In order to solve the problem of image degradation caused by dust environments, an image degradation model considering multiple scattering factors caused by dust was first established using the first-order multiple scattering method. Then, a dark channel prior principle was applied to present an image restoration algorithm based on the image degradation model. Finally, GA optimization algorithm was applied to optimize the atmospheric light and the exposure parameters. This optimization algorithm was established according to the criterion of the image evaluation based on kirsch operator with automatic threshold. By using the method an optimistic result of image restoration was obtained. The experimental results have shown that the method not only enhanced luminance and contrast, but also discovered more detail edges information. The method provided a foundation for target recognition in the dust environments.

This paper investigates dynamic stability and control design of modern electric energy systems as many MW-scale distributed generators (DG) of various types are deployed in the distribution side of electric systems. The paper is mainly concerned about small-signal frequency stability of distribution systems with decentralized or centralized control systems. The Gerschgorin Circle Theory and Hicks Stability Theory are used for verifying sufficient conditions for small-signal stability. The paper also discusses about designing advanced enhancing robustness methods to ensure both safety and stability of modern distribution systems. Finally, the paper closes with a discussion of policies needed to support large penetration of DG units in distribution systems to ensure safety and robustness of the system.

This paper deals with the iterative learning control (ILC) problem for uncertain time-delay systems (TDS). In order to ensure monotonic convergence of the ILC process, a sufficient condition is developed using an H ∞ -based framework. It shows that under this framework, the convergence condition is enabled to be delay-dependent and have a formulation in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Moreover, formulas for the updating law design can be derived by directly solving LMIs. A numerical example is provided to verify that the delay-dependent condition in LMI forms is effective in producing monotonically convergent ILC algorithms.

New enhancement of infrared image based on human visual system

Infrared images are firstly analyzed using the multifractal theory so that the singularity of each pixel can be extracted from the images. The multifractal spectrum is then estimated, which can reflect overall characteristic of an infrared image. Thus the edge and texture of an infrared image can be accurately extracted based on the singularity of each pixel and the multifractal spectrum. Finally the edge pixels are classified and enhanced in accordance with the sensitivity of human visual system to the edge profile of an infrared image. The experimental results obtained by this approach are compared with those obtained by other methods. It is found that the proposed approach can be used to highlight the edge area of an infrared image to make an infrared image more suitable for observation by human eyes.

Improving the control of shading blinds, lights, natural ventilation, and HVAC systems while satisfying human comfort requirements can result in significant energy cost savings with time-of-day electricity pricing. Traditionally, the above-mentioned devices are controlled separately. In this paper, a novel formulation for the integrated control and the corresponding solution methodology are presented. The problem is to minimize daily energy costs of lights and HVAC systems while satisfying equipment capacities, system dynamics, and human comfort. The problem is complicated since 1) individual rooms are coupled as they compete for the HVAC with limited capacity and nonlinear characteristics, and 2) the problem is believed to be NP-hard in view that decision variables are all discrete. A solution methodology that combines Lagrangian relaxation and stochastic dynamic programming is developed within the surrogate optimization framework to obtain near-optimal strategies. These strategies are further refined to become novel control rules for easy practical implementation. Numerical simulation results show that both of the above strategies can effectively reduce the total energy cost, and that the integrated control works better than selected traditional control strategies.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to propose an automatic pattern matching template generating method for the automatic optical inspection system in TFT LCD assembly and positioning process, to improve the conventional image technology. Besides, focusing on integrating the image system with the existing control system, the double aligner mark searching time is decreased to reduce the working time of the integrated system. Design/methodology/approach - The improved pattern matching method of genetic algorithm was adopted, including setting for template image selecting, encoding, calculating fitness function, pattern matching, template generating and genetic algorithm steps. The predetermined pixels were selected from the target template based on the minimum difference to the block image to be tested by utilizing the genetic algorithm, and the other pixels which have not been selected were neglected. Findings - The selected pixels were encoded for recording by sequence mode, and then the target template and the image to be tested were compared based on the calculated fitness function. This method has the advantages of using the fitness function to reduce the searching time, with the help of genetic algorithm to find the optimal target template, and saving memory space by recording target template based on the sequence mode. Research limitations/implications - The genetic algorithm used in this study is a kind of optimal tool free from gradient data. As long as the fitness function and after continuous iteration are determined, the optimal solution can be found out, and then the optimal target template can be generated. Practical implications - This system uses fitness function to reduce the pattern matching time. Plural pixels are preset inside the target template, and its fitness function value is calculated. When the target template is compared with the image to be tested, only the fitness function value (also the difference of the plural pixels) is calculated

Dynamic calibration and occlusion handling algorithms for lane tracking

An approach of rapidly computing the projective width of lanes is presented to predict the projective positions and widths of lanes. The Lane Marking Extraction Finite State Machine is designed to extract points with features of lane markings in the image, and a cubic B-spline is adopted to conduct curve fitting to reconstruct road geometry. A statistical search algorithm is also proposed to correctly and adaptively determine thresholds under various kinds of illumination conditions. Furthermore, the parameters of the camera in a moving car may change with the vibration, so a dynamic calibration algorithm is applied to calibrate camera parameters and lane widths with the information of lane projection. Moreover, a fuzzy logic is applied to determine the situation of occlusion. Finally, a region-of-interest determination strategy is developed to reduce the search region and to make the detection more robust with respect to the occlusion on the lane markings or complicated changes of curves and road boundaries. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper is devoted to the problem of L_(2)-L_(infinity) control for a class of stochastic time-delay systems via observer-based feedback control. The considered observer contains no time-delay. The purpose is to design an observer-based feedback stabilizing controller such that the augmented closed-loop system is stochastically asymptotically stable with a prescribed L_(2)-L_(infinity) performance satisfied. Based on the stochastic stability theory, a delay-dependent sufficient condition is derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The observer and controller design method is proposed, while the corresponding explicit expression for the observer and controller gain matrices is also given. Finally, numerical examples and simulation results are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

This paper is devoted to the resampling problem of particle filters. We firstly demonstrate the performance of classical Resampling algorithm (also called as systematic resampling algorithm) using a novel metaphor, through which the existing defects of Resampling algorithm is vividly reflected simultaneously. In order to avoid these defects, the exquisite resampling (ER) algorithm is induced which involves some exquisite actions such as comparing the weights by stages and generating the new particles based on quasi-Monte Carlo method. Simulations indicate that the proposed ER algorithm can reduce the sample impoverishment effectively and improve the accuracy of estimation evidently, which confirm that ER algorithm is a competitive alternative to Resampling algorithm.

This paper is concerned with the problem of L_(2)-L_(infinity) filtering for a class of neutral stochastic systems with both discrete and distributed time-varying delays. The purpose is focusd on the design of a full order filter such that the resulting filtering error system is stochastically asymptotically stable in the mean square with a prescribed L_(2)-L_(infinity) disturbance attenuation level satisfied. By employing Lyapunov functional and stochastic stability theory, a delay-dependent sufficient condition for the existence of such a filter is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The desired filter can be obtained by solving two LMIs.
