This paper deals with proprietary communication protocols that are implemented in the MikroTik RouterOS operating system. These communication protocols are specially designed for remote management of embedded systems that run with this operating system. These protocols are closed and thus they have not a publicly accessible documentation. In this paper the principles of their functions that are identified on the basis of realized communication analyses are described. Security risks that are associated with the use of these communication protocols are also analyzed in the paper. Attack that uses conceptual bug in the design one of these communication protocols is demonstrated on a real example. Full and unlimited access to embedded system that runs with this operating system can be obtained with this attack.

The dynamics characterisation and modelling of a flexible cantilever (fixed-free) beam in transverse motion is presented in this paper. Finite Difference (FD) numerical analysis method is used to simulate the vibration of flexible cantilever beam system. The FD algorithm developed is validated through comparison of its natural frequencies of vibration with the theoretical values. Using input-output data obtained via FD simulation, nonparametric system identification of the flexible beam using intelligent Neural Network (NN) and Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference system (ANFIS) are developed. Results indicated a comparable performance of both intelligent algorithms in modelling the flexible beam. The simulation environments produced in this research can later be utilised as a platform for development and verification of an active vibration control of the flexible cantilever beam. © 2012 IEEE.

Precise control of Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (EHA) system has been a challenging task due to nonlinearities, time varying characteristics and uncertainties of the system. A controller can be designed when given accurate model of the system. This paper presents the process to obtain an EHA system's model using system identification approach. system identification process has merit in obtaining system model as it requires only input and output data pairs from the system. Validation of the model is done by comparing the performance with the actual EHA system. A PID controller is later designed based on model obtained for accurate position tracking of the system. Simulation result and real time experiment show that the system which is applied with the proposed controller is able to perform position tracking with high accuracy. © 2012 IEEE.

The fabrication of diamond-like carbon (DLC) micro-gear by room temperature curing nanoimprint lithography (RTC-NIL) using glass-like carbon (GC) molds as applications to the DLC-based medical MEMS (Micro Electronic Mechanical systems) was investigated. The DLC film which has excellent properties similar to chemical vapor deposited (CVD) diamond films was used as the patterning material. We propose GC as mold material because GC has higher etching selectivity than a diamond film. The etching selectivity of polysiloxane film against a GC substrate is about 5 times as high as that of a diamond film. Therefore we fabricated the GC molds that have micro-gear patterns with 30 µm-tip diameter and 500 nm-tooth thickness. We carried out the RTC-NIL process using the GC micro-gear molds under the following optimum conditions. 1 min-time from spin-coating to imprint: t1, 0.5 MPa-imprinting pressure: P and 5 min-holding time: t2, and then the imprinted polysiloxane pattern on DLC film was processed with an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) oxygen ion shower. However, we were not able to fabricate micro-gear patterns in high accuracy because of a remaining residual layer on the DLC film. Therefore we propose the removing process for the residual layer with trifluoromethane (CHF3) ion shower under the optimum conditions of 300 eV-ion energy and 4 min-etching time. As a result, we succeeded to fabricate concave DLC-based micro-gear patterns in high accuracy which has 30 µm-tip diameter and 1 µm-depth.

As an application to the nanoemitter, we investigated the nanofabrication of diamond-like carbon (DLC)-dot arrays by room-temperature curing imprint-liftoff (RTCIL) method using aluminum mask. The DLC film which has excellent properties similar to diamond properties was used as the patterning material. A polished glass like carbon (GC) was used as a mold material. The polysiloxane in the state of sticky liquid at room temperature and stable in air exhibits a negative-exposure characteristics. Therefore, the polysiloxane was used as electron beam (EB) resist and oxide mask material in EB lithography, and also used as RTC-imprint resist material. An aluminum was used as oxide metal mask material of liftoff. We have fabricated the GC mold of dot arrays with 5 µm-square and 500 nm-height. We carried out the RTCIL process using the GC mold under the following optimum imprint conditions: 0.5 MPa-imprinting pressure and 5 min- holding time. Aluminum film on the imprinted polysiloxane was prepared by vacuum evaporation method and its thickness is 20 nm. Finally, the polysiloxane patterns were removed with acetone and aluminum mask patterns were fabricated. We found that the maximum etching selectivity of aluminum film against DLC film was as high as 35, which was obtained under an ion energy of 400 eV. Then we processed the patterned aluminum on DLC film with an ECR oxygen ion shower. We fabricated DLC-dot arrays with 5 µm-square and 400 nm-height with an aspect ratio of 0.08.

The objectives of this paper are to demonstrate the use of a combination of artificial neural network and robust principal components (RPCs-ANN) to predict the soluble solid content of intact pineapple, non-invasively, based on near infrared spectral data, and to compare the performance of RPCs-ANN with artificial neural network based on classical principal components (PCs-ANN). First, we implemented second order derivative with first order Savitzky-Golay (SG) smoothing filter to pre-process the spectral data. Second, robust and classical principal component analysis approaches were utilized to reduce the dimension of spectral data and to produce robust principal components (RPCs) and principal components (PCs), respectively. Third, artificial neural network with RPCs as its inputs (RPCs-ANN) was trained based on Bayesian regularization to improve the generalization of the network by optimizing its regularization parameters. The effects of different number of inputs and hidden neurons are discussed. The findings suggest that RPCs-ANN is superior to PCs-ANN. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper presents the performance of system identification of a rectangular flexible plate structure using Least Squares, Recursive Least Squares and Genetic Algorithms techniques. The input - output data are collected through an experimental study using a vibrational flexible plate experimental rig complete with data acquisition and instrumentation system. The experimental rig of two clamped and two free edges (FFCC) flexible plate were fabricated and used throughout this research. All the models developed using Least Squares, Recursive Least Squares and Genetic Algorithms were validated using one step-ahead prediction (OSA), mean squared error (MSE) and correlation tests. It was found that the estimated models using all methods proposed are comparable, acceptable and possible to be used as a platform of controller development and verification to suppress the vibration of flexible plate structure in the future work. Amongst all, it was found that the Genetic Algorithm has performed the best as compared to other methods in estimating the first mode of vibration which is the dominant mode of the structure with 3.63% error. However, for overall estimation, the Least Squares algorithm has achieved the lowest mean squares error (0.00019725) as compared to the Recursive Least Squares and Genetic Algorithms performance. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper describes methods and experimental verification of losses in a ferromagnetic core of a sinusoidal filter SKY3FSM130-400 (130A/400V) powered with a frequency inverter. Two versions of the same filter are studied. It is the split core filter and a non-split core filter. The losses are verified with two different experimental methods and found to be in good agreement with the proposed simplified calculation method. It is found out that losses for a frequency inverter powered application are up to 2 times higher that losses causes only by the fundamental current harmonic component. © 2012 CZECH TECH UNIV.

To prevent striking of head to disc in servo track writing process, head velocity is controlled by ramp loading procedure for moving read/write head from ramp to disc surface properly. The author presents the approach to design load/unload algorithm for 2.5'' hard disk drive in SSTW process. The 2 Degree of Freedom PID control Structure has been applied instead of conventional PID for VCM velocity control. Furthermore;we use Characteristic Ratio Assignment Technique for adjusting PID parameters in order to obtain less overshoot in output response. The experimental results tested with self-servo track writer PH4LC unit have been shown that 2DOF PID algorithm can achieve the performance specification requirement and reducing HDI problem in load/unload control of 2.5'' hard disk drive, efficiently. © 2012 IEEE.

Besides its original use in the state space based design the pole assignment is also applied in tuning the PID controllers where only an approximate model is considered. However, the common assumption of time delay in this model imposes the limitation that only such pole prescription which results in the dominant pole assignment can be effective in tuning the control loop with time delay. The three parameter PID controller is capable to assign just three poles and a dominance guarantee of their prescription is crucial in the pole placement. A novel method of selecting a trio of numbers p 1,2,3 to make them the dominant poles of the control loop is dealt with in the paper with an additional minimizing the absolute error integral. The dominance of each of the placement trials is checked by an argument increment criterion and an optimum of relative damping of the response is assessed to minimize the control error integral. The disturbance rejection response as the critical point of view in time delay process control is taken as criterion in the controller design. Copyright © 2012 IFAC.
