According to the intelligent behavior of social population, a novel particle swarm optimization algorithm based on predatory search strategy (PS-CPSO) is proposed by introducing the centroid of particle swarm in the standard particle swarm optimization model to improve global optimum efficiency and accuracy of algorithm. Results of Benchmark function simulation and material balance computation (MBC) in alumina production show that the new method not only improves the local searching efficiency and global searching performance greatly, but also has faster convergence speed and higher precision, and can avoid the premature convergence problem effectively.

Over the last two or three years, the increasing costs of energy, greater awareness of environmental concerns and worsening market conditions have focussed even greater attention within paper mills than before, on considering ways to reduce the energy used in paper making. Arising from a multivariable understanding of paper machine operation, Advanced Process control (APC) technology enables paper machine behaviour to be controlled in a more coherent way, using all the variables available for control. Furthermore, with the machine under better regulation and with more variables used in control, there is the opportunity to optimise machine operation, usually providing very striking multi-objective performance improvement benefits of a number of kinds. Traditional three tem control technology does not offer this capability. The paper presents results from several different APC paper machine projects we have undertaken around the world. These projects have been aimed at improving machine stability, optimising chemicals usage and reducing energy use. On a brown paperboard machine in Australia, specific steam usage has been reduced by greater than 10%, averaged across the grades;the controller has also provided a significant capacity to increase production. On a Canadian newsprint machine the APC system has reduced steam usage by 10%, and it provides better control of colour and much improved wet end stability. The paper also outlines early results from two other APC projects being undertaken in England, each aimed at examining a different approach to reducing the energy used in paper making. The first of these two projects is focussed on optimising sheet drainage, aiming to present the dryer with a sheet having higher solids content. A compensatory neurofuzzy system (CNFS) with on-line learning ability is proposed in this paper. The proposed CNFS model uses a compensatory layer to raise the diversity of fuzzy rules by compensatory weights. The compensatory layer can automatically compare with each fuzzy rule and select higher resources for more important fuzzy rule. An online learning algorithm, which consists of structure learning and parameter learning, is also presented. The structure learning depends on the fuzzy measure to determine the number of fuzzy rules. The parameter learning, based on the gradient descent method, can adjust the shape of the membership function and the weights of the compensatory layer. To demonstrate the capability of the proposed CNFS, it is applied to the Iris, and Wisconsin breast cancer classification datasets from the UCI Repository. Experimental results show that the proposed CNFS for pattern classification can achieve good classification performance.

This paper proposes an Internal /Interconnection Recurrent Type-2 Fuzzy Neural Network (IRT2FNN) for dynamic system identification. The antecedent part of IRT2FNN forms a self and interconnection feedback loop by feeding the past and current firing strength of each rule. The TSK-type consequent part is a linear model of exogenous inputs with interval weights. The initial rule base in the IRT2FNN is empty, and an on-line constructing method is proposed to generate fuzzy rules which flexibly partition the input space. The recurrent structure in the IRT2FNN enable to handle dynamic system identification problems with a priori knowledge of system input and output delay numbers. Simulations on dynamic system identification verify the performance of IRT2FNN with clean and noisy outputs as well.

The paper presents a problem of Real Time processing of ECG signal from patients by mobile embedded monitoring stations. Two ECG measurement devices were used in real tests. A two ECG channel bipolar ECG CorBelt and a 12 channels ECG device BlueECG. Both devices are products from Corscience Company. Due to a problem of processing a 12 channels ECG from ECG device by Bluetooth to mobile stations, the problem of packet parsing was discussed and two possible solutions were focused on. Another important part in biomedical data processing is visualization. A Windows Presentation Foundation solution was presented and tested. Mobile embedded monitoring stations are based on Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. The whole system is based on the architecture of . NET Framework, .NET Compact Framework, .NET Micro Framework and Microsoft SQL Server. The project was successfully tested in real environment in cryogenic room (-136°C).

A simulation approach was proposed to analyze the spectra of Doppler signals in local expansion artery, which can provide a useful guidance for detecting the formation and growth progress of the aneurysms using the Doppler ultrasound technology and forecasting the size of aneurysm. Firstly, by solving Navier-Stokes equations, the velocity distributions in the vessels with various expansion degrees are calculated. Secondly, power spectral density (PSD) of the Doppler signals is estimated according to the relationship of velocity profiles and power spectral density. Finally, Doppler signals are generated using cosine-superposed methods. The results show that the spectra of Doppler signals are similar to those found in practice. Therefore, the proposed approach is useful for simulating the spectra of Doppler ultrasound signals.

We present the design of the Tempo mote that operates on ambient energy harvested from the environment. Equipped with a ultra low-power timing module that acquires Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) information from a longrange radio transmitter, Tempo can persistently access the global time and is thereby resilient to power outages. A prototype implementation of the Tempo mote shows that it achieves millisecond level accuracy at 100 μA current draw. We argue that one can more generally leverage the access to global time across all nodes of a wireless sensor network to overcome the challenges related to the very tight energy budget that is inherent with harvesting ambient energy.
