This paper presents a machine vision method to inspect the maturity of pineapples that ripe naturally. Unlike previous methods, the proposed technique can be categorized as a real-time non destructive testing (Real-Time NDT) approach. It consists of two phases, learning and recognition phases. In the learning phase, the system constructs a library of reference pineapple-skin-color models. In the recognition phase, the same process is performed to build a pineapple-skin-color model of the testing subject. The model is then compared with each of the reference in the library by a method called region-segmented histogram intersection. The subject is then labeled with the grade of the best match. The system achieved a high performance and speed (3 frames/sec.) in our experiment. The system also includes weighing machine on belt transmission for weight prediction.

This paper examines the relationship between golf club motion and muscle strain when swinging a golf club. It is qualitatively known in the field of sports that strong straining of the muscle when swinging leads to ill form. Many famous sports players say that sports training must be repeated to know how to relax one's muscles. In this study, we experimentally investigated the relation between strain in muscle and fluctuation of golf club loci. We found that advanced players hardly strain their muscles under unnecessary situations, whereas novice players strain their muscles strongly throughout the swing. Sleep age and sleep index are defined based on heartbeat and body movement measured noninvasively by the pneumatic method for a person sleeping in bed. Sleep age indicates the quality of sleep, and sleep index shows the temporal changes in sleep conditions, by which the sleep stage of the R-K method can be estimated. The paper is focused on fault detection and isolation (FDI) in a stochastic nonlinear system affected by noise. The substance of the presented Bayesian identification-based FDI methodology is a probabilistic model determined by the fault probability table. The methodology consists in probabilistic mapping of the measured data into a fault variable. Necessary computations are very simple and heuristic knowledge about the fault can also be easily included in real time. The practical aspects of the proposed FDI algorithm have been tested in real time on a laboratory heating system. The results obtained proved suitability of the designed algorithm for fault detection and isolation in real plants.

This paper presents the development of an intelligent genetic algorithm (GA) technique for training of a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) controller to achieve a compact network and to decrease battery charging time on a cost-effective RISC microcontroller. The suitable input-output data were selected from GA mechanism to establish GRNN. The computational complexity of GRNN can be reduced replaced by some simple polynomial forms. As a consequence, the fast charging device for nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries can be efficiently implemented on a low-cost 16F876A RISC microcontroller. Experimental results are shown to demonstrate superiority of the proposed system
