Limited transferability hinders the performance of deep learning models when applied to new application scenarios. Recently, Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (UDA) has achieved significant progress in addressing this issue via learning domain-invariant features. However, the performance of existing UDA methods is constrained by the large domain shift and limited target domain data. To alleviate these issues, we propose DomAin-guided Conditional Diffusion Model (DACDM) to generate high-fidelity and diversity samples for the target domain. In the proposed DACDM, by introducing class information, the labels of generated samples can be controlled, and a domain classifier is further introduced in DACDM to guide the generated samples for the target domain. The generated samples help existing UDA methods transfer from the source domain to the target domain more easily, thus improving the transfer performance. Extensive experiments on various benchmarks demonstrate that DACDM brings a large improvement to the performance of existing UDA methods. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Reinforcement learning(RL) has roots in dynamic programming and it is called adaptive/approximate dynamic programming(ADP) within the control community. This paper reviews recent developments in ADP along with RL and its applications to various advanced control fields. First, the background of the development of ADP is described, emphasizing the significance of regulation and tracking control problems. Some effective offline and online algorithms for ADP/adaptive critic control are displayed, where the main results towards discrete-time systems and continuous-time systems are surveyed, ***, the research progress on adaptive critic control based on the event-triggered framework and under uncertain environment is discussed, respectively, where event-based design, robust stabilization, and game design are reviewed. Moreover, the extensions of ADP for addressing control problems under complex environment attract enormous attention. The ADP architecture is revisited under the perspective of data-driven and RL frameworks,showing how they promote ADP formulation ***, several typical control applications with respect to RL and ADP are summarized, particularly in the fields of wastewater treatment processes and power systems, followed by some general prospects for future research. Overall, the comprehensive survey on ADP and RL for advanced control applications has d emonstrated its remarkable potential within the artificial intelligence era. In addition, it also plays a vital role in promoting environmental protection and industrial intelligence.

In the second segment of the tutorial, we transition from the granularity of local interpretability to a broader exploration of eXplainable AI (XAI) methods. Building on the specific focus of the first part, which delved into Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP), this section takes a more expansive approach. We will navigate through various XAI techniques of more global nature, covering counterfactual explanations, equation discovery, and the integration of physics-informed AI. Unlike the initial part, which concentrated on two specific methods, this section offers a general overview of these broader classes of techniques for explanation. The objective is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse strategies available for making complex machine learning models interpretable on a more global scale.

This paper investigates the anomaly-resistant decentralized state estimation(SE) problem for a class of wide-area power systems which are divided into several non-overlapping areas connected through transmission lines. Two classes of measurements(i.e., local measurements and edge measurements) are obtained, respectively, from the individual area and the transmission lines. A decentralized state estimator, whose performance is resistant against measurement with anomalies, is designed based on the minimum error entropy with fiducial points(MEEF) criterion. Specifically, 1) An augmented model, which incorporates the local prediction and local measurement, is developed by resorting to the unscented transformation approach and the statistical linearization approach;2) Using the augmented model, an MEEF-based cost function is designed that reflects the local prediction errors of the state and the measurement;and 3) The local estimate is first obtained by minimizing the MEEF-based cost function through a fixed-point iteration and then updated by using the edge measuring information. Finally, simulation experiments with three scenarios are carried out on the IEEE 14-bus system to illustrate the validity of the proposed anomaly-resistant decentralized SE scheme.

In this paper, an active fault tolerant control method for spacecraft against actuator faults, uncertainties and disturbances is investigated. First, an adaptive iterative learning observer with improved adaptive law is proposed, which greatly improves the accuracy and speed of fault estimation. Then, a novel adaptive finite time prescribed performance fault tolerant controller is proposed, which has flexible performance constraints according to faults and control references, with better robustness and lower conservatism, breaking the limitation of fixed performance constraint. Next, an online optimal control allocation strategy is designed to achieve high-performance actuator allocation under saturation and fault constraints. Finally, through numerical simulation, the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed scheme are illustrated by comparing with existing methods.

Motion systems are a vital part of many industrial processes. However, meeting the increasingly stringent demands of these systems, especially concerning precision and throughput, requires novel control design methods that can go beyond the capabilities of traditional solutions. Traditional control methods often struggle with the complexity and position-dependent effects inherent in modern motion systems, leading to compromises in performance and a laborious task of controller design. This paper addresses these challenges by introducing a novel structured feedback control auto-tuning approach for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) motion systems. By leveraging frequency response function (FRF) estimates and the linear-parameter-varying (LPV) control framework, the proposed approach automates the controller design, while providing local stability and performance guarantees. Key innovations include norm-based magnitude optimization of the sensitivity functions, an automated stability check through a novel extended factorized Nyquist criterion, a modular structured MIMO LPV controller parameterization, and a controller discretization approach which preserves the continuous-time (CT) controller parameterization. This paper proposes a novel approach for the design of stabilizing sliding manifolds for linear systems affected by model uncertainties and external disturbances. In classical sliding mode control approaches, rejecting model uncertainties and external disturbances often relies on designing a dis-continuous control law with a suitable gain. Specifically, the greater the uncertainty, the larger the control gain. However, this approach might be detrimental to the plant. Instead, the proposed technique deals with this problem by focusing on the design of a suitable sliding manifold, where stability is guaranteed despite model uncertainties. This approach exhibits several benefits such as not needing any further identification process and designing a smaller control gain.

With the current shift in the mass media landscape from journalistic rigor to social media, personalized social media is becoming the new norm. Although the digitalization progress of the media brings many advantages, it also increases the risk of spreading disinformation, misinformation, and malformation through the use of fake news. The emergence of this harmful phenomenon has managed to polarize society and manipulate public opinion on particular topics, e.g., elections, vaccinations, etc. Such information propagated on social media can distort public perceptions and generate social unrest while lacking the rigor of traditional journalism. Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning techniques are essential for developing efficient tools that can detect fake news. Models that use the context of textual data are essential for resolving the fake news detection problem, as they manage to encode linguistic features within the vector representation of words. In this paper, we propose a new approach that uses document embeddings to build multiple models that accurately label news articles as reliable or fake. We also present a benchmark on different architectures that detect fake news using binary or multi-labeled classification. We evaluated the models on five large news corpora using accuracy, precision, and recall. We obtained better results than more complex state-of-the-art Deep Neural Network models. We observe that the most important factor for obtaining high accuracy is the document encoding, not the classification model's complexity. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.
