In case of changing a communication between field instruments and controller from analog signal into digital signal or of changing a model of plant, performance of controller is degraded because of the fixed controller parameters such as PID controller. To solve this problem, a self-tuning PID controller is proposed. One of a popular self-tuning method is self-tuning fuzzy. Many researchers have been presented the self-tuning fuzzy PID controller. In this paper, we present implementing of self-tuning fuzzy PI controller for flow control system. Both fuzzy and PI controller is implemented on distributed control system (DCS) as controller at which communication between field instruments and distributed control system is via both the analog input and output modules as analog signal in range of 4-20mA and digital signal as Profibus PA. The PI controller parameters, proportional gain and integral time, from auto-tuning method is used to control plant, flow control system, by using analog signal at which result shows that flow process variable reaches to flow set point. The same PI controller parameters is applied for PROFIBUS PA at which results shows that flow process variable oscillates because of effect of delay-time taken place from communication between field instruments and distributed control system.

The paper focuses on development of a control system for an electrodynamic exciter used in vibration testing. There is described one of the possible ways to generate sine sweep and random testing signals based on filtering the control value with an inverse filter created from frequency response of an exciter. The system is designed to be universal, that wide range of components within control loop, as piezoelectric accelerometers and electrodynamic shakers, can be utilized. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper presents the design of low-cost planar near-field to far-field measurement system for a small antenna and small scattering objects. This work is proposed to accurately and precisely measure the electromagnetic (EM) wave scattered from a small object. The minimum scanning resolution of the proposed system is 0.5 cm per step in horizontal and vertical directions. In order to design the proposed measurement system, the low-cost stepping motor is employed to drive the near-field probe. The proposed system is controlled by a microcontroller Chipkit UN032 by interfacing with the LabView graphic user interface (GUI) to control and display the actual position of the near-field probe. The maximum scanning area of the developed system is 50×50 cm~2. The position error measurement of the proposed system is also investigated. Moreover, the preliminary far-field results from simulated near-field and measured near-field are compared. Both simulated and measured results are obtained by the proposed NF-to-FF mathematical transformation program. It is observed that the results from the proposed planar near-field to far-field measurement system is in good agreement with the simulation.

This paper discusses the implementation of greenhouse climate control simulator based upon dynamic model with intuitive user interface that provides various options to simulate greenhouse climate under open and closed loop control conditions. The simplified greenhouse climate model based upon mass and energy balance principle, encapsulates the realistic situations in a greenhouse to simulate and analyze the effect of different control strategies (shading, ventilation, cooling or heating) on inside climate for various greenhouse design configurations and under different weather conditions. The model is integrated with the proposed greenhouse-crop vapor pressure deficit (GH-crop VPD) based multi-input multi-output fuzzy climate controller that operates in feedforward mode and regulates greenhouse climate conducive for healthy plant growth and yield. Under closed loop operation, the controller automatically readjusts the operating status and rate of different climate control equipments (shade screen, roof vents, exhaust fan, cooling system and heating system) and simulates automatic control of GH-crop VPD within set limits irrespective of the variations in outside weather conditions. Designed as an educational tool, the simulator was used under open loop to demonstrate how for a selected greenhouse design and weather conditions, different climate control strategies affect greenhouse climate conditions. Multiple simulations run under different scenarios were simultaneously displayed for comparison study and analysis. Further, the closed loop simulations were performed that indicated high performance of the controller in regulating GH-crop VPD under different hot weather conditions and depicted what systems (rate and operating status of different climate control equipments) would be needed to meet desired conditions. © 2015 Asian Agricultural and Biological engineering Association.

Gliomas are the most common primary brain malignancies, with different degrees of aggressiveness, variable prognosis and various heterogeneous histologic sub-regions, i.e., peritumoral edematous/invaded tissue, necrotic core, active and non-enhancing core. This intrinsic heterogeneity is also portrayed in their radio-phenotype, as their sub-regions are depicted by varying intensity profiles disseminated across multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) scans, reflecting varying biological properties. Their heterogeneous shape, extent, and location are some of the factors that make these tumors difficult to resect, and in some cases inoperable. The amount of resected tumor is a factor also considered in longitudinal scans, when evaluating the apparent tumor for potential diagnosis of progression. Furthermore, there is mounting evidence that accurate segmentation of the various tumor sub-regions can offer the basis for quantitative image analysis towards prediction of patient overall survival. This study assesses the state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) methods used for brain tumor image analysis in mpMRI scans, during the last seven instances of the International Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) challenge, i.e., 2012-2018. Specifically, we focus on i) evaluating segmentations of the various glioma sub-regions in pre-operative mpMRI scans, ii) assessing potential tumor progression by virtue of longitudinal growth of tumor sub-regions, beyond use of the RECIST/RANO criteria, and iii) predicting the overall survival from pre-operative mpMRI scans of patients that underwent gross total resection. Finally, we investigate the challenge of identifying the best ML algorithms for each of these tasks, considering that apart from being diverse on each instance of the challenge, the multi-institutional mpMRI BraTS dataset has also been a continuously evolving/growing dataset. Vibrations being induced on a main structure due to fluctuating force disturbances are suppressed in this study using Delayed Resonator (DR) (N. Olgac, M. Hosek, 1997), with the added challenges that the corresponding system characteristic equation is of neutral type with two independent delays, where one delay must be tuned as per DR and the other is uncertain due to remote communication delays. In this study, a type of Rekasisus transformation with frequency sweeping approach is adopted along with D-subdivision theorem for the stability analysis of the LTI vibration control problem with respect to uncertain delay and controller gains, while keeping the tuned delay fixed, similar to that in (Cooke and van den Driessche, 1986a). Reactor TRIGA PUSPATI (RTP) Mark II type undergoes safe operation for more than 30 years and the only research reactor exists in Malaysia. The main safety feature of instrumentation and control (I&C) system design is such that any failure in the electronic, or its associated components, does not lead to an uncontrolled rate of reactivity. The existed controller using feedback approach to control the reactor power. This paper introduces proposed controllers such as Model Reference Adaptive control (MRAC) and Proportional Integral Derivatives (PID) controller for the RTP simulation. In RTP, the most important considered parameter is the reactor power and act as nervous system. To design a controller for complex plant like RTP is quite difficult due to high cost and safety factors cause by the failure of the controller. Furthermore, to overcome these problems, a simulator can be used to replace functions the hardware and test could then be simulated using this simulator. In order to find the best controller, several controllers were proposed and the result will be analysed for study the performances of the controller. The output result will be used to find out the best RTP power controller using MATLAB/Simulink and gives result as close as the real RTP performances. Currently, the structures of RTP was design using MATLAB/Simulink tool that consist of fission chamber, controller, control rod position, height-to-worth of control rods and a RTP model. The controller will control the control rod position to make sure that the reactivity still under the limitation parameter. The results given from each controller will be analysed and validated through experiment data collected from RTP.

This paper proposes a method for computing a polyhedral invariant set of linear parameter varying systems in the presence of input and state constraints. The main idea is to add iteratively additional constraints until invariance is obtained. In order to deal with the specific non-convex structure of the one-step state prediction tubes arising in LPV contexts, a convexification procedure is used. © 2015 IEEE.

In this tutorial presentation we focus on the construction of Lyapunov or storage functions for large-scale networked control systems (NCSs) in which sensors, controllers and actuators are connected via multiple (local) communication networks which operate asynchronously and independently of each other. Within each packet-based communication network only one node can communicate at a given transmission time (requiring communication protocols) and the transmission intervals and delays may vary over time. These artefacts cause network-induced communication errors in the overal closed-loop system and can be detrimental for stability and performance. For these NCSs we provide explicit constructions of Lyapunov functions by modelling the large-scale NCS as an interconnection of a finite or even an infinite number of hybrid subsystems, and combining 'local' Lyapunov functions for the controlled dynamics (including network-induced errors) and the protocols in a systematic manner. These constructions lead to the numerical computation of maximum allowable transmission intervals (MATIs) and maximum allowable delays (MADs) for each of the individual networks. The availability of the Lyapunov or storage functions guarantee properties such as global asymptotic or exponential stability, input-to-state stability (ISS) and, L_p-stability for the large-scale NCS. Interestingly, the control performance expressed in terms of ISS and L_p-gains can be traded with the network parameters (MATIs and MADs). Hence, tradeoffs can be made between the quality-of-control of the overal hybrid system and the required quality-of-service of the underlying communication infrastructure. Also event-triggered communication schemes will be shortly discussed. The results are illustrated with an example of vehicle platooning.

In this paper, Fault Diagnosis and Fault Tolerant control algorithms are proposed to compensate for a bias type sensor fault applied on the quadrotor vehicle. A novel output estimator design called intelligent Output-Estimator (iOE) is introduced to detect and isolate the sensor fault. The estimation of the fault magnitude is done through a proposed structured algorithm that senses the maximum error deviation between the output estimation and the measured outputs. Then the fault compensation is achieved by regenerating the desired path. Real-flight results validated the proposed algorithms and showed the sensor fault accommodation process.
