A rectangular microstrip patch antenna (RMPA) is designed and analyzed in this paper. FR-4 is used as a substrate material, whose dielectric permittivity is 4.3. This antenna is designed and simulated using CST software. Return loss, VSWR, directive gain, and bandwidth are obtained from the given simulation. The results after simulation are return loss, VSWR, directive gain, and bandwidth of -55.7 dB, 1.0032, 6.81 dBi, and 110 MHz, respectively. The main objective of that paper was to increase return loss, bring the VSWR closer to 1, and increase directive gain. This antenna can be used in radars, mobile phones, and wireless LAN applications. © 2022 IEEE.

Generalization in medical segmentation models is challenging due to limited annotated datasets and imaging variability. To address this, we propose Retinal Layout-Aware Diffusion (RLAD), a novel diffusion-based framework for generating controllable layout-aware images. RLAD conditions image generation on multiple key layout components extracted from real images, ensuring high structural fidelity while enabling diversity in other components. Applied to retinal fundus imaging, we augmented the training datasets by synthesizing paired retinal images and vessel segmentations conditioned on extracted blood vessels from real images, while varying other layout components such as lesions and the optic disc. Experiments demonstrated that RLAD-generated data improved generalization in retinal vessel segmentation by up to 8.1%. Furthermore, we present REYIA, a comprehensive dataset comprising 586 manually segmented retinal images. To foster reproducibility and drive innovation, both our code and dataset will be made publicly accessible (upon publication). © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

For variable speed variable pitch wind turbine with constant torque control, PI variable pitch control is often used as traditional control strategies. The drive-train damping is too small, which is easy to cause resonance under wind disturbance. Based on the optimal control theory, this paper establishes a control-oriented model considering the dynamic of the drive-train, generator and pitch actuator. controller is designed by using Disturbance Accommodation control (DAC) augmented model which is an enhanced version of Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). Then, state is obtained and the disturbance is reconstructed by selecting suitable gain matrix of observer. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the LQR and PID controller are implemented on MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that LQR method has better adjustment effect on output power.

This article studies the utilization of dual-inverted L-shape grooves on a dual-band monopole antenna to enhance portable WiFi, WiMAX, and 5G capabilities. A monopole antenna design includes a rectangular stub with two inverted L-shaped grooves, allowing it to operate at two different frequencies simultaneously. During the process of creating the grooves on the rectangular stub, it was observed that the antenna structure resembles a T-shaped stub positioned on top of a U-shaped stub. The T-shaped stub is responsible for the antenna's low-frequency response at around 2.45GHz and 3.5GHz, whilst the U-shaped stub is used for impedance matching and provides at a frequency of 5.25GHz. Subsequently, the proposed antenna will be fabricated and evaluated, exhibiting an impedance characteristic of around 50.25% and 6.84% for |S11| at frequencies of 3.04GHz and 5.25GHz, respectively. It is important to note that | S11| remains below -10 dB over the whole operational frequency range. Moreover, the antenna shows a gain of roughly 2.18 dB, 3.31 dBi and 2 dB at frequencies of 2.45GHz, 3.5GHz, and 5.25GHz, respectively. Additionally, the suggested antenna exhibits an omnidirectional. In addition, the proposed antenna possesses dimensions in both portable WiFi, WiMAX, and 5G networks. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstracting Linear Stochastic Systems via Knowledge Filtering

In this paper, we propose a new model reduction technique for linear stochastic systems that builds upon knowledge filtering and utilizes optimal Kalman filtering techniques. This new technique will reduce the dimension of the noise disturbance and will allow any controller designed for the reduced model to be refined into a controller for the original stochastic system, while preserving any specification on the output. Although initially the reduced model will be time-varying, a method will be provided with which the reduced model can become time-invariant if it satisfies some minor technical conditions. We present our theoretical findings with an example that supports the proposed framework and illustrates how model reduction and controller refinement of stochastic systems can be achieved. We finish the paper by considering specific examples to analyze both completeness with respect to controller synthesis and model order reduction with respect to the state. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

The emphasis on project-based learning (PBL) persists in enhancing engineering curriculum by giving students hands-on experience with real-world experiments, preparing them for the industry. Collaboration between academia and industry allows students to address actual industry challenges through PBL. This platform provides students with genuine learning experiences and industry practices that inspire them throughout their studies. It is important to highlight that South African institutions previously struggled to engage industry partners for educational *** current systematic literature review study wishes to investigate the importance of industry partnerships on PBL within engineering education to benefit both students and industry *** systematic literature review methodology seemed appropriate for the current study due to its nature of extensively reviewing credible electronic databases. The electronic databases opted for included IEEE Xplore, ERIC, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Elsevier, and Google Scholar. The keywords considered in this study included "project-based learning," "industry partnerships," and "engineering education." The inclusion and exclusion criteria focused on articles credible articles and peer-reviewed conference publications between 2010 and *** industry partnership through PBL equips students with lifelong experiences coupled with problem-solving skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and professional competencies. Academics are also afforded opportunities for industry secondment where they spend some time in industry while being exposed to the latest technologies to enhance their teaching capabilities. This paper proposes two nonlinear dynamics (one agent-based and one link-based) to solve a constrained distributed optimization (resource allocation) problem over a multi-agent network. The sum-preserving coupling refers to the constant amount of resources in the allocation problem. The proposed protocols consider model nonlinearities on agents, including, but not limited to, quantization and saturation. Further, it can be adapted to specific applications, e.g., to reach faster convergence to the optimal value or to design robust dynamics in the presence of impulsive noise or uncertainties. The two nonlinear agent dynamics are considered in both continuous- and discrete-time. For both cases, we prove convergence over weakly connected networks using convex analysis and Lyapunov theory. The convergence proof, in general, is independent of the specific nonlinearities (or their composition) and holds for specific strongly sign-preserving nonlinear models. This work further proposes two different delay-tolerant mechanisms (in discrete-time) to handle bounded heterogeneous time-varying delays: (1) for general unknown delays, the protocol updates the states over a longer time scale so that at least one packet is received/sent over each link;(2) for known delays, the protocol updates at the same time-scale of the dynamics using all the received time-stamped *** consider distributed generator power allocation over the smart grid as an application. This paper advances the state-of-the-art by addressing (i) possible nonlinearities on the agents' model, meanwhile handling (ii) solution feasibility at all times, (iii) uniform-connectivity instead of all-time connectivity, and, finally, (iv) possible heterogeneous and time-varying delays over the network. To our best knowledge, no existing work addresses contributions (i)-(iv) altogether. An Entanglement Generation Switch (EGS) is a quantum network hub that provides entangled states to a set of connected nodes by enabling them to share a limited number of hub resources. As entanglement requests arrive, they join dedicated queues corresponding to the nodes from which they originate. We propose a load-balancing policy wherein the EGS queries nodes for entanglement requests by randomly sampling d of all available request queues and choosing the longest of these to service. This policy is an instance of the well-known power-of-d-choices paradigm previously introduced for classical systems such as data-centers. In contrast to previous models, however, we place queues at nodes instead of directly at the EGS, which offers some practical advantages. Additionally, we incorporate a tunable back-off mechanism into our load-balancing scheme to reduce the classical communication load in the network. To study the policy, we consider a homogeneous star network topology that has the EGS at its center, and model it as a queueing system with requests that arrive according to a Poisson process and whose service times are exponentially distributed. We provide an asymptotic analysis of the system by deriving a set of differential equations that describe the dynamics of the mean-field limit and provide expressions for the corresponding unique equilibrium state. Consistent with analogous results from randomized load-balancing for classical systems, we observe a significant decrease in the average request processing time when the number of choices d increases from one to two during the sampling process, with diminishing returns for a higher number of choices. We also observe that our mean-field model provides a good approximation to study even moderately-sized systems.

This study presents a new algorithm for training flexible perceptron multilayer neural networks. This algorithm is based on the multi-objective evolutionary optimization and tries to find the smallest optimal structure simultaneously by reducing the network error. In this method, a compatibility is established between the mean squared error and the vector length of the parameters of the activation functions by using flexible neurons which cause a greater degree of freedom leading to a faster convergence of the neural network. Then, the network structure decreases and the problem of overfitting and local minimum is prevented based on the values of these parameters and the use of the integration method of neurons. Moreover, it increases the power of the generalizability of the neural network. This method was used for classification problems, and the results were compared with AMGA, BCPA, LASSO, and Early Stopping methods. Based on the results, the algorithm proposed in this study usually works better compared to the similar algorithms. In addition, the proposed algorithm is a systematic method for finding the optimal neural network structure.

In this paper, the radar target identification system for inspection of rail sweep is proposed. In the proposed system, the short pulse is transmitted to impinge the rail and the signal scattered from the rail is then received to perform the signal processing for identification. The matrix pencil method is employed to extract poles from the late-time response of the scattering signal. Extracted poles are exploited as unique signatures of the individual rail defection. One of the most defections due to the manufacturing production errors is the rail sweep. In this paper, simulations were conducted to validate that the extracted poles from the response of the normal rail is different from those of the swept rail. The BS100A rails with different sweep angles i.e. 0°, 10°, 15°, 30° and 45° are modeled by using CST microwave studio. The simulation results show that poles extracted from the late-time response of the normal rail are significantly different from those of the swept one. The simulation results confirmed the superiority of the proposed system over the conventional one using the visual inspection. © 2021 IEEE.
