Herein, we present a novel transparent antenna with ultra-wideband (UWB) performance along with polarization diversity through 4 ports allowing MIMO operation. The antenna design can be of a great interest for a vehicular applications and Internet of Things (IOT) where the dual polarization and multiple ports allows as well as medical glasses and vehicular windows where transparency is needed for visibility. The proposed antenna provides compact size with dimensions of 50 mm×50 mm, through the employment of CPW, dual orthogonal-polarization, isolation level of 20 dB, and envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of 0.0016 as well as MIMO performance.

Achieving effective locomotion for holonomic snake robots in diverse terrains for Search and Rescue (SAR) poses a significant challenge. While biological snakes exhibit complex mobility with the aid of anisotropic skin and a flexible body, replicating such capabilities in robotic systems demands specialised design considerations. This paper addresses designing and analysing anisotropic frictional skin to enhance the locomotion of holonomic snake robots in flat, variably friction environments. Two distinct frictional skins are developed and analysed through a peristaltic dynamic model. Moreover, comprehensive testing is conducted on various substrates to assess the effectiveness of the designed snakeskins. Experimental results indicate that a snake robot equipped with an interlocking-based skin on an Expanded Polystyrene substrate achieves small forward locomotion, while a Molecular Interaction-based skin enables sideways motion. This study provides insights into preliminary skin designs and locomotion tests conducted on flat surfaces, emphasising the need for further refinement to meet the demands of SAR applications.

This paper presents an improvement gain of a dual-polarized microstrip patch antenna by using the partially reflective surface (PRS). The PRS is designed from a 10 × 10 array patches structure, which is patterned on a 0.8-mm FR-4 substrate. A-dual-port fed by two SMA connectors, which is selected to use as the source of an experiment. The square metallic patch is used to design the PRS layer. The dimension of the square patch is 5 mm × 5 mm. The length of the square patch is varied from 3.0mm to 4.5 mm by step of 0.5 mm to investigate the reflection coefficients, e.g., magnitude response and phase response. Based on the simulated results, a 4.5-mm square patch provides the highest reflection coefficient of 0.53. To prove the design concept, the size of a square patch of 4.5 mm is selected to fabricate and measure the radiation pattern. At an operating frequency of 3.5 GHz, the maximum gain at the zero degrees is increased from 1.2 dBi to 4.96 dBi when compared without and with PRS. © 2022 IEEE.

Dual function radar communications (DFRC) systems are attractive technologies for autonomous vehicles, which utilize electromagnetic waves to constantly sense the environment while simultaneously communicating with neighbouring devices. An emerging approach to implementing DFRC systems is to embed information in radar waveforms via index modulation (IM). Implementation of DFRC schemes in vehicular systems gives rise to strict constraints in terms of cost, power efficiency, and hardware complexity. In this paper, we extend IM-based DFRC systems to utilizing sparse arrays and frequency modulated continuous waveforms (FMCWs), which are popular in automotive radar for their simplicity and low hardware complexity. The proposed FMCW-based radar-communications system (FRaC) operates at reduced cost and complexity by transmitting with a reduced number of radio frequency modules, combined with narrowband FMCW signalling. This is achieved via array sparsification in transmission, formulating a virtual multiple-input multiple-output array by combining the signals in one coherent processing interval, in which the narrowband waveforms are transmitted in a randomized manner. Performance analysis and numerical results show that the proposed radar scheme achieves similar resolution performance compared with a wideband radar system operating with a large receive aperture, while requiring less hardware overhead. For the communications subsystem, FRaC achieves higher rates and improved error rates compared to dual-function signalling based on conventional phase modulation. © 2007-2012 IEEE.

The integration of non-dispatchable renewable energy sources increases demands for the inclusion of modern technologies, such as High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) links and Energy Storage Systems (ESS), in the network expansion planning. Also, the current and future power network complexity demands more accurate models to provide more realistic solutions for the transmission expansion planning problem. However, there are no approaches that allow the selection of the proper technology in a unified and accurate TNEP formulation. This article proposes a non-convex formulation to solve the problem, using AC/DC transmission links and ESS. The Iterated Greedy (IG) algorithm is employed as an optimization technique to find good quality solutions. Since uncertainty in load and generation scenarios significantly impacts the Transmission Network Expansion Planning (TNEP), the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) technique is used to deal with their stochastic behavior. The advantages of the proposed approach are illustrated using a modified 6-bus Garver test system.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among females, often leading to complications like lymphedema. Current detection methods for lymphedema following breast cancer surgery are imprecise and time-consuming. We present a cost-effective and user-friendly contactless arm volumeter for accurate lymphedema detection. Our volumeter utilizes six depth cameras to capture a 3D arm representation. By combining the recorded depth points from multiple angles, we measure arm circumference and volume accurately. In a study with 25 volunteers, we compared volumeter measurements with standard methods using a tape measure and water displacement. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) assessed agreement and reliability. Results showed strong consistency agreement (ICC: 0.981 for volume, 0.868 for upper arm circumference, and 0.933 for lower arm circumference) and absolute agreement (ICC: 0.975 for volume, 0.866 for upper arm circumference, and 0.895 for lower arm circumference). Reliability was high (ICC: 0.993 for right arm volume, 0.975 for left arm volume, 0.988 for right arm circumference, 0.975 for left arm circumference (upper arm), and 0.948 for right arm circumference, 0.933 for left arm circumference (lower arm)). Our contactless arm volumeter is a reliable and cost-effective solution for detecting lymphedema after breast cancer surgery. Its ease of use and accuracy enable timely detection and treatment, potentially improving patient outcomes. Solar radiation forecasting is developed for electricity utilization in buildings to improve energy efficiency. In this paper, we first compare different machine learning methods for single-step solar radiation prediction, including multilayer perceptron (MLP), long short-term memory (LSTM), gradient boosting regression tree (GBRT), random forest (RF) and Informer. Then, we propose a hybrid model for short-term solar irradiation prediction, which is composed of a random forest model and an Informer model. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed hybrid model for balancing the accuracy-complexity tradeoff.

Passivity-Based control (PBC) has been successfully used to digitally control a stand-alone voltage source inverter (VSI) associated with the LC filter in recent years. A passivity-based control design methodology for three-phase VSI used in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems with low output voltage overshoot and quick settling times is proposed in this study. In a range of operating scenarios where linear and nonlinear loads are presented, the PBC controller's settings are designed using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique, which eliminates the difficulties of manual tuning and allows the damping parameters to be acquired more rapidly and effectively using MATLAB in online mode. In addition to the easy implementation and efficient computation of the PSO, the optimization tool is used in association with an enhanced passivity control technique, resulting in a decrease in overall total harmonics distortion (THD). The effects of various parameters on power converter performance are explored, and comparative simulation results are shown to demonstrate the value of the proposed passivity-based control design methodology based on the PSO technique.

This study is concerned with the comprehensive evaluation of machine learning models intended for the detection of hallucination in Large Language Model output. The preprocessing of the prompt and answers using TF-IDF vectorization has been done as a preliminary step before developing a hallucination prediction model. Afterwards, the generated dataset was then divided into training and testing, with percentages equal to 70% and 30%, respectively. The selected machine learning models were trained with the dataset created. In this research, eight various classifiers are implemented and compared. To evaluate the results of our approach, multiple metrics were taken into consideration: accuracy, precision, recall, and Fl-score. While the training results showed exceptional performance with accuracies exceeding 99% in several models, the test results indicated huge challenges in generalization. Random Forest had the highest testing accuracy of 94.77% at 65% precision but with a very low recall of 4.85%. Besides, cross validation is used with random forest and decision tree, the results showed that the cross-validation is better than the test and train splitting model. The study shows the significant trade-offs between precision and recall in hallucination detection, which is especially problematic while working with imbalanced datasets.

This paper presents the control system of a mobile robot, capable of detecting, tracking and following an object of a certain color. The mobile robot was created for educational purposes, in the CIM laboratory of the University of Oradea. It is based on a crawler robot, controlled with a Raspberry Pi development system. This system controls the movements necessary for tracking the object: moving forward, backward, left turn or right turn. For detecting and locating the object, the robot is also equipped with a video camera connected to Raspberry Pi. The acquisition and processing of images in real time, provided by the camera, are performed with programming functions provided by the OpenCV (Open Source computer Vision Library). These functions are implemented in a control program, written in Python language. In order to facilitate the tracking of the images obtained and processed during the movements, the robot has also been provided with a graphic display connected to the Raspberry Pi board. This paper also presents the implementation of a numerical control algorithm used for tracking the objects.
