This paper addresses the problem of finite-time convergence in a social network for a political party or an association, modeled as a distributed iterative system with a graph dynamics chosen to mimic how people interact. It is firstly shown that, in this setting, finite-time convergence is achieved only when nodes form a complete network, and that contacting with agents with distinct opinions reduces to a half the required interconnections. Two novel strategies are presented that enable finite-time convergence, even for the case where each node only contacts the two closest neighbors. These strategies are of prime importance, for instance, in a company environment where agents can be motivated to reach faster conclusions. The performance of the proposed policies is assessed through simulation, illustrating, in particular the finite-time convergence property.

Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is necessary to explore the factors leading to heavy drought and rainy-flood disaster in some districts of Sichuan province. A method based RS, GIS, GPS and Google earth (GE) is presented to establish LUCC database in Sichuan province and Chengdu district. At first, LUCC is interpreted based on the new temporal images and the land use and land cover database from TM in ***, some ground objects, which could not be identified in the new temporal images, were interpreted utilizing GE with some higher spatial resolution images. Thirdly, the new interpreted LUCC was validated in the field with GPS handheld receiver. Then, LUCC of Sichuan province was updated. A comparative analysis of LUCC between in Sichuan province and in Chengdu district was conducted and the result showed: (1) a large amount of farmland in Sichuan Province was occupied from 2000 to 2005 and the area is 84 573 ha. While construction land gained obviously and the area was 35 828 ha. The dynamic degree of construction land was 111.10 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005. The LUCC demonstrated that the economy of Sichuan province continued to develop, the cities were overspreading and the urban heat island effect was deteriorated from 2000 to 2005. (2) A large amount of farmland was also occupied in Chengdu district from 2000 to 2005, the area amounted to 12 989 ha. The farmland lost was mainly changed to construction land, amounting to 93%. And the dynamic degree was 117.41 0 / 00 from 2000 to 2005, which was bigger than that in Sichuan province.

In this paper we present the Yale-CMU-Berkeley (YCB) Object and Model set, intended to be used for benchmarking in robotic grasping and manipulation research. The objects in the set are designed to cover various aspects of the manipulation problem; it includes objects of daily life with different shapes, sizes, textures, weight and rigidity, as well as some widely used manipulation tests. The associated database provides high-resolution RGBD scans, physical properties and geometric models of the objects for easy incorporation into manipulation and planning software platforms. A comprehensive literature survey on existing benchmarks and object datasets is also presented and their scope and limitations are discussed. The set will be freely distributed to research groups worldwide at a series of tutorials at robotics conferences, and will be otherwise available at a reasonable purchase cost.

The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND)1 is a planned large-scale observatory of ultra-high-energy (UHE) cosmic particles — cosmic rays, gamma rays, and neutrinos with energies exceeding 108 GeV. Its ultimate goal is to solve the long-standing mystery of the origin of UHE cosmic rays. It will do so by detecting an unprecedented number of UHECRs and by looking with unmatched sensitivity for the undiscovered UHE neutrinos and gamma rays associated to them. Three key features of GRAND will make this possible: its large exposure at ultra-high energies, sub-degree angular resolution, and sensitivity to the unique signals made by UHE neutrinos. The strategy of GRAND is to detect the radio emission coming from large particle showers that develop in the terrestrial atmosphere — extensive air showers — as a result of the interaction of UHE cosmic rays, gamma, rays, and neutrinos. To achieve this, GRAND will be the largest array of radio antennas ever built. The relative affordability of radio antennas makes the scale of construction possible. GRAND will build on years of progress in the field of radio-detection and apply the large body of technological, theoretical, and numerical advances, for the first time, to the radio-detection of air showers initiated by UHE neutrinos. The design of GRAND will be modular, consisting of several indep.ndent sub-arrays, each of 10 000 radio antennas dep.oyed over 10 000 km2 in radio-quiet locations. A staged construction plan ensures that key techniques are progressively validated, while simultaneously achieving important science goals in UHECR physics, radioastronomy, and cosmology early during construction. Already by 2025, using the first sub-array of 10 000 antennas, GRAND could discover the long-sought cosmogenic neutrinos — produced by interactions of ultra-high-energy cosmic-rays with cosmic photon fields — if their flux is as high as presently allowed, by reaching a sensitivity comparable to planned upgraded versions o

T Clouds was an EU project (2010-2013) targeted at improving the security and the dep.ndability of cloud infrastructures and services, especially for supporting critical applications. During the project, the participants of the consortium developed a platform containing a portfolio of solutions for improving the state of the art in cloud security and dep.ndability. Power consumption is becoming an increasingly important component of processor design. As technology node shrinks both static and dynamic power become more relevant. This is particularly critical for the cache hierarchy. Previous implementations mainly focus on reducing only one kind of power in the cache, either static or dynamic. However, for a more robust approach that will remain relevant as technology continues to shrink, both aspects of power need to be addressed. Recent processors, e.g. Intel Core or IBM Power8, implement simultaneous multithreading (SMT) cores to hide high memory latencies. In these systems, the dynamic energy in the L1 cache is even more stressed since this cache level is shared by several threads running on the same core. This paper proposes and evaluates the use of phase adaptive caches in all structures of a 3-level cache hierarchy of a SMT cores. Compared to the use of conventional caches, our work results on significant dynamic and leakage energy savings with scarce performance impact.

Falls in older adults are not only frequent but also potentially disabling for them. Detecting and preventing these falls have an important impact in the life of the elderly people. This paper presents the architecture of a pervasive system designed to perform early detection of older adults in risk of falling or fell down. The system notifies the appropriate people or healthcare organizations in case of detecting a fall of the monitored person. Non-invasive ultrasound imaging of carotid plaques can provide information on the characteristics of the arterial wall including the size, morphology and texture of the atherosclerotic plaques. Several studies were carried out that demonstrated the usefulness of these feature sets for differentiating between asymptomatic and symptomatic plaques and their corresponding cerebrovascular risk stratification. The aim of this study was to develop predictive modelling for estimating the time period of a stroke event by determining the risk for short term (less or equal to three years) or long term (more than three years) events. Data from 108 patients that had a stroke event have been used. The information collected included clinical and ultrasound imaging data. The prediction was performed at base line where patients were still asymptomatic. Several image texture analysis and clinical features were used in order to create a classification model. The different features were statistically analyzed and we conclude that image texture analysis features extracted using Spatial Gray Level dep.ndencies method had the best statistical significance. Several predictive models were derived based on Binary Logistic Regression (BLR) and Support Vector Machines (SVM) modelling. The best results were obtained with the SVM modelling models with an average correct classifications score of 77±7% for differentiating between stroke event occurrences within 3 years versus more than 3 years. Further work is needed in investigating additional multiscale texture analysis features as well as more modelling techniques on more subjects.

Multihoming is among the features of SCTP (Stream control Transmission Protocol), which makes it more robust and efficient than TCP(Transmission control Protocol)but more vulnerable under attack. Nevertheless, a strong security can degrade the QoS(Quality of Service) by adding additional delay. Therefore, we propose in this paper, a secure authentication protocol that supports the establishment of multiple connections to protect multihoming networks with the least number of messages, number of parameters in each message and number of communicating nodes. The proposed scheme provides lower delay of authentication and protects against several attacks. Our devised protocol is analyzed using SPAN (Security Protocol Animator) for AVISPA (Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications) tool.
