Comprehensive multimodal approach for Parkinson’s disease classification using artificial intelligence: insights and model explainability

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions worldwide. Early detection is vital for effective management, yet remains challenging. In this study, we investigated four distinct datasets for PD detection. Through comprehensive experimentation employing ensemble methods and feature selection, we achieved high classification accuracies across the datasets. For the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Detection Dataset, an accuracy of 95.67%, precision of 97.59%, recall of 84.5%, specificity of 99.32%, and F1-score of 90.57% were achieved. For the Alzheimer Parkinson Diseases 3 Class Dataset, the "Stacking" approach surpasses individual models, reaching an accuracy of 99.85%, precision of 99.81%, recall of 99.81%, specificity of 99.86%, and F1 of 99.81%. For the NewHandPD dataset, Regarding the Spiral category, The "Base-P32-384" model surpasses others with an accuracy of 97.35%, precision of 96.50%, recall of 98.57%, and F1-score of 97.53%. The collective "Stacking" approach proves highly effective regarding the Circle category, achieving 100% across all performance metrics. Regarding the Meander category, the "Base-P16-224" model achieves an accuracy of 97.35%, precision of 99.26%, recall of 95.71%, specificity of 99.19%, and F1 of 97.45%. The Mobile Device Voice Recordings at King’s College London (MDVR-KCL) dataset contains two datasets. Regarding the "SpontaneousDialogue" dataset, accuracy, BAC, precision, recall, specificity, and F1-score were computed, resulting in values of 94.03%, 92.83%, 90.78%, 100.0%, and 85.67%, respectively. Regarding the "ReadText" dataset, accuracy, BAC, precision, recall, specificity, and F1-score were computed, resulting in values of 91.89%, 90.62%, 87.5%, 100.0%, and 81.25%, respectively. In the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), the role of vehicle detection and classification is indispensable for streamlining transportation management, refining traffic control, and conducting in-depth accident analyses. However, the intricate task of accurately detecting multi-oriented vehicles in diverse scenarios remains a challenge, even with the advancements in ITS. Factors such as vehicle morphology, design, road conditions, structural details, and climatic variables provide a significant part in the detection. To address this, our study introduces an advanced YOLOv8n model, specifically the YOLOv8n-CGW, which is built upon pre-trained deep learning frameworks. This model is meticulously tailored to enhance the detection capabilities for multi-oriented vehicles. Comprehensive evaluations on esteemed datasets like MtV, MERGED, Custom dataset, DAWN, WEDGE, and UA-DETRAC underscore the superiority of our approach over existing models. Notably, our YOLOv8n-CGW model achieves a remarkable mAP of 83.3% and boasts a swift inference time of 0.0019s, setting a new benchmark in the domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Advancements in deep learning and computer vision have greatly enhanced object detection, playing a vital role in applications such as autonomous driving and surveillance. This study explores the trade-offs between two distinct YOLO model architectures: the vision-only models, referred to as pre-YOLO-World, and a vision-language model known as YOLO-World. While the pre-YOLO-World models are renowned for their speed and accuracy, the YOLO-World model integrates large language models to enhance contextual comprehension, enabling open-vocabulary object detection. This paper provides a qualitative analysis of their strengths and limitations, focusing on speed, accuracy, adaptability, computational requirements, and application scenarios. By contrasting these architectures, we aim to offer insights into their potential roles in evolving object detection paradigms and to guide practitioners in selecting models suited to specific use cases. © 2025 IEEE.

The potential uses of human occupancy detection (HOD) in vehicles are crucial for handling resources, passenger safety, and privacy-preserving technology. In this study, the usage of various sensor systems for non-invasive vehicle occupant detection is examined, including mmWave radar, vision-based, and physical sensors. These technologies undergo a thorough review analysis that looks at methods, performance indicators, and use cases before being assessed for robustness, accuracy, real-time capabilities, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. The impact of clutter, scalability, and privacy in car interiors on HOD is also thoroughly discussed. Based on its ability to balance cost, accuracy, and adaptability, frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar is termed the best option for vehicle occupant identification. The study discussed the possible challenges and future direction, as well as the conclusion provides research opportunities in hybrid sensing systems and advanced machine learning integration to overcome existing constraints. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Visualization is a powerful tool for learning and teaching complex concepts, especially in the field of computer science. However, creating effective and engaging visualizations can be challenging and time-consuming for educators and students. This paper demonstrates how the Manim Python library, a free and open-source project for creating mathematical animations, can be used to create visualizations that illustrate algorithms and data structures in an undergraduate course. The paper showcases several examples of visualizations created with the Manim library, and explains how they help the students to understand the logic, behavior, and performance of the algorithms and data structures. The paper also discusses the benefits and limitations of the Manim library, and suggests some directions for future research and development. © 2024 IEEE.

Software cost estimation is a crucial aspect of software project management,significantly impacting productivity and *** research investigates the impact of various feature selection techniques on software cost estimation accuracy using the CoCoMo NASA dataset,which comprises data from 93 unique software projects with 24 *** applying multiple machine learning algorithms alongside three feature selection methods,this study aims to reduce data redundancy and enhance model *** findings reveal that the principal component analysis(PCA)-based feature selection technique achieved the highest performance,underscoring the importance of optimal feature selection in improving software cost estimation *** is demonstrated that our proposed method outperforms the existing method while achieving the highest precision,accuracy,and recall rates.

Preservation of the crops depends on early and accurate detection of pests on crops as they cause several diseases decreasing crop production and quality. Several deep-learning techniques have been applied to overcome the issue of pest detection on crops. We have developed the YOLOCSP-PEST model for Pest localization and classification. With the Cross Stage Partial Network (CSPNET) backbone, the proposed model is a modified version of You Only Look Once Version 7 (YOLOv7) that is intended primarily for pest localization and classification. Our proposed model gives exceptionally good results under conditions that are very challenging for any other comparable models especially conditions where we have issues with the luminance and the orientation of the images. It helps farmers working out on their crops in distant areas to determine any infestation quickly and accurately on their crops which helps in the quality and quantity of the production yield. The model has been trained and tested on 2 datasets namely the IP102 data set and a local crop data set on both of which it has shown exceptional results. It gave us a mean average precision (mAP) of 88.40% along with a precision of 85.55% and a recall of 84.25% on the IP102 dataset meanwhile giving a mAP of 97.18% on the local data set along with a recall of 94.88% and a precision of 97.50%. These findings demonstrate that the proposed model is very effective in detecting real-life scenarios and can help in the production of crops improving the yield quality and quantity at the same time.

AutYOLO-ATT: an attention-based YOLOv8 algorithm for early autism diagnosis through facial expression recognition

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition resulting from abnormalities in brain structure and function, which can manifest as communication and social interaction difficulties. Conventional methods for diagnosing ASD may not be effective in the early stages of the disorder. Hence, early diagnosis is crucial to improving the patient's overall health and well-being. One alternative and effective method for early autism diagnosis is facial expression recognition since autistic children typically exhibit distinct facial expressions that can aid in distinguishing them from other children. This paper provides a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN)-based real-time emotion recognition system for autistic kids. The proposed system is designed to identify six facial emotions, including surprise, delight, sadness, fear, joy, and natural, and to assist medical professionals and families in recognizing facial expressions in autistic children for early diagnosis and intervention. In this study, an attention-based YOLOv8 (AutYOLO-ATT) algorithm for facial expression recognition is proposed, which enhances the YOLOv8 model's performance by integrating an attention mechanism. The proposed method (AutYOLO-ATT) outperforms all other classifiers in all metrics, achieving a precision of 93.97%, recall of 97.5%, F1-score of 92.99%, and accuracy of 97.2%. These results highlight the potential of the proposed method for real-world applications, particularly in fields where high accuracy is essential. © The Author(s) 2024.

With increasing requirements for high quality, low bandwidth video transmission systems, comes a demand for more ad hoc video encoders. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or just drones, have recently grown in popularity and use. Therefore, in this paper, we provide an efficiency comparison of the two most popular video encoders in a First-person view (FPV) drone piloting system. We film all the test sequences ourselves, using a drone with an attached 4K camera. Each sequence captures a scene with different spatiotemporal characteristics. Because video encoders are sensitive to video content or scene complexity, instead of doing a comprehensive comparison of all sequences at once, we first classify all the sequences into four groups. Finally, we examine the compression efficiency by varying the parameters with the highest impact on encoder operation. The quality of compressed footage is determined using four objective video quality measures. Due to high computational complexity, tests were performed on several nodes of a supercomputer and the relative encoding times were also considered. © 2022 Croatian Society MIPRO.
