In this paper, a PMU-based real-time Distribution system State Estimation (DSSE) platform is developed. The platform applies Forecasting-Aided State Estimator (FASE) to utilize the benefits of the process model. Two of the pre-estimation methods, namely the conventional-, and the improvedinnovation analysis, are implemented and compared to each other in the applied Anomaly Detection, Discrimination and Identification (ADDI) module. The module is used to classify the anomalies into either bad data due to erroneous measurements, or sudden variation of the system state due to sudden load or renewable generation change. Once an anomaly is classified, the ADDI attempts to identify either the PMU corrupted with bad data or most likely the location that drives sudden change of the state. The platform is tested using an actual 50 kV ring network of Enduris medium voltage grid located in the Netherlands, which is simulated using a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). Finally, the necessity of using the ADDI module against possible disturbances in real-life networks has been pointed out. The results showed that the average execution time for FASE coupled with ADDI can be adequately fast for the rapid refresh rate of PMUs under normal and abnormal conditions, particularly the bad data. © 2022, The Authors. Wide use and availability of machine learning and computer vision techniques allows development of relatively complex monitoring systems in many domains. Besides the traditional industrial domain, new applications appears also in biology and agriculture, where they may be used to detect infections, parasites and weeds, but also for automated monitoring and early warning systems. This goes in concordance with the introduction of the easily accessible hardware and development kits such as the Arduino, or RaspberryPi families. In this paper, we survey 50 papers focusing on the methods of automated beehive monitoring using computer vision techniques. Particularly on the pollen and Varroa mite detection together with the bee traffic monitoring. Such systems could also be used for monitoring of honeybee colonies and for the inspection of their health state, which could potentially identify dangerous states before the situation is critical, or to better plan periodic bee colony inspections and therefore save significant costs. Further on, we also include analysis of the research trends in this application field and we outline the possible directions of new development. Our paper is also aimed at veterinary and apidology professionals and experts, who may not be familiar with machine learning to introduce them to its capabilities, hence each family of techniques is prefaced by a brief theoretical introduction and motivation related to its base method. We hope that this paper will inspire other scientists to use machine learning techniques for other applications in beehive monitoring. © 2022, CC BY.

Input Shaping/Time-Delay Filtering is now an established approach for shaping reference inputs to minimize residual vibrations for rest-to-rest maneuvers, velocity and periodic tracking controllers, and to minimize excitation of high frequency unmodelled modes. At the core of successful reference shaping approaches have been the encapsulation of robustness to model parameter uncertainties. Special attention has also been paid to incorporation of the input shapers within closed loops of various configurations. This paper reviews existing designs for input shaping and highlights some of the latest contributions related to input shaping for precision motion control.

This paper presents an innovative multi-terrain amphibious robot that imitates the amphibian animals' locomotion ability for both onshore and offshore performances. The robot can roll on-land, swim in-water, submerge underwater, and crawl on the sea floor. The robot consists of a spherical body and an outer jacket shell with multiple tiny channels that function similar to the wheel tread while on-land and perform as the paddle when in-water. The proposed robot have superior capability that other conventional robots could not achieve. The robot could travel on multiple terrains such as rolling on soft ground, floating in-water, and maneuvering underwater. This research utilizes the Omni-directional wheel, and the propeller system for locomotion and movement control. The proposed system has been implemented to develop a prototypical multi-terrains amphibious robot, and the initial experimental results also demonstrate the capability of such a robot design. © Newswood *** right reserved.

This paper presents the new method to classify the condition of electrical equipment such as main circuit breaker, magnetic contactor, in term of thermal radiation effect using infrared thermography. The conventional neural network (CNN) is one of deep learning method which is widely used in pattern recognition and object detection. In this paper, the thermal image processing was used to determine the critical temperature on equipment and, the deep learning technology was applied to identify the type of equipment. Therefore, we can know the condition with the type of electrical equipment for maintenance purpose in real-time. An accuracy of our method is 91% for identifying type of equipment. This technique can be implemented to an automatic alarm annunciation system for other dangerous equipment with sensitive to thermal as well. © 2019 Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Medical Sciences. A new scheme for producing semidiscrete self-trapped vortices ("swirling photon droplets") in photonic crystals with competing quadratic (χ(2)) and self-defocusing cubic (χ(3)) nonlinearities is proposed. The photonic crystal is designed with a striped structure, in the form of spatially periodic modulation of the χ(2) susceptibility, which is imposed by the quasi-phase-matching technique. Unlike previous realizations of semidiscrete optical modes in composite media, built as combinations of continuous and arrayed discrete waveguides, the semidiscrete vortex "droplets" are produced here in the fully continuous medium. This work reveals that the system supports two types of semidiscrete vortex droplets, viz., onsite- and intersite-centered ones, which feature, respectively, odd and even numbers of stripes, N. Stability areas for the states with different values of N are identified in the system's parameter space. Some stability areas overlap with each other, giving rise to the multistability of states with different N. The coexisting states are mutually degenerate, featuring equal values of the Hamiltonian and propagation constant. An experimental scheme to realize the droplets is outlined, suggesting new possibilities for the long-distance transmission of nontrivial vortex beams in nonlinear media. © 2023, CC BY.

This scientific contribution presents current results of cooperation focused on the automatic billet straightening machine development. An experimental study of three-point bending is shortly presented to explain basic ideas of the straightening. Main variants of straightening are briefly described. This paper introduces the feasibility examination of indoor positioning system using the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and the radio-frequency identification (RFID) devices to further apply in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease leading an unusual human body motion. Experimentally, a BLE module and a RFID tag are simulated to be the wearable devices mounted to human body, moving with common body motions. Their movements affecting on position tracking efficiency are investigated through smartphone and ultra-high frequency RFID reader, respectively. The results show that a BLE device presents the best position sensing ability. © 2019 IEEE.

Over time, our lives turn to digitization and technology and its multiple applications and uses. The smart city, its technologies and the services provided during it have become a way of life. The idea of smart cities relied on different mechanisms to provide reliable services. One of the important technologies is the blockchain that has proven to be extremely reliable and has a high security level technology. This paper presents a mechanism to explain the application of blockchain technology in smart contracts, how to increase reliability, data security, and many positive benefits as part of the multiple services provided by the smart city environment. This paper also provides important details about this technology and its impact on the overall administrative system of any service provided by smart governments. The paper dealt with an example of how to manage the real estate rental file electronically to explain the advantages of blockchain technology through which we overcome existing problems in this type of contract and service.

In this paper, the Lie group theory is used to estimate the position and attitude of a mobile robot. In the proposed method, a Kalman filter (KF) is implemented in a Lie group, specifically in a two-dimensional special Euclidean group SE(2). Position and attitude are represented as variables in SE(2). State transition is modeled using the exponential of the Lie algebra se(2), which corresponds to SE(2). Covariance of the estimates and correction of the predicted state are calculated using Lie algebra se(2). The performance of the proposed method is tested by conducting a simulation and is compared with the conventional extended KF, where Cartesian space coordinates and heading angle are used as state variables. The test results verify that the proposed method provides estimates that have smaller errors than those provided by the conventional extended KF. The Kalman gain and measurement innovation of the proposed method have superior convergence performance than the usual extended KF. © ICROS 2020.
