed to ensure the improved performance of the HGSODL-ASCM technique. The simulation results demonstrated how superior the HGSODL-ASCM method is to other methods already in use. © The Author(s) 2023.

This paper considers the communication system assisted by a fixed-trajectory unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which is equipped with a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). For this UAV-RIS assisted system, we jointly optimize the power allocation and active beamforming at the base station (BS) and the passive beamforming at the RIS, by a novel phase block coordinate descent algorithm framework aimed at maximizing the system sum-rate. Specifically, the joint optimization problem is decomposed into two phases, and we propose two optimization algorithms: one for BS power allocation using fractional programming (FP) and the other for jointly optimizing active and passive beamforming using FP-manifold, which alternately optimize two phases. Simulation results not only highlight the rapid convergence and evident superiority of our proposed framework but also reveal that the optimal UAV-RIS placement is related to the flight height. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper addresses the problem of secure recursive state estimation for a networked linear system, which may be vulnerable to interception of transmitted measurement data by eavesdroppers. To effectively protect information security, an encryption-decryption-based communication scheme can be used, but encrypting all the measurement data from sensors can result in significant computational costs. To address this issue, a partial-encryption-decryption (PED) mechanism is proposed to enhance information security with relatively low computational costs. In this mechanism, only part of the transmitted measurement signals are encrypted, and the remaining signals are transmitted directly to the estimator. A Jordan-canonical-form-based approach is developed to select the appropriate parameter for the PED mechanism, and recursive formulas for the state estimator are designed based on the principle of minimum mean squared error. Sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the estimation error variance matrix. Finally, the proposed PED-based recursive state estimation scheme is evaluated through two simulation examples to demonstrate its effectiveness. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

This paper classifies and summarises the historical literature on carousel systems in automated storage and retrieval systems in recent years. As an automated storage and retrieval system for distribution centers and production facilities, carousels facilitate the storage and dispatching of goods, significantly improving warehouse turnover efficiency. Their performance have been investigated by many scholars and experts. As carousels evolve and upgrade, more and more innovative algorithms have been used to improve the efficiency of outbound carousel storage. In this paper, we collate articles investigating how the carousel system is stored inbound versus retrieved outbound. We then discuss articles on the dual-command model of automatic storage retrieval systems as a whole. By reviewing over 50 papers, we summarise research on how to store and unload goods, focusing on the performance of automatic storage retrieval systems under dual-command conditions. On this basis, we review the current research's limitations and suggest future research directions. © 2023 IEEE.

The growing prevalence of automated threats in e-commerce necessitates effective security measures, exemplified by CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell computers and Humans Apart). However, the use of CAPTCHAs introduces challenges related to user perception, engagement, and frustration. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the impact of CAPTCHAs on ecommerce transactions, including their influence on user behavior, security effectiveness, and the complexity of their implementation. Through a structured questionnaire-based approach, we gathered insights from users, assessing their experiences and perceptions of CAPTCHAs during online shopping. Our analysis involved quantitative data, utilizing statistical software, to provide a holistic understanding of these security measures in the e-commerce domain. Users support the effort to make CAPTCHAs engaging, and many find gamified elements positive. A substantial number express high frustration with multiple CAPTCHAs, affecting their willingness to return to e-commerce platforms. This study outlines the importance of optimizing CAPTCHAs to balance security and user experience in e-commerce. © 2024 IEEE.
