Size-Dependent Strength Superiority in Multi-Principal Element Alloys Versus Constituent Metals: Insights from Machine Learning Potential and Embedded-Atom Model

Multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs) are renowned for their enhanced mechanical strength compared to their constituent metals, as evidenced by various experimental techniques such as tension/compression tests and instrumental indentation. Nevertheless, atomistic simulations sometimes produce conflicting results, casting doubt on the consistently superior mechanical properties of MPEAs. To address these discrepancies, we develop new machine-learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) for body-centered cubic refractory MoNbTaW MPEAs, supported by a comprehensive dataset that encompasses extensive defects. We also benchmark the established embedded-atom model (EAM) potential against this dataset and our new MLIPs. Our simulations, covering diverse MoNbTaW compositions, confirm that both MLIPs and EAM accurately capture the critical strengthening mechanisms associated with plastic deformation in MPEAs. Utilizing the EAM potential, we perform reliable large-scale atomistic simulations to investigate various plastic mechanisms. Our findings suggest that generally, MPEAs exhibit superior mechanical strength compared to their constituent metals in macroscale specimens, primarily due to solid solution strengthening and dislocation motion. However, at the nanoscale where plasticity is mainly governed by dislocation nucleation and grain boundary deformation, the constituent metals may outperform MPEAs. This study identifies a critical length scale above which MPEAs demonstrate enhanced mechanical strength relative to their constituent elements. Below this scale, the advantage diminishes, underscoring a significant size-dependent effect that is crucial for optimizing MPEA applications, particularly at the nanoscale. © 2024, The Authors. Blood is vital for transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to all body parts as it circulates through arteries and veins. It removes carbon dioxide, regulates body temperature, and maintains the body's immune system. Individuals constantly need blood and its derivatives to save their lives and improve their health through medical treatments and surgical operations. Liver diseases are one of the diseases that affects the health of individuals and requires blood to continue living. These diseases cause significant damage to people's health, and early diagnosis plays a crucial role in saving lives. In this paper, machine learning algorithms (support vector machine and random forest) are involved in detecting liver diseases and determining whether donors are suitable to donate blood from blood values. This paper is applied research that found that the performance measures of the random forest algorithm achieved excellent performance in identifying suitable people to donate blood.

Abstract: The influence of the type of active gas and the ratio of the concentration of the components of the CF4 + Ar, Cl2 + Ar, and HBr + Ar mixtures on the parameters of the plasma, steady-state concentrations of the active particles, and kinetics of reactive-ion etching of SiO2 is investigated. It is demonstrated that the rate of etching SiO2 decreases in the CF4–Cl2–HBr series and is characterized by nonmonotonic (with the maximum at 20–25% Ar) behaviour under the variation of the initial composition of the mixtures. It is found that the reasons for the nonmonotonicity for each of the mixtures are the increased effective probability of the interaction and decreased yield of etching due to the change in the physical parameters of the plasma and densities of the fluxes of the active particles. © 2020, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The field of mobile robotics is a rapidly evolving space with a constant stream of new advancements. As the available technology matures and new features get accessible for lower prices, the scope of applicability for autonomous mobile robots naturally expands. Apart from simple home appliances, a particular area that currently attracts a surge of transformative research is that of industrial facilities and intelligent factories. A higher emphasis is gradually being placed on autonomous operations, where mobile robots start being suitable complements to human workers. Such an application, however, requires complex mechanisms to be able to handle even simple tasks, such as transferring cargo from one place to another while navigating a changing environment and avoiding dynamic obstacles. Robust localization and navigation solutions utilizing the most effective algorithms are necessary for such long and continuous operations that require a high degree of reliability and low error rates. Robot Operating system (ROS) is a highly flexible open-source framework enjoying wide adoption over the years. Its next-generation implementation (ROS2), together with the Navigation2 project (created as a successor to the original ROS Navigation Stack ), provide substantial conceptual enhancements with a strong focus on reliability, security, and performance, promising better compatibility with numerous sensor types, higher modularity, and a more controllable deterministic behavior. This paper will guide the reader through necessary steps to deploy the Navigation2 stack onto an existing custom-built ROS2-operating robotic test-bed platform, serving as a concept for future research.

omplex data classification is a very important research topic in the field of data mining, which has been a wide concern for a long time. In recent years, with the rapid development of information technology, the research on complex data classification is full of opportunities and challenges. The present paper proposes a new complex data classification technique that addresses the challenge of classification accuracy, time consuming. This method is also designed to be more straightforward for programming unlike more intricate methods such as the fuzzy min-max classifier. Our novel approach is structured around two main phases: the initial phase focuses on prototypes creation and noise elimination, while the subsequent phase involves merging prototypes into classes. Each prototype is represented by its centroid, and outliers are identified and filtered out based on their distance from neighbors. The merging phase, iteratively combines the closest prototypes until the desired number of classes is achieved. The proposed algorithm is compared to the K-means, the fuzzy C-means, the competitive neural networks and the fuzzy min-max classifier methods through a number of simulations. The proposed approach demonstrates promising results, outperforming established methods in terms of classification accuracy and computational efficiency. The integration of innovative strategies for prototype creation, noise elimination, and class merging distinguishes our approach, making it a valuable contribution to the field of complex data classification © 2024, The Authors. The paper deals with a comparison of initial ideas of the Industry 4.0 activities and the state of the art of recent development of industrial production. Authors demonstrate their professional opinion that standardization of production procedures, communication technologies based on IoT and IIoT, TSN networks, OPC UA protocols, interfaces, new control architectures, cyber security principles, and methods, are the most important background for success in a serious step into the 4th industrial revolution. Authors shortly specify the basic activities in the very up-to-date production in the I4.0 fashion. Next, they explain, in more detail, the basic principle of totally decentralized control fashion, due to high intelligent components of the I4.0 production, hence the I4.0 components. For this purpose, the authors concentrate their attention on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) as the digital twin from the I4.0 point of view. They provide recommendations in the creation of AAS for any production component. All remarks and recommendations are in conformance with the intention and solution of standardization gremium of Europe, the German-based Platform Industrie 4.0 (ZVEI, VDI/VDE, Bitcom), the Alliance Industrie du Futur in France, and the Piano Industria 4.0 in Italy.

The paper deals with appropriate possibilities, instrumentation, and technologies for purposes of education, presentation, teaching and research, and development of technologies and procedures of Industry 4.0 ideas, and their implementation in case studies of Factories of the Future. Through the physical module-based production lines of a FESTO Didactic company authors present technologies, standards, and principles of Industry 4.0. They are persuaded, that after some years of simple presentation of ideas and visions, it is necessary to provide a step from theory to the praxis of the Industry 4.0 technologies in the fully standardized matter. Paper presents a state of the art of an enhanced Experimental Education production line, the Cyber-Physical (CP) Factory of the company Festo Didactic. They show existing properties of the technology, stemming from 2016, its disadvantages and provide a proposal on how to enhance CP Factory towards a physical system, implementing and providing properties of fully decentralized control of automatic production systems in a standardized way.

Transformation of low-volatility gaseous precursors to new particles affects aerosol number concentration,cloud formation and hence the *** clustering of acid and base molecules is a major mechanism driving fast nucleation and initial growth of new particles in the ***,the acid-base cluster composition,measured using state-of-the-art mass spectrometers,cannot explain the measured high formation rate of new *** we present strong evidence for the existence of base molecules such as amines in the smallest atmospheric sulfuric acid clusters prior to their detection by mass *** demonstrate that forming（H2SO4）1（amine）1is the rate-limiting step in atmospheric H2SO4-amine nucleation and the uptake of（H2SO4）1（amine）1is a major pathway for the initial growth of *** proposed mechanism is very consistent with measured new particle formation in urban Beijing,in which dimethylamine is the key base for H2SO4nucleation while other bases such as ammonia may contribute to the growth of larger *** findings further underline the fact that strong amines,even at low concentrations and when undetected in the smallest clusters,can be crucial to particle formation in the planetary boundary layer.

In this article, an adaptive event-triggered asymp¬totically fault-tolerant control (FTC) issue for nonlinear systems with actuator faults is investigated. An extended neural networks (NNs) technique is introduced to estimate unknown functions of the system under consideration. Compared with traditional NNs that ignore approximation errors, the proposed extended NNs further processes approximation errors, reducing the conservatism of the proposed algorithm. Then, within the framework of backstepping method, a new adaptive control strategy is developed by combining event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and bound estimation (BE) approach, which ensures the asymptotic convergence of system states while also reducing the transmission of unnecessary information, thus improving the utilization of communication resources. At the same time, the designed controller eliminates the adverse effects of actuator failures and system nonlinear terms. Finally, a simulation example of a single-link robot system is provided to demonstrate that the developed control strategy can ensure that all signals are bounded and system states are asymptotically convergent.

controlling the temperature in chemical reactors, heating furnaces, distillation columns, and reboilers for circulating heatin g fluids is crucial across all industries. This project is a simulation-based study where both PID-cascade and fractional order PID (FO-PID) controllers were used to control the temperature of water in the continuously stirred tank heater system. The simulation was designed by using SIMULINK. Initially, the work reproduces results from a previous study that evaluated the performance of PID cascade controller applied for controlling the temperature of continuous stirred tank heater. Building on this foundat ion, a novel fractional-order PID (FO-PID) controller was designed and its parameters were optimized using the Whale Optimizer Algorithm (WOA). Results showed that the FO-PID outperforms the PID-cascade controller in terms of settling time and percentage overshoot. This study demonstrates significant advancements in process innovation and optimization, supporting sustainable industrial systems. The FO-PID controller in comparison to the Cascade PID controller reduced the percentage overshoot by approximately 97%, reduced settling time by 87% and maintained comparable steady-state error.
