The paper introduces an architecture of qualitative models for monitoring of the landscape development. There are introduced data model, class, state, sequence models, process, emergent and matroid models. The architecture and the interaction of models allows to form a global view to ecosystem needed for qualified assessment of human activities in landscape. The first goal of the paper is to model situations associated with violations of the Small Water Cycle (SWC) in the modeled ecosystem, and to contribute to formation of acceptable solutions. The second goal of the paper is to present qualitative models for monitoring the stability of the landscape development and to support approaches of integrated environmental modeling.

This paper presents the method to achieve the design MRAC PID control for fan and plate process. The fan and plate process is another challenged problem for control system design because it has non-linearity characteristic and highly sensitivity for ambient disturbance. Thus tuning of PID parameter performs hardly by root locus or trial & error method. The proposed method presents design methodology of auto-adjustable PID controller using MRAC technique for solving the problems. The adjustable PID parameters corresponding to changes in plant and disturbance will be determined by referring to the reference model specifying the properties of desired control system. Therefore, this technique is convenient to control the process for satisfying the requirement of the system performance. © 2011 SICE.

The electrostatic sensor was used in process industry because of low cost and robust designed. Three types of electrode available in particular application such as pin shape, quarter ring shape and ring shape. The paper was focused on the investigation of the pin shape structure and the characteristic of the circular shape by using different size of structure. Non-instrusive method with circular electrode will be designed and applied to the shape. The sensitivity and spatial filtering effect of sensor will be investigated by using different size of electrodes. Then, the model will be proposed and compared with experimental result. © 2011 IEEE.

Electrodynamic sensor was used in process industry because of lower price and robust designed. It is also used to increase the efficiency of energy and raw materials usage and to improve product quality and process efficiency. Three types of electrode are available in particular application such as pin shape, quarter ring shape and ring shape. This paper focused on the investigation of the pin shape structure and the characteristic of the rectangular shape by using different structure sizes of various lengths and with fixed width. Non-instrusive method was applied to the design of rectangular electrode. The characteristic based on sensitivity of electrode and the spatial filtering effect of sensor will be investigated by using different size of electrodes. Then, the model will be proposed and compared with experimental result. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes some problems concerning control of small-scale biomass boilers. A commercially available boiler equipped with additional instrumentation has been used as an experimental platform for research purposes. In the paper are discussed grate sweeping effects on fluctuations in boiler operation that have been weakened by algorithm alternations. Another problem discussed in the paper is transient states generation during on/off control of the boiler heat output. These states cause decrease in overall efficiency of the boiler and they can be also source of increased emissions of gaseous pollutants in the flue gas. As a solution the on/off algorithm has been replaced by continuous linear controller that is able to control the transient states in a desired manner. © 2011 IEEE.

Various approaches to the PID controller tuning account for a substantial part of the undergraduate control engineering curricula. At the most general level, these approaches can be divided into two groups. Model based methods use some kind of mathematical model of the controlled plant while the experimental methods rely on a simple experiment that is performed with the plant. The students usually understand that obtaining a sufficiently accurate mathematical model of the plant is not easy and may involve many complex issues. On the other hand, the experimental methods may be regarded as an easy to follow recipe that can be directly applied according to the textbook to obtain the desired tuning. This paper shows the common pitfalls that can arise when these methods are applied in their idealized textbook form. The main focus is on how these pitfalls can be demonstrated using experiments with two laboratory plants of different complexity. © 2011 IFAC.

This paper discusses the design and evaluation of a new electrostatic sensor for the measurement of the mass median size of particles in a pipeline system. The introduction includes an explanation of several different shapes of an electrode, with the phenomena of particles moving in a pipeline that carries a charge outlined. The elements of a sensor, including the signal conditioning electronic is described. The performances of the electrode are compared in terms of the efficiency and accuracy of waveforms by converting the time domain signal into the frequency domain for analysis. The measurements of particle sizes are obtained by using proven offline specific equipment for measuring particle size. Comparisons are made with online values for particle sizes by using the equation of mass median particle size that has been described. Finally, the experiment results obtained by using measurements of particle size through the offline and vice versa methods are analyses by comparing the performances of design based on both methods. The results show that the electrode with full ring produces a better result. © 2011 IEEE.

This research paper proposes the inspection system of heat pipe cooling for electronic devices, such as CPU in personal computer, laptop computer and so on. The inspection system is an essential part in production process of heat pipes CPU cooler. To ensure the high quality product, a 100% quality checking is taken into account. Generally, heat pipe inspection system is conducted by human ears that may cause errors. Therefore, this work proposes the automatic inspection system using the concept on the basis of sensing Acoustic Emission (AE) signals. In the experiment, the AE sensor was mounted on the heat pipe surface to measure the vibration degree sent to computer. The signal of acoustic vibration was analyzed by windows operating system using LABVIEW and NI USB-9233 data acquisition module. Threshold level of noise vibration shown in the program could identify quality or defect of the heat pipe cooling operation. The performances evaluation is satisfactorily achieved with the proposed system illustrated by the testing of the known condition product. This research could potentially help improving the quality assurance operation of heat pipe cooling inspection system in any industries.

This paper presents some specific issues of a high speed permanent magnet synchronous motor control used in a combustion engine supercharger system. A description of a method designed to limit the load angle of synchronous motor in high speed is given. Also experimental results in dynamic states are shown. In these states mainly acceleration times and energy intensity with correlation on motor current and field weakening were examined. Dynamic properties were tested for a power supply with both high and low internal resistance. The experimental setup description is given and test results for speed up to 42 000 RPM are shown. © 2011 IEEE.

Lead free piezoelectric ceramics of (1-x)Bi0.5K 0.5TiO3 - xBaTiO3 (BKT - BT) were fabricated by the solid state reaction method with normal sintering. The influence of BT addition on the crystal structure, phase transition and dielectric properties was investigated. The crystal structure and ferroelectric phase transition were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and dielectric measurements. The complete solid solution of BKT - BT was observed for all compositions. In XRD results, all compositions showed a single phase perovskite structure with tetragonal symmetry at room temperature. With increasing BT content, the separation between diffraction peaks corresponded to increasing tetragonality. The phase transition temperature of ferroelectric tetragonal - paraelectric cubic (T C) decreased with increasing BT content. As the amount of BT concentration increased, the ceramic became denser, and almost no porosity was finally obtained. © 2011 IEEE.
