The rapid developments of artificial intelligent (AI) is being transformed for its extensive use-cases, people-centered intelligent systems focusing on care delivery, research encounter complex problems related to improve the overall infrastructure and management of intelligent delivery service;for instance, bringing transformation in healthcare sector for monitoring patients with chronic disease. Most of these systems are driven by state-of-the-art learning algorithms i.e., Convolution Neural Network. The CNN algorithm is considered to be one of the most prominent architectures of DL. Recently, due to enormous growth in the amount of annotated data and the development of CNN hardware accelerator, further, boost the research on CNN and accomplished benchmark enactment on different applications. This paper presents cutting-edge applications of CNN for an intelligent healthcare system. We provide useful findings of different CNN features such as optimization, fast computation, design, activation function, and loss function. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive work to address the recent trends in the architecture of CNN, which offers insight to the underlying problems and provides the potential solutions for any given intelligent healthcare applications. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

There are several criteria for building up networks from time series related to different points in geographical space. The most used criterion is the Global-Threshold (GT). Using a weather radar dataset, this paper shows that the Backbone (BB) - a local-threshold criterion - generates networks whose geographical configuration is complementary to the GT networks. We compare the results for two well-known similarities measures: the Pearson Correlation (PC) coefficient and the Mutual Information (MI). The extracted backbone network (miBB), whose number of links is the same as the global MI (miGT), has the lowest average shortest path and presents a small-world effect. In this note, we investigate the robustness of Nash equilibria (NE) in multi-player aggregative games with coupling constraints. There are many algorithms for computing an NE of an aggregative game given a known aggregator. When the coupling parameters are affected by uncertainty, robust NE need to be computed. We consider a scenario where players' weight in the aggregator is unknown, making the aggregator kind of "a black box". We pursue a suitable learning approach to estimate the unknown aggregator by proposing an inverse variational inequality-based relationship. We then utilize the counterpart to reconstruct the game and obtain first-order conditions for robust NE in the worst case. Furthermore, we characterize the generalization property of the learning methodology via an upper bound on the violation probability. Optimizing Temperature Distributions for Training Neural Quantum States using Parallel Tempering

Parameterized artificial neural networks (ANNs) can be very expressive ansatzes for variational algorithms, reaching state-of-the-art energies on many quantum many-body Hamiltonians. Nevertheless, the training of the ANN can be slow and stymied by the presence of local minima in the parameter landscape. One approach to mitigate this issue is to use parallel tempering methods, and in this work we focus on the role played by the temperature distribution of the parallel tempering replicas. Using an adaptive method that adjusts the temperatures in order to equate the exchange probability between neighboring replicas, we show that this temperature optimization can significantly increase the success rate of the variational algorithm with negligible computational cost by eliminating bottlenecks in the replicas’ random walk. We demonstrate this using two different neural networks, a restricted Boltzmann machine and a feedforward network, which we use to study a toy problem based on a permutation invariant Hamiltonian with a pernicious local minimum and the J1-J2 model on a rectangular lattice. © 2024, CC BY.

PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a type of small non-coding RNAs which bind with the PIWI proteins to exert biological effects in various regulatory mechanisms. A growing amount of evidence reveals that exosomal piRNAs are potential biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. Effective methods for the prediction of exosomal piRNAs are the foundation of piRNA functional research. In this study, we propose an end-to-end deep network for identifying exosomal piRNAs based on features learned from natural language processing (NLP) models for sequence embedding with attention mechanism. First, a benchmark dataset is constructed by processing piRNA subcellular localization annotated data and sequence data. Moreover, bagging positive unlabeled learning is applied to get the reliable negative set. Finally, we treat a piRNA sequence as a sentence and its k-mer subsequence as a token. Sequence embedding models with self-attention mechanism is designed to extract features from exosome piRNA sequences, which are used for the prediction task. Compared with three competing methods, our model achieves the best performance and reveals the key factors of exosomal piRNA sequences by the attention mechanism. Our model characterizes exosomal piRNAs and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate exosomal piRNAs’ functions.

Machine learning (ML) is a rapidly evolving technology with expanding applications across various fields. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of recent ML applications in agriculture for sustainability and efficiency. Existing reviews mainly focus on narrow subdomains or lack a fusion-driven perspectives. This study provides a combined analysis of ML applications in agriculture, structured around five key objectives: (i) Analyzing ML techniques across pre-harvesting, harvesting, and post-harvesting phases. (ii) Demonstrating how ML can be used with agricultural data and data fusion. (iii) Conducting a bibliometric and statistical analysis to reveal research trends and activity. (iv) Investigating real-world case studies of leading artificial intelligence (AI)-driven agricultural companies that use different types of multisensors and multisource data. (v) Compiling publicly available datasets to support ML model training. Going beyond existing previous reviews, this review focuses on how machine learning (ML) techniques, combined with multi-source data fusion (integrating remote sensing, IoT, and climate analytics), enhance precision agriculture by improving predictive accuracy and decision-making. Case studies and statistical insights illustrate the evolving landscape of AI driven smart farming, while future research directions also discusses challenges associated with data fusion for heterogeneous datasets. This review bridges the gap between AI research and agricultural applications, offering a roadmap for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to harness information fusion and ML for advancing precision agriculture. DPNet: Dynamic Pooling Network for Tiny Object Detection

In unmanned aerial systems, especially in complex environments, accurately detecting tiny objects is crucial. Resizing images is a common strategy to improve detection accuracy, particularly for small objects. However, simply enlarging images significantly increases computational costs and the number of negative samples, severely degrading detection performance and limiting its applicability. This paper proposes a Dynamic Pooling Network (DPNet) for tiny object detection to mitigate these issues. DPNet employs a flexible down-sampling strategy by introducing a factor (df) to relax the fixed downsampling process of the feature map to an adjustable one. Furthermore, we design a lightweight predictor to predict df for each input image, which will be used to decrease the resolution of feature map in backbone. Thus, we achieve input-aware downsampling. We design an Adaptive Normalization Module (ANM) to make a unified detector well compatible with different dfs. At the same time, we also design a guidance loss to supervise the predictor’s training. DPNet realizes the dynamic allocation of computing resources to trade off detection accuracy and efficiency through this. Experiments on the TinyCOCO and TinyPerson datasets show that our DPNet can save over 35% and 25% GFLOPs, respectively, while maintaining comparable detection *** code will be made publicly available. Stocks returns are moved by many risk factors. Thematic stock indices try to represent these factors, but are limited by the fact that risk factors are not directly observable. This paper shows a method to uncover hidden risk factors through text analysis. It applies the dynamic variant of the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model to annual and quarterly reports to find a topic distribution for each stock. This is then interpreted as the risk factor partition and transformed into a standard normal basis which corresponds to pure risk factors. The weights indicate the proportions necessary to combine the equities into tradable topic indices. We address the problem of learning new classes for semantic segmentation models from few examples, which is challenging because of the following two reasons. Firstly, it is difficult to learn from limited novel data to capture the underlying class distribution. Secondly, it is challenging to retain knowledge for existing classes and to avoid catastrophic forgetting. For learning from limited data, we propose a pseudo-labeling strategy to augment the few-shot training annotations in order to learn novel classes more effectively. Given only one or a few images labeled with the novel classes and a much larger set of unlabeled images, we transfer the knowledge from labeled images to unlabeled images with a coarse-to-fine pseudo-labeling approach in two steps. Specifically, we first match each labeled image to its nearest neighbors in the unlabeled image set at the scene level, in order to obtain images with a similar scene layout. This is followed by obtaining pseudo-labels within this neighborhood by applying classifiers learned on the few-shot annotations. In addition, we use knowledge distillation on both labeled and unlabeled data to retain knowledge on existing classes. We integrate the above steps into a single convolutional neural network with a unified learning objective. Extensive experiments on the Cityscapes and KITTI datasets validate the efficacy of the proposed approach in the self-driving domain. Code is available from https://***/ChasonJiang/FSCILSS. Curriculum learning is often employed in deep reinforcement learning to let the agent progress more quickly towards better behaviors. Numerical methods for curriculum learning in the literature provides only initial heuristic solutions, with little to no guarantee on their quality. We define a new gray-box function that, including a suitable scheduling problem, can be effectively used to reformulate the curriculum learning problem. We propose different efficient numerical methods to address this gray-box reformulation. Preliminary numerical results on a benchmark task in the curriculum learning literature show the viability of the proposed approach. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
