A novel iris recognition method based on multi-texture feature fusion is presented in the paper. The extraction of the texture features with different resolutions in different directions are carried out by performing Gabor wavelet transform for iris image and the extracted features are used as global features of iris. The local features of iris are extracted by applying gray scale level Co-Occurrence Matrix (COM) to the filtered sub-window image. The global features and local features will be recognized and sorted by weighting Euclidean distance and the minimum distance, respectively. A sorting method with Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) feature fusion is designed to improve the robustness of iris recognition. Experimental results show that the method is effective and feasible with recognition ratio up to 98.5%, False Acceptance Rates (FAR) lower than 0.1% while False Rejection Rates (FRR) keeping 1.4%.

In order to improve location precision and speed of base circle in PCB (Printed Circuit Board) detecting, an algorithm for circle subpixel location detection was presented. At first, the edge points could be obtained from edge detecting the filtered image using canny operator, then the circle approximately position and its parameter could be gained through dealing with the edge points using point Hough transformation;secondly, the circle's edge points could be got through deleting big noise points according to the circle's parameter, then the circle's subpixel edge points could be obtained from subdividing the circle's edge points;finally the circle's precision location and its parameter could be obtained through fitting the circle's subpixel edge points using least square method. The experiments demonstrate that this algorithm can detect the base circle's subpixel location and its parameter. The center location precision is up to 0.5 pixel, and the radius detection precision is up to 0.3 pixel, and the speed is very high.

In this paper, we present an explicit solution to H ∞ full-information control for discrete-time systems with multiple input delays. Our solution is given in terms of one standard Riccati difference equation of the same order as the plant under investigation. Thus, it has much computational advantage over methods such as system augmentation. As special cases, solutions to the H ∞ control problem for systems with single input delay and the H ∞ preview control are obtained.

Sliding mode observer design for a class of nonlinear uncertain systems is systematically developed in this paper. The observer is designed under less conservative conditions than existing sliding mode observers that are based on equivalent control concept. A methodology to select suitable transformation is formulated, and it divides the original system into three interconnected subsystems. Multiple sliding modes are then introduced to compensate for multiple disturbance terms in the subsystems by appending them to constant gain observer. The conditions for asymptotic stability of estimation error dynamics have been derived based on Lipschitz assumptions for nonlinear functions by standard Lyapunov analysis. Finally, simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper describes a practical ambient temperature dependant battery state of charge (SOC) estimation algorithm that can determine the SOC of a battery operating under load conditions. SOC is an essential parameter in a monitoring system, which is the basis of a battery management system (BMS). Temperature has a profound effect on the actual capacity or SOC of the battery. The proposed model in this paper determines the SOC by incorporating the changes occurring to charge acceptance, power deliverable and internal resistance due to the variations in temperature.

Although the problem of linear quadratic regulation has been well studied for discrete linear systems without delays or with only a single input delay in the past decades, the same problem for systems with multiple input delays remains to be solved. This paper aims to present a complete solution to the LQR problem for systems with multiple input delays. It shall be shown that the problem is dual to that of fixed-lag smoothing for a backward system without involving delays. Thus, the optimal LQR controller can be obtained by computing the gain matrices of the standard fixed-lag smoothing. An explicit solution for the LQR problem is given in terms of the solution of a Riccati difference equation.

Infrared (IR) and visible images are commonly used in the detection and tracking of a moving target. A novel contour extraction scheme for a moving vehicle is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a motion segmentation technology is applied to get an initial contour. Secondly, a dynamic contour is applied to represent the initial contour and then converges to the target's contour. Lastly, a novel image fusion is proposed, which minimizes the B-spline norm's square of control point vector's difference in two modal images. Image registration is not required. The experiment indicates that for visible images, average contour extraction error decreases by 58.14% after the fusion. Moreover, a fast iteration algorithm of dynamic contour based on the Newmark algorithm is devised. This image fusion is implemented only with control point vectors and is suitable for real-time processing.
