The formation of self-assembled quantum dots (SAQDs) during the growth of epitaxial materials is of great interest for optical applications due to the high density of dots which can be achieved in comparison with lithographic patterning techniques. Much of the research in this field has been directed towards the systems which display a type-I band alignment such as In(Ga)As/GaAs. This paper is concerned with the robust H∞ control with exponent stability for a class of time-delay uncertain systems. Attention is focused on the design of controllers such that the resulting closed-loop system not only is exponentially stable but also satisfies, H∞ disturbance attenuance via memoryless state feedback control. Sufficient conditions for feasibility are obtained in terms of LMIs. Moreover, optimization of LMI is considered such that the controller with low gain parameters is formulated.

It is concluded from the results of testing the frequency characteristics of the sub micron precision machine tool servo control system, that the existence of several oscillating modalities is the main factor that affects the performance of the control system. To compensate for this effect,several concave filters are utilized in the system to improve the control accuracy. The feasibility of compensating for several oscillating modalities with a single concave filter is also studied. By applying a modified Butterworth concave filter to the practical system, the maximum stable state output error remains under ±10 nm in the closed loop positioning system.

Nonlinear model predictive control, which is conceptually similar to its linear counterpart except that nonlinear dynamic model is used for process prediction and optimization, is a developing control field. The proposed nonlinear model predictive control scheme, which is called nonlinear sliding mode model predictive control, integrates model predictive control and sliding mode variable structure control. A feasible dual-mode control scheme is presented in the paper, sliding mode predictive controller is implemented while the system state is outside the terminal region, besides sliding mode variable structure control designed off-line is used. The resulting control scheme has strong points of the two control methods. By predicting the pre-designed switching function, the predictive control sequence can be found by solving constrained open-loop optimal control problem, and the current control is implemented. At next sampling time the optimizing procedure is repeated. By constraining terminal sliding mode with an inequality, the state is steered into the predesigned sliding mode region, then the closed-loop stability is proved, and furthermore the system performance is analyzed. With some conditions, the method can be extended to a quasi-infinite horizon formulation. Simulation results show that less calculation is needed.

A new window function method which is efficiently combines the advantage of an adaptive window, totally eliminating leakage errors, with that of a conventional window, a good attenuation performance for noise signals, is proposed to reduce the measurement errors of distorted power under nonsinusoidal and noisy conditions. A novel approach, based on a hierarchical information fusion scheme and using the different symptoms of the faults in the various locations of a system, to fault diagnosis of the system is presented. Firstly, the data fusion of various location sensors in a system is used to guarantee the reliability and accuracy of measurements. Then, the different symptoms of the faults in various locations of a system are classified via multiple neural networks to obtain local decisions. These local decisions are fused by fuzzy integral in which the relative importance of each network is also considered. Finally, we apply this approach to a model of a turbine system. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Presented a concatenated encoder that has very wide applications in DVB, HDTV and satellite communication systems. It was mainly composed of punctured convolutional encoder, convolutional interleaver, and Reed-Solomon encoder. In the convolutional interleaver, an over-clocking scheme is employed to guarantee the speed limits. Furthermore, a finite field multiplier of composite fields was adapted to optimize area and power in RS encoder, which reduced the area near to one half compared to the conventional RS (204,188) encoder. The proposed concatenated encoder has about 3700 gates except RAM model and it has good compliance with EN300 421.
