In the last decade, the water and electricity industry has experienced significant investments in smart grid technologies. Within a smart grid framework, information and energy engage in bidirectional transmission, opening up diverse applications for artificial intelligence, including artificial neural networks, machine learning, and deep learning. This comprehensive review investigates the dynamic landscape of deep learning methodologies applied to load forecasting within smart grids, spanning short-term (STLF), medium-term (MILF), and long-term (LTLF) Forecasting horizons. We scrutinize a range of techniques, encompassing Auto-Encoder Method, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM), Deep Belief Network (DBN), Deep Boltzmann Machine (DBM), Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), Attention Mechanisms, and Hybrid Models. This article introduces and reviews common deep-learning algorithms used in load forecasting for smart grids and power systems. It also offers a comparative assessment based on the reduction percentage in four indicators: accuracy, speed, mean absolute error (MAPE), and root mean square error (RMSE). The research aims to provide valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each deep learning method, guiding researchers and practitioners in making informed decisions when selecting the most suitable approach for diverse load forecasting scenarios in smart grid environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Wind and solar energy are two popular forms of renewable energy used in microgrids and facilitating the transition towards net-zero carbon emissions by ***,they are exceedingly unpredictable since they rely highly on weather and atmospheric *** microgrids,smart energy management systems,such as integrated demand response programs,are permanently established on a step-ahead basis,which means that accu-rate forecasting of wind speed and solar irradiance intervals is becoming increasingly crucial to the optimal operation and planning of *** this in mind,a novel“bidirectional long short-term memory network”(Bi-LSTM)-based,deep stacked,sequence-to-sequence autoencoder(S2SAE)forecasting model for predicting short-term solar irradiation and wind speed was developed and evaluated in *** create a deep stacked S2SAE prediction model,a deep Bi-LSTM-based encoder and decoder are stacked on top of one another to reduce the dimension of the input sequence,extract its features,and then reconstruct it to produce the *** of the proposed deep stacked S2SAE forecasting model were optimized using the Bayesian optimization ***,the forecasting performance of the proposed Bi-LSTM-based deep stacked S2SAE model was compared to three other deep,and shallow stacked S2SAEs,i.e.,the LSTM-based deep stacked S2SAE model,gated recurrent unit-based deep stacked S2SAE model,and Bi-LSTM-based shallow stacked S2SAE *** these models were also optimized and modeled in *** results simulated based on actual data confirmed that the proposed model outperformed the alternatives by achieving an accuracy of up to 99.7%,which evidenced the high reliability of the proposed forecasting.

Parameter optimization for hovering multi-rotor drones-based free-space optical links

Multi-rotor (MR) Drones have recently emerged as a viable method for creating flexible free-space optical (FSO) connections. In this study, we look at how precise parameters optimization can be used to evaluate the benefits of using MR Drones for such nanometer links, with consideration of the combined effect of atmospheric turbulence along with pointing error factor h_p. The related parameters of h_p are the connection distance d and pointing error angle (PEA) θ. In contrast to past studies on the subject, this one increased the connection distance d between drones swarm for high values PEAs that had been got high Bit Error Rate (BER). The system consists of two channels type: Single Input–Single Output (SISO) and Multiple Input–Single Output (MISO), and was simulated using MATLAB 2020. The results showed that for PEA θ=10 ^{- 3} and 10 ^{- 2} rad, the connection distance d increased from 5 to 20 percent per one centimeter increasing in the receiver diameter D_r, and for PEA θ=10 ^{- 1} rad, the connection distance d increased few meters;therefore, it is not recommended to increase the receiver diameter D_r. © 2021, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) encompasses a range of neurodevelopmental conditions, underscoring the need for early and accurate diagnosis. This study aims to identify regions of interest (ROIs) in the brain that significantly differ between children with ASD and typically developing subjects (TDS), enabling precise classification. We propose novel MR image registration algorithms using the ICBM152 digital atlas, applying both rigid and non-rigid transformations. The volumes of 116 gray matter regions were measured using the MNI-AAL atlas, aligned with ICBM152, and compared between the two groups. MR images from 26 typically developing and 26 autistic children, aged 5 to 10 years, were obtained from the ABIDE database. Our registration algorithms achieved a cross-correlation coefficient (CCC) of 0.82 for the ASD group, compared to 0.65 with SPM's Powell method. Non-rigid registration further improved the CCC to 0.88 and reduced convergence time by 2.8 times. Significant increases in gray matter volumes were observed in specific brain regions in the ASD group, consistent with the age-specific theory of autism. Finally, our SVM-based classification achieved 92.3% accuracy, with an F1-score of 90.1%, recall of 90.1%, and precision of 89.4%, demonstrating the method’s effectiveness in distinguishing ASD from TDS based on brain features. ©2024 IEEE.

Proposed 3D chaos-based medical image cryptosystem for secure cloud-IoMT eHealth communication services

Medical image encryption is a mandatory process in various healthcare, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and cloud services. This paper provides a robust cryptosystem based on a 3D chaotic map for the medical image encryption in secure IoMT and cloud services. The proposed encryption method depends on a 3D chaotic map. With this map, a nonlinear ciphering process is implemented for pixel value diffusion and position permutation. Five operations are conducted in the suggested cryptosystem on the medical images to be transmitted in order to attain a high security level. These operations are 3D chaos generation, chaos histogram equalization, row rotation, column rotation, and XOR operation. To validate the suggested cryptosystem, different medical images with different characteristics are tested. Moreover, the suggested cryptosystem and more recent state-of-the-art security systems are discussed and analyzed in a comparative study. Different assessment parameters are adopted to assess the suggested cryptosystem, which reveals high security performance. The simulation outcomes show that the suggested cryptosystem is trustworthy. Furthermore, it offers high robustness levels and recommended security levels for utilization in healthcare, IoMT and cloud service applications. It is observed that the amount of average entropy obtained by the proposed 3D chaos cryptosystem is 7.95 which is very close to its best value of 8, and the average NPCR value is 99.62% which is also much close to its supreme value of 99.60%. In addition, all other results scored for the test evaluation parameters on the suggested cryptosystem are superior to those of the traditional security systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2022.

Hybrid Optimization Algorithm for Handwritten Document Enhancement

The Gannet Optimization Algorithm (GOA) and the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) demonstrate strong performance;however, there remains room for improvement in convergence and practical applications. This study introduces a hybrid optimization algorithm, named the adaptive inertia weight whale optimization algorithm and gannet optimization algorithm (AIWGOA), which addresses challenges in enhancing handwritten documents. The hybrid strategy integrates the strengths of both algorithms, significantly enhancing their capabilities, whereas the adaptive parameter strategy mitigates the need for manual parameter setting. By amalgamating the hybrid strategy and parameter-adaptive approach, the Gannet Optimization Algorithm was refined to yield the AIWGOA. Through a performance analysis of the CEC2013 benchmark, the AIWGOA demonstrates notable advantages across various metrics. Subsequently, an evaluation index was employed to assess the enhanced handwritten documents and images, affirming the superior practical application of the AIWGOA compared with other algorithms.

Deep learning (DL), a dynamic subset of machine learning inspired by the human brain, has evolved into a transformative force, showcasing remarkable capabilities across diverse domains. Often referred to as the 'Artificial Neural Network,' DL involves neural networks with three or more layers. The integration of DL with the progression of Big Data has facilitated the deployment of intricate neural networks, enabling autonomous analysis of features and correlations within extensive datasets, whether structured or unstructured. Noteworthy is the heightened performance exhibited by DL algorithms when confronted with substantial volumes of data. This paper offers a comprehensive exploration of DL from multifaceted viewpoints, incorporating recent advancements in the field. Beyond elucidating the conceptual and theoretical foundations, the paper systematically addresses challenges, highlights advantages, and proposes solutions intrinsic to DL. Furthermore, it delves into future works in DL, identifying evolving trends and promising areas of exploration such as medical diagnostics, sports training, and energy-efficient approaches. Transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative games

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

Cars are heavily used in life, and therefore, the safety of passengers is a priority. Since the invention, the importance of airbags as a safety feature has always been used until today. Research indicates that they help to reduce the risk of severe injuries and fatalities during accidents. Therefore, they must be used in vehicles. This paper classifies car crash types for improved airbag performance as a measure to enhance passenger safety. The research is based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) company. The company provides multidimensional acceleration data and makes it available for public investigation on its website. Data will be analyzed and used to categorize of six different types of car accidents: frontal collision, oblique collision, rear collision, pole collision, offset collision, and rollover. The research covers 45 different vehicles including Honda, Toyota, Jeep, Genesis, Lexus, etc. This data makes a classification of the crash types possible and allows for differentiation among the 45 vehicles. We can also classify car types. Comparative analysis will be done based on the performance of machine learning algorithms and the results will be documented. Six machine learning algorithms are being compared, i.e., Decision Tree (DT), Adaboost Classifier, Random Forest (RF) Classifier, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Radial Basis Function (RBF), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) to find a model to distinguish different kinds of vehicles and different types of car crashes. From the comparison of DT, Adaboost, and RF algorithms with the other three algorithms, we have better accuracy, and we reached a more precise and accurate result of 100%. © 2024 IEEE.

Video and image quality improvement using an enhanced optimized dehazing technique

The detrimental effects of atmospheric haze frequently plague outdoor imagery. This phenomenon arises from the scattering of light by minute particles within the ambient environment surrounding the scene to be imaged. Haze engenders an overall whitening of the image, leading to diminished contrast. To address these issues and enhance the quality of hazy images and videos, an enhanced dehazing technique is proposed. The proposed technique includes image enhancement before the optimal dehazing process. The enhancement stage entails the implementation of both homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), serving to control the image dynamic range, while concurrently heightening the image contrast. The culminating stage encompasses an optimized dehazing technique, adept at expunging haze-induced artifacts from images. The homomorphic processing and CLAHE, applied in the pre-processing step, establish a foundation for the subsequent dehazing procedure. This proposed methodology is systematically applied to a gamut of visual outputs, including visible videos, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and authentic hazy images. Comparative evaluations of the proposed technique, homomorphic-processing-based enhanced dehazing, and standalone dehazing techniques is undertaken on different video types encompassing five frames. It is evident that the proposed technique, synergizing the homomorphic processing, CLAHE, and dehazing, outperforms alternative strategies. Furthermore, the proposed technique is subjected to a comparative study with various existing dehazing techniques over real hazy images. The assessment depends on Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), correlation, and entropy metrics. The results underscore the efficacy of the proposed technique, particularly in terms of spectral entropy enhancement of dehazed frames. For both visible and NIR frames, the percentages of enhancement by the proposed technique are 17.66% and 118.48%, respectively. ©
