Stability of neutral time-delay system is investigated on the basis of the argument increment assessment of the characteristic quasi-polynomial. The decisive meaning of the strong stability requirement is highlighted. The stability criterion results in a special modification of Mikhaylov criterion for neutral time-delay systems. To facilitate the argument assessment from the hodographs the Poincare mapping transformation is applied. Several demonstration examples are presented.

This paper proposes a single-phase grid-connected inverter for Photovoltaic (PV) systems using a Boost Two-Cell Switching (BTCS) converter based on a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique. Due to nonlinear I-V characteristic of PV cells, the system must include an algorithm to obtain the maximum power from PV cells at any atmospheric condition. The method used in this paper is the incremental conductance (INC) algorithm. The BTCS converter is selected as a power stage with the two-cell semiconductor switching devices controlled to obtain a maximum power from PV cells. The H-bridge inverter provides a sinusoidal current and synchronizes with the grid voltage. The control of the inverter is based on ramp comparison control with constant switching frequency and zero crossing voltage detectors. The experimental results in a test lab showed the effectiveness of the proposed PV system in both constant and rapidly changing in atmospheric conditions.

The problem of vehicle detection and segmentation in outdoor scenes is tackled. Vehicle shadows pose problems in vehicle segmentation step. In this paper, it is proposed to employ temporal edge density information as prior knowledge to distinguish moving vehicle from moving shadow and background in a traffic surveillance system. Experimental results showed good moving vehicle segmentation performance. The proposed approach is currently limited to free-flowing traffic scenes.

The aim of this paper is to give a solution to unbalance problem of the input DC voltages of the nine-level NPC-VSI in dq synchronous frame. For that, we used in high voltage and great power applications, one two-level PWM current rectifier-nine-level NPC VSI cascade. In the first part, we develop a knowledge model of the nine-level NPC VSI and propose a space vector modulation of this converter using eight bipolar carriers. After that, this study shows particularly the problem of the stability of the DC voltages of the inverter. Then, we propose a solution to the problem by employed closed loop regulation using classic PI regulator mode in d-q synchronous frame. We add a clamping bridge to stabilise the multi DC input voltages of the nine-level NPC VSI. This cascade found applications in great power and high voltage fields as electrical traction.

This research studies the proof of concept to road traffic estimation based on the position and velocity of cellular phones. The positioning technique, received signal strength method, was applied to obtain road traffic data. The two algorithms: Linear interpolation of position from signal strength and centroid of signal strength were implemented to identify the positions and velocity of a mobile phone in cars. Successfully estimated results, position and speed, showed that both of two methods have the potential to estimate traffic congestion while the first method is more efficient than another. According to the first method, it yielded an average error of 190.8 m, while the velocity estimation yielded an average error of 10.38 km/hr. The errors from another are 195.29 m and 10.39 km/hr respectively.

This paper presents the optimal design of PID controller based on a particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach for position control using spring shape memory alloys (SMA) actuator. The mathematical model of experimental system had been approximate near the operating point for the PSO algorithm to adjust PID parameters for the minimum integrated absolute error (IAE) condition. The results show the adjustment of PID parameters converting into the optimal point and the good control response base on the optimal values by the PSO technique.
