Robot audition systems with multiple microphone arrays have many applications in practice. However, accurate calibration of multiple microphone arrays remains challenging because there are many unknown parameters to be identified, including the relative transforms (i.e., orientation, translation) and asynchronous factors (i.e., initial time offset and sampling clock difference) between microphone arrays. To tackle these challenges, in this paper, we adopt batch simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for joint calibration of multiple asynchronous microphone arrays and sound source localization. Using the Fisher information matrix (FIM) approach, we first conduct the observability analysis (i.e., parameter identifiability) of the above-mentioned calibration problem and establish necessary/sufficient conditions under which the FIM and the Jacobian matrix have full column rank, which implies the identifiability of the unknown parameters. We also discover several scenarios where the unknown parameters are not uniquely identifiable. Subsequently, we propose an effective framework to initialize the unknown parameters, which is used as the initial guess in batch SLAM for multiple microphone arrays calibration, aiming to further enhance optimization accuracy and convergence. Extensive numerical simulations and real experiments have been conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. The experiment results show that the proposed pipeline achieves higher accuracy with fast convergence in comparison to methods that use the noise-corrupted ground truth of the unknown parameters as the initial guess in the optimization and other existing frameworks. © 2024, CC BY.

The method for controlling a DC-DC converter is proposed to ensures the high quality control at large fluctuations in load currents by using differential gain control coefficients and second derivative control. Various implementations of balancing the currents of a multiphase DC-DC converter are discussed, with a focus on achieving accurate current regulation without introducing additional delay in the control system. Stochastic particle swarm optimization method is used to find optimal values of the PID controller parameters. PM_(2.5)pollution variations in different microenvironments would result in PM_(2.5)exposure inequity between rural and urban *** this study,the real-time PM_(2.5)exposure of urban and rural residents in China was examined based on portable PM_(2.5)sensors together with activity patterns derived from questionnaire surveys,with a focus on students and senior citizens who are sensitive to air *** results showed that PM_(2.5)exposure varied significantly among different resident groups,with higher PM_(2.5)exposure of rural residents than those of urban ***_(2.5)exposure peaks mostly occurred during(Accompanied)cooking activities owing to strong *** and resting were the main activities that affected PM_(2.5)exposures of different resident groups,accounting for 60.7%-94.5%of total daily ***,the long duration of sleeping makes it the predominant activity contributing to PM 25 exposure *** is necessary to obtain point-to-point respiratory volume(respiratory rate)data when measuring real-time PM_(2.5)exposure data and incorporate respiratory volume(respiratory rate)into the analysis of PM_(2.5)*** the first time,this study quantified the PM_(2.5)exposure inequality based on a novel method and can provide useful information for further studies on the exposure inequity.

Applied Hamiltonian Monte Carlo for multi-fidelity kriging modelling in experiment optimization

Surrogate modelling with multi-fidelity data brings significant improvements for experiments and simulations. A multi-fidelity kriging modelling method is proposed with the help of Hamilton Monte Carlo (HMC) to speed up the modelling process. The multi-fidelity Hamiltonian kriging (MHK) algorithm builds the initial model with the original value and gradient responses. The weight parameters are adaptively calculated based on HMC with a no-U-turn sampler (NUTS) strategy. The modelling process continues until the stopping criterion brought by probability improvement with NUTS is satisfied. MHK is demonstrated with two numerical examples, and applied to a validation case of low-speed flow analysis of the NACA 0012 aerofoil and an application example on the reliability modelling verification of a tethered satellite semi-physical system. The engineering applications show that the proposed MHK can perform precisely in complex experiments. The MHK can be useful for any other reliability engineering problems involving sampling from multi-fidelity models. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Batteries will age after being used for some *** the charge is insufficient,the electrical systems they power will stop functioning or even run out of *** have good knowledge about the real-time status of the batteries,many researchers study the long short term memory(LSTM) model to estimate the remaining useful life(RUL) of the batteries,and they usually focus on the prediction results of a single ***,they did not care about the model performance in repeated *** repeated experiments,each experiment is a simulation of the life cycle of a *** perform long-term reliable estimation,this paper proposes effective data preprocessing techniques to obtain feature data,which are used to drive the baseline LSTM ***,empirical mode decomposition(EMD) and selective data expansion are adopted to achieve an accurate evaluation of the state of health(SoH).Then,a filter is designed to reduce the fluctuation caused by the variation of model parameters in each experiment,after which the RUL of the battery is inferred from *** evaluation index is proposed for the performance of the model in repeated *** study and ablation experiments verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed scheme.

Coastal bridges, as vital components of transportation networks, are vulnerable to damage from successive earthquake-tsunami (EQ-TS) events in rapidly developing coastal hazard-prone cities. Understanding how these bridges perform under the combined effects of earthquakes and tsunamis is crucial. Though studies have investigated coastal buildings facing these hazards, there is limited research on bridges experiencing extreme EQ-TS events, especially on the generation of load sequences, dynamic structural responses, and cumulative damage assessment. To overcome these limitations, this study aims to thoroughly examine the dynamic behavior of reinforced concrete coastal bridges subjected to successive EQ-TS hazards. To generate practical sequential EQ-TS loads, records of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and resulting tsunami heights, which are calculated based on the earthquake magnitude and epicentral distance, are utilized for analyses. The tsunami wave load time series for each earthquake record is created using a high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics model. Nonlinear time-history analyses are then performed for the bridge model in OpenSees under the synthetic EQ-TS sequences, quantifying structural responses and cumulative damage. Moreover, the comparative results of structural performance under single and successive hazard scenarios are presented and discussed. Results indicate that successive EQ-TS hazards not only induce much larger structural responses as compared to a single EQ hazard, but also produce considerable residual displacements for both bearings and decks. The wave height is more appropriate than the peak ground acceleration as an individual intensity measure for predicting the cumulative damage of bridges under cascading EQ-TS hazards. Relying solely on peak responses for assessing the dynamic performance of piers under successive EQ-TS sequences may underestimate the actual damage. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Secondary battery protection has become a major area of research, especially as more commercial products and large-scale energy management systems come to rely on rechargeable batteries such as the lithium-ion battery. This concern for protection not only arises from the desire for convenience to have continually working systems, but also from the severity of the consequences of batteries failures. Some results of lithium-ion battery failures can include, combustion or explosion of the faulty battery cell, combustion or explosion of nearby battery cells, and electrical damage of connected circuit components among others. Research in the field of fault protection schemes for batteries focuses on minimizing damage to the system when a fault is expected to occur and the detection and diagnosis of what types of faults could be present within a battery cell or higher-order group of battery cells. This paper focuses on reviewing the literature of fault protection schemes for lithium-ion batteries based on the detection and diagnosis of well known battery failures.

Lithium-ion batteries are widely applied in sustainable energy conversion system. Consequently, it is of great research significance to accurately estimate the state of health (SOH) of batteries. To effectively model the input features at the spatial level, this article proposes a self-attention graph pooling convolutional network (SAGPCN) to estimate the SOH. The advantages of SAGPCN proposed in this paper can be reflected as follows: (1) The SAGPCN can consider node characteristics and graph topology, which focuses the attention on key parts of the graph. (2) The SAGPCN designs a self-attention mechanism to reserve significant nodes and delete secondary nodes, so as to optimize the network structure. A real-world dataset is adopted to evaluate the proposed battery SOH estimation approach in this paper. Experimental results represent that the estimation performance of the proposed SAGPCN is better than some data-driven SOH prediction approaches.
