The pursuit of higher data rates and efficient spectrum utilization in modern communication technologies necessitates novel solutions. In order to provide insights into improving spectral efficiency and reducing latency, this study investigates the maximum channel coding rate (MCCR) of finite block length (FBL) multiple-input multiple-output faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) channels. By optimizing power allocation, we derive the system's MCCR expression. Simulation results are compared with the existing literature to reveal the benefits of FTN in FBL transmission.

Forests are an essential part of the environment which plays a vital role in sustaining ecological balance and providing habitat to different wildlife. Wildfires are one of the serious threats to forests which create a devastating impact on the natural ecosystem. Early identification of smoke and wildfires will help to reduce damage and support a quick reaction. Earlier, wildfire and smoke detection in forests were very difficult due to the challenging forest terrain, low light conditions, and difficult weather conditions. With the development in technology, several computer vision methods are combined with satellite and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) data to correctly identify wildfires, but accuracy is still a concern with these models. This paper introduced a novel method to detect wildfire and smoke in forests utilizing fine-tuned YOLOv11n using an aerial vehicle dataset. The mAP of the fine-tuned YOLOv11n is 88.6%, with a precision of 100% and an F1-score of 85%. The number of parameters has decreased by 30% compared to its previous models, and the model size is only 5.5MB.

Voltage sag is common power quality issue that disturb load operation and need attention. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is an effective solution for voltage sags compensation. However, the conventional DVR, consisting of a DC source and an inverter, is utilised only during voltage sag events, which raises economic feasibility concerns. This paper introduces a novel approach that integrates the DVR with the power converter with the aim of mitigating grid voltage sags that the converter may encounter. The proposed method involves combining the DVR directly with the converter, eliminating the need for a DC source and a separate DC-AC inverter within the DVR. Such an integration provides a cost-effective and efficient solution for voltage sag mitigation. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated by simulation studies, demonstrating its reasonability and its capability to compensate for voltage sags. The results highlight the potential advantages of this integrated system in ensuring uninterrupted converter operation.

In recent decades, the demand for energy and the need to improve power systems' efficiency have made hybrid AC/DC systems an effective solution. They are crucial for integrating renewable energy sources (RESs), like wind farms, into power systems. One of the significant challenges in managing these systems is the optimal power flow (OPF) problem. In hybrid AC/DC systems, the AC and DC networks are interconnected, so both must be modelled together, increasing the complexity of this problem. Furthermore, uncertainties in load demand and RES outputs make optimisation more complex, leading to fluctuations in system performance. Thus, risk management becomes essential. The Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) tool effectively manages risks and comprehensively evaluates system performance under uncertainty. By incorporating CVaR into the OPF problem, which typically aims to minimise operational costs, more reliable solutions can be achieved by considering risks. This paper proposes a novel framework for solving the extended OPF problem in hybrid AC/DC systems by applying the CVaR criterion to the voltage magnitude deviation index (VDI) of buses, aiming to minimise costs and effectively manage risks associated with system uncertainties and fluctuations, particularly those arising from the integration of RESs. The proposed method is evaluated on the IEEE 39-bus test system.

In this article, influence of aluminum eddy current in the PSRM stator array on the electromagnetic properties and control performance is investigated. The eddy current density distribution model is established based on Maxwell’s equations, and the inductance model is derived considering the eddy current effect. The effect of aluminum eddy current on the PSRM position control performance is qualitatively analyzed. The aluminum eddy current distribution and ohmic loss distribution characteristics with the mover at different positions are verified by finite element analysis. The validity of the developed inductance model is experimentally verified. A material replacement method is proposed to eliminate the aluminum eddy current. The experimental results show that the position control accuracy of the PSRM prototype is improved by 6.94% on average after the elimination of eddy currents, while the motor efficiency is improved by 6.51%.
