Increasing Safety and Reliability of Roll-back and Roll-forward Lockstep Technique for Use in Real-time systems

This work focuses on the roll-back and roll-forward lockstep architecture that are techniques to detect faults like SEU, voltage dips or another impacting to system misbehaviour. These techniques are explored using FMEA analysis and on its basis, some propose is presented that improves reliability and safety of each technique. In this case, availability is lowered as a trade of higher reliability and safety. These techniques are also explored from the point of view using in real-time systems. On this basis, some recommendations of appropriate checkpointing in lockstep roll-back technique is presented. © 2016

Impulse response approximation of dead time LTI SISO systems using generalized Laguerre functions

The article describes the use of generalized Laguerrre functions for impulse response approximation of systems with dead time. It states some connections between the size of the dead time and the values of free parameters of generalized Laguerre functions. It compares the approximation error with generalized Laguerre functions and with simple Laggerre functions.

This paper deals with usage of single-chip computers for controlling MIMO systems. The aim is to design a general control system, which is easy to use and easy to implement for other MIMO systems. The performance of control system is limited by the performance of used MCU (PIC 16F876A) and its peripherals (2×PWM, 8×A/D, MAC, ...). The key tasks of MCU are communication with upper level and implementation of required control action together with data collection. The serial interface provides communication between control system (PC) and MCU. SCADA/HMI system monitors a controlled system. The application is accessible via Internet browser in local area network (LAN).

Cancer is a term used to refer to a large set of diseases. The cancerous cells grow and divide and, as a result, they form tumours that grow in size. The immune system recognise the cancerous cells and attack them, though, it can be weakened by the cancer. One type of cancer treatment is chemotherapy, which uses drugs to kill cancer cells. Clinical, experimental, and theoretical research has been developed to understand the dynamics of cancerous cells with chemotherapy treatment, as well as the interaction between tumour growth and immune system. We study a mathematical model that describes the cancer growth, immune system response, and chemotherapeutic agents. The immune system is composed of resting cells that are converted to hunting cells to combat the cancer. In this work, we consider drug sensitive and resistant cancer cells. We show that the tumour growth can be controlled not only by means of different chemotherapy protocols, but also by the immune system that attacks both sensitive and resistant cancer cells. Furthermore, for all considered protocols, we demonstrate that the time delay from resting to hunting cells plays a crucial role in the combat against cancer cells. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Infections can lead to persistent symptoms and diseases such as shingles after varicella zoster or rheumatic fever after streptococcal infections. Similarly, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) infection can result in long coronavirus disease (COVID), typically manifesting as fatigue, pulmonary symptoms and cognitive dysfunction. The biological mechanisms behind long COVID remain unclear. We performed a genome-wide association study for long COVID including up to 6,450 long COVID cases and 1,093,995 population controls from 24 studies across 16 countries. We discovered an association of FOXP4 with long COVID, independent of its previously identified association with severe COVID-19. The signal was replicated in 9,500 long COVID cases and 798,835 population controls. Given the transcription factor FOXP4’s role in lung physiology and pathology, our findings highlight the importance of lung function in the pathophysiology of long COVID. © The Author(s) 2025.

How to explain Model Predictive control (MPC) to students? How to practise it? The paper deals with chain of actions involving teaching, practicing and laboratory application of MPC at University of Pardubice in Czech Republic and at Anna University in India. Individual steps are presented and discussed with examples from educational experience - e.g. modelling and identification, derivation of MPC controller, simulations and laboratory applications. Every phase has a key and weak point as well. Desired results is that students understand better the theoretical concepts and they are able to apply predictive controllers at least for laboratory processes. Derivations and MATLAB scripts are available online. © 2016

We analyze exclusion zones (EZs) for indoor environments in nuclear power plants and compare them with the EZ in free space. When an indoor environment is considered, the lower transmitted power is recommended since multiple reflections increases stronger scattered power. The EZ area is the widest when the transmitter is at the center of the I&C room.

This paper deals with a description of systems with a human operator - the MMS systems and their reliability. Reliability of these systems is given by technical reliability and reliability of a human operator. Using a modern approach - the Monte Carlo reliability analysis for reliability analysis of systems MMS is main goal of this paper. This method is explained at a fundamental level with emphasis on its application to reliability analysis of MMS systems. The last part of this paper presents an example of MMS reliability analysis using Monte Carlo reliability analysis. © 2016

This paper deals with an interaction between human and controlled element called MMS (Man-Machine systems) and presents a methodology of measurements, evaluation and modelling of human behavior using modern simulation and computation technologies and statistical methods. For this purpose, mathematical models of human behavior must be described. Based on these models can be evaluated actual state of human abilities in terms of dynamic properties, e.g. reaction delay, adaption on controlled element ability, etc. These abilities expressed by the model parameters and their changes in time are observed. The nature of this approach is data acquisition and processing from a real environment. This data are obtained from flight simulator at Brno University of Defense where two sets of test measurements with real pilots were realized. © 2016
