In this paper, a method for design of linear decentralized robust controllers for a class of uncertain large-scale systems in general form is presented. For a given large-scale system, an equivalent descriptor system in input-output decentralized form is defined. Using this representation, closed-loop diagonal dominance sufficient conditions are derived. It is shown that by appropriately minimizing the weighted sensitivity function of each isolated subsystem, these conditions are achieved. Solving the appropriately defined H∞local problem for each isolated uncertain subsystem, the interactions between the subsystems are reduced, and the overall stability and robust performance are achieved in spite of uncertainties. The designs are illustrated by a practical example.

Most of small-scale combustion devices firing biomass use control algorithms designed on the basis of an empirical experience. Very often, the on-off strategy is applied for heat output control linked with repetitive starts of the burning process which may be linked with some undesirable effects especially as far as emissions and efficiency are concerned. There are more reasons why such control solutions are preferred in practice, but one of the most evident is the difficulty of modeling biomass combustion processes which are strongly dependent on the fuel properties and its variability. Appraisal of both model based and model free methods in the controller design was the object of investigations we carried out on an experimental small-scale water heating boiler firing wood chips of various quality. Results from testing suitability of a model intended for both simulation and control design are reported in this paper completed with some other pieces of knowledge from ecological operation of biomass boilers. Usage of the model will be demonstrated on the model-based control algorithm.

When a gas is passed over a thin film sensor, its electrical properties like resistance/conductance, capacitance change due to diffusion of the gas. These changes can be studied by simulating the sensor response on giving a step change in the gas concentration. It is sometimes difficult to select an appropriate model for simulating the sensor response. This paper presents simulation of two models viz. the DC model or the Device Conductance Model and the AC model for three input gases, Methanol, Acetone and Ethyl Acetate. For the same step input, the percentage change in response for both models for change in conductance is observed. The DC model exhibits a higher percentage change in conductance than the AC model.

Traditional way of communication on the Internet is human (or human-made content) to another human. Another frequent alternative is device-made content to human or another device, which is often referred to as The Internet of Things. This paper focuses on the whole design of embedded telemetry device based on microcontroller system, which uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol for remote data presentation. Proposed solution also allows for data logging and processing. For added reliability, solution proposed in this paper is equipped with uninterrupted power supply module. A 500-N deadweight force standard machine(DWM) has been developed for calibrating force proving instrument of small force ranges at National Institute of Metrology, Thailand(NIMT). The DWM is able to generate calibration forces ranging from 2 N to 500 N with the relative expanded uncertainty of 5×10-5. This machine can be divided into six calibration ranges, which are 10 N, 20 N, 50 N, 100 N, 200 N and 500 N. To verify performance of the machine, this paper shows the evaluation of relative uncertainty in the range of 50 N to 500 N. The force transducer was calibrated by the machine according to ISO376:2011[1]. The calibration result of force transducers has shown repeatability and reproducibility. The relative deviation of the calibration errors were less than 5×10-5 at the 50 % to 100 % of the capacity of force transducer.

Currently there is no reliable mechanism available to allow continuous monitoring of all process conditions and leather characteristics inside the closed reactors during leather processing, so no real control. Conditions inside the reactors can only be monitored by stopping the reactor to sample the solution and leather. The automation systems for leather industry rely on stale centralised architecture, a critical point of failure imposing operational bottleneck. To improve the efficiency of leather manufacturing process the paper proposes a multi-agent system (MAS) architecture that is fault tolerant, and that provides high flexibility and agility needed by the turbulent environment of leather industry.
