Sensor network localization (SNL) problems require determining the physical coordinates of all sensors in a network. This process relies on the global coordinates of anchors and the available measurements between non-anchor and anchor nodes. Attributed to the intrinsic non-convexity, obtaining a globally optimal solution to SNL is challenging, as well as implementing corresponding algorithms. In this paper, we formulate a non-convex multi-player potential game for a generic SNL problem to investigate the identification condition of the global Nash equilibrium (NE) therein, where the global NE represents the global solution of SNL. We employ canonical duality theory to transform the non-convex game into a complementary dual problem. Then we develop a conjugation-based algorithm to compute the stationary points of the complementary dual problem. On this basis, we show an identification condition of the global NE: the stationary point of the proposed algorithm satisfies a duality relation. An optical fiber sensor with a single mode-multimode-single mode (SMS) structure is proposed to detect ethanol vapor ranging between 100–500 ppm via the evanescent field interaction at the interface between the optical fiber and ethanol vapor. The proposed optical fiber sensor offers real-time and non-invasive monitoring of ethanol vapor, which is one of the biomarkers of diabetes. Molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) is coated at a multimode fiber region, which is considered to be a sensing area, to improve the selectivity of the ethanol biomarker. The sensor works based on wavelength interrogation by detecting the change in wavelength due to the change in vapor concentration. The fabricated sensor has a sensitivity of 0.0013 nm/ppm, which suggests the potential to be used as a monitoring device for breath analysis.

This work presents the results of the examination of the HeLa cell line exposure on the ELF-EMF (extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field). In particular, the relationship between ELF-EMF exposition time and cell death. The examination of cell death hallmarks were examined by estimation levels of selected proteins - FACL4 (a protein that is a part of the ferroptosis pathway) and CK18 (Cytokeratin related to necrosis and apoptosis pathways) in the proposed model of workers exposed to ELF-EMF week.

In recent years, the error-state Kalman filter (ErKF) has been extensively employed across various applications, including but not limited to robotics, aerospace, and localization. However, incorporating constraints into the ErKF framework when state constraint is necessary has remained a challenging task due to its intrinsic properties. This paper explores all possible ways to achieve this goal in the context of the estimate projection method. In particular, the constraint can be enforced before or after the ErKF’s correction step. We approach the problem from a mathematical perspective by deriving analytical solutions and discussing their statistical properties. We prove that the two mentioned methods are statistically identical for a linear system with linear constraints. Conversely, the filter’s behavior remains uncertain in the presence of linearized constraints. However, we provide a special case of the nonlinear constraint, wherein the results of the linear case remain valid. To support our theorem and verify the filter’s performance when the assumptions are invalidated, we present two Monte Carlo simulations under the increasing initialization error and the constraint’s incompleteness. The simulation results clearly confirm our insights and lead to the conclusion that constraining the error-state after the correction may offer superior outcomes compared to its competitor. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper proposes a decentralized sliding mode control approach to the voltage regulation problem in a DC microgrid consisting of distributed generation units interconnected with each other through resistive-inductive power lines and supplying unknown nonlinear loads. In particular, the port-Hamiltonian structure of the system suggests the design of a suitable sliding manifold such that the system on this manifold exhibits desired passivity properties. This approach simplifies the control design and relaxes some restrictive assumptions required by other controllers proposed in the literature, while offering satisfactory performance.

Architectural Distortion (AD) is a common abnormality in digital mammograms, alongside masses and microcalcifications. Detecting AD in dense breast tissue is particularly challenging due to its heterogeneous asymmetries and subtle presentation. Factors such as location, size, shape, texture, and variability in patterns contribute to reduced sensitivity. To address these challenges, we propose a novel feature fusion-based Vision Transformer (ViT) attention network, combined with VGG-16, to improve accuracy and efficiency in AD detection. Our approach mitigates issues related to texture fixation, background boundaries, and deep neural network limitations, enhancing the robustness of AD classification in mammograms. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance, outperforming eight existing deep learning models. On the PINUM dataset, it attains 0.97 sensitivity, 0.92 F1-score, 0.93 precision, 0.94 specificity, and 0.96 accuracy. On the DDSM dataset, it records 0.93 sensitivity, 0.91 F1-score, 0.94 precision, 0.92 specificity, and 0.95 accuracy. These results highlight the potential of our method for computer-aided breast cancer diagnosis, particularly in low-resource settings where access to high-end imaging technology is limited. By enabling more accurate and timely AD detection, our approach could significantly improve breast cancer screening and early intervention worldwide. © 2013 IEEE.

The essential quality parameter of rolled products is the flatness along the rolled stock length. The profile defects of the rolled stock, produced at the modern plate mill 5000, frequently occur in the course of intense cooling implied by the thermomechanical rolling technology. To eliminate them, the mill lines include cold straightening machines. The authors show typical flatness defects caused by the occurrence of longitudinal, central and edge waves. Further, the paper characterizes a cold straightening machine installed at the mill 5000 and provides the parameters of electric engines of straightening rollers. The key drawback of the design algorithm for electric drives’ control is setting engine constant moments regardless of the thickness and character of the defects in the rolled stock processed. This causes overloading of the electric and mechanical systems of certain rollers and unsatisfactory product quality. To eliminate the drawback, the authors developed a method for individual setting of engine moments closely coupled in the course of sheet processing. The authors present a functional block diagram for the control system to implement the method. The rationale is provided for the digital setting of moment controllers switched on the inputs of speed controllers. The authors conducted simulation modelling and comparative analysis of engine speeds and moments at the design and proposed settings. The paper provides the analysis of oscillograms obtained before and after the introduction of the control system developed. Its technical and economic feasibility was confirmed during operation.

This paper provides an analysis of the current state-of-The-Art technologies in the field of auto-operators used in production during the electroplating process. General schemes of operations are presented, benefits and drawbacks of each scheme are discussed. The paper discusses an increase in the operating efficiency of the auto-operator in transient conditions (braking and acceleration) by reducing suspension oscillations and provides an example of a similar problem from other industries. In addition to the classification of the auto-operators, three main ways and control methods of the auto-operator of a galvanic line are presented. The main ways of eliminating oscillations during the movement of the auto-operator, as well as the rationale for the choice of adaptive (optimal) control, based on and comparing the basic control algorithms of the robot manipulator, are discussed. The comparative analysis of algorithms used to determine the optimal control has been carried out. Application field of each optimal control method described, moreover advantages and disadvantages as well as implementation methods described. Bellman dynamic programming method was chosen to eliminate oscillations of the suspension with details during the auto-operator transient conditions, the chosen method takes into account all necessary conditions to achieve the desired result. © 2021 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. We present a O(n3) algorithm for solving the Distance Geometry Problem for a complete graph (a simple undirected graph in which every pair of distinct vertices is connected by a unique edge) consisting of n+ 1 vertices and non-negatively weighted edges. It is known that when the solution of the problem exists, the dimension of the Euclidean embedding is at most n. The algorithm provides the smallest possible dimension of the Euclidean space for which the exact embedding of the graph exists. Alternatively, when the distance matrix under consideration is non-Euclidean, the algorithm determines a subset of graph vertices whose mutual distances form the Euclidean matrix. The proposed algorithm is an exact algorithm. If the distance matrix is a Euclidean matrix, the algorithm provides a geometrically unambiguous solution for the location of the graph vertices. The presented embedding method was illustrated using examples of the metric traveling salesman problem that allowed us in some cases to obtain high dimensional partial immersions. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

We consider the problem of functional, random data classification from equidistant samples. Such data are frequently not easy for classification when one has a large number of observations that bear low information for classification. We consider this problem using tools from the functional analysis. Therefore, a mathematical model of such data is proposed and its correctness is verified. Then, it is shown that any finite number of descriptors, obtained by orthogonal projections on any differentiable basis of L2(0,T), can be consistently estimated within this model. Computational aspects of estimating descriptors, based on the fast implementation of the discrete cosine transform (DCT), are also investigated in conjunction with learning a classifier and using it on-line. Finally, the algorithm of learning descriptors and classifiers were tested on real-life random signals, namely, on accelerations, coming from large bucket-wheel excavators, that are transmitted to an operator’s cabin. The aim of these tests was also to select a classifier that is well suited for working with DCT-based descriptors. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
