In machine learning, one of the methods to solve multiclass classification problems is a framework called Error-Correcting Output Codes (ECOC), which constructs a multiclass classifier by combining a lot of binary classifiers. ECOC assigns binary codewords to each category, and the multiclass classification performance varies depending on the code. In this study, we treat each element of the codeword as a random variable and evaluate the average performance of ECOC. As a result, for M class classification if the number of binary classifiers is O(M), then the average error probability of various codes approaches that of MAP estimation. We show that the important points are the ratio between the number of binary classifiers and M and the difference between the maximum posterior probability and the second highest posterior probability for the categories. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents an overview on intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-enabled sensing and communication for the forthcoming sixth-generation(6G) wireless networks, in which IRSs are strategically deployed to proactively reconfigure wireless environments to improve both sensing and communication(S&C) performance. First, we exploit a single IRS to enable wireless sensing in the base station's(BS's) non-line-of-sight(NLoS) area. In particular, we present three IRS-enabled NLoS target sensing architectures with fully-passive, semi-passive, and active IRSs, respectively. We compare their pros and cons by analyzing the fundamental sensing performance limits for target detection and parameter estimation. Next, we consider a single IRS to facilitate integrated sensing and communication(ISAC), in which the transmit signals at the BS are used for achieving both S&C functionalities, aided by the IRS through reflective beamforming. We present joint transmit signal and receiver processing designs for realizing efficient ISAC, and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and reflective beamforming at the IRS to balance the fundamental performance tradeoff between S&C. Furthermore, we discuss multi-IRS networked ISAC, by particularly focusing on multi-IRS-enabled multi-link ISAC, multi-region ISAC, and ISAC signal routing, respectively. Finally, we highlight various promising research topics in this area to motivate future work.

Wi-SFDAGR: WiFi-Based Cross-Domain Gesture Recognition via Source-Free Domain Adaptation

WiFi Channel State Information (CSI)-based gesture recognition offers unique advantages, including cost-effectiveness and enhanced privacy protection, and has garnered significant attention in recent years. However, existing WiFi-based gesture recognition solutions exhibit poor generalization ability when deployed in new environment, orientation, or location. Although some methods combine labeled source domain and unlabeled target domain to learn domain-independent features, factors such as data privacy protection hinder access to source data during practical environment adaptation. Consequently, we consider realistic scenario where source data is unavailable during adaptation of unlabeled test data, and instead, a trained source domain model is used. In this paper, we propose Wi-SFDAGR, a WiFi-based Source-free Domain Adaptation Gesture Recognition framework. Specifically, we treat cross-domain as an unsupervised clustering problem, aiming to ensure that features within local neighborhoods exhibit similar prediction results while those farther apart display different prediction outcomes in the feature space. We theoretically analyze the effect of enhanced prediction consistency between neighbor points extracted from gestures on generalization error. Furthermore, we employ an attraction-dispersion network to strengthen prediction consistency among closely located features in the feature space while reducing it for distantly located features. To mitigate noise introduced during nearest neighbor sample selection in the feature space (where predictions may not align with the input sample’s prediction), we progressively improve nearby sample feature aggregation by estimating uncertainty to reweight local neighborhood predictions. Finally, extensive experiments are conducted on the Widar 3.0 and XRF55 datasets and the results show our proposed framework outperforms most cross-domain methods. © 2014 IEEE.

Satellite-aerial-ground integrated network (SAGIN) is considered to be an advanced architecture that offers seamless coverage, flexible access, and efficient connectivity. However, several challenges emerge during the construction of SAGINs, which include complex propagation environments and limited spectrum resources. The aforementioned challenges can be addressed in a cost effective manner by integrating simultaneous transmission and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs). The STAR-RISs are capable of reflecting and transmitting the incident signals passively in order to serve users on both sides of the panel. Given the self-organizing nature of STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs, meticulous resource allocation and transmission strategy adaptation are imperative to accommodate changes in multiple communication node environments. Recently, federated learning has been envisioned as a pioneering distributed machine learning (ML) approach for managing the multi-objective optimization problem in STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs. This approach strives to balance the trade-offs between wireless communication performance and model efficiency. In this work, we present the advantages and potential directions for employing federated learning in STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs through multi-objectives optimization. Furthermore, to illustrate the practical application of federated learning in STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs, we present two case studies utilizing federated deep reinforcement learning, based on the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme. © 2017 IEEE.

Optimum Achievable Rates in Two Random Number Generation Problems with f-Divergences Using Smooth Rényi Entropy

Two typical fixed-length random number generation problems in information theory are considered for general sources. One is the source resolvability problem and the other is the intrinsic randomness problem. In each of these problems, the optimum achievable rate with respect to the given approximation measure is one of our main concerns and has been characterized using two different information quantities: the information spectrum and the smooth Rényi entropy. Recently, optimum achievable rates with respect to f-divergences have been characterized using the information spectrum quantity. The f-divergence is a general non-negative measure between two probability distributions on the basis of a convex function f. The class of f-divergences includes several important measures such as the variational distance, the KL divergence, the Hellinger distance and so on. Hence, it is meaningful to consider the random number generation problems with respect to f-divergences. However, optimum achievable rates with respect to f-divergences using the smooth Rényi entropy have not been clarified yet in both of two problems. In this paper we try to analyze the optimum achievable rates using the smooth Rényi entropy and to extend the class of f-divergence. To do so, we first derive general formulas of the first-order optimum achievable rates with respect to f-divergences in both problems under the same conditions as imposed by previous studies. Next, we relax the conditions on f-divergence and generalize the obtained general formulas. Then, we particularize our general formulas to several specified functions f. As a result, we reveal that it is easy to derive optimum achievable rates for several important measures from our general formulas. Furthermore, a kind of duality between the resolvability and the intrinsic randomness is revealed in terms of the smooth Rényi entropy. Image co-segmentation and co-localization exploit inter-image information to identify and extract foreground objects with a batch mode. However, they remain challenging when confronted with large object variations or complex backgrounds. This paper proposes a multi-view graph embedding (MV-Gem) learning scheme which integrates diversity, robustness and discernibility of object features to alleviate this phenomenon. To encourage the diversity, the deep co-information containing both low-layer general representations and high-layer semantic information is generated to form a multi-view feature pool for comprehensive co-object description. To enhance the robustness, a multi-view adaptive weighted learning is formulated to fuse the deep co-information for feature complementation. To ensure the discernibility, the graph embedding and sparse constraint are embedded into the fusion formulation for feature selection. The former aims to inherit important structures from multiple views, and the latter further selects important features to restrain irrelevant backgrounds. With these techniques, MV-Gem gradually recovers all co-objects through optimization iterations. Extensive experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that MV-Gem is capable of locating and delineating co-objects in an image group. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

The Diabetes Disease Prediction System is based on predictive modeling, which forecasts the user's disease based on the information that the user inputs to the system, including the number of pregnancies, age, weight, blood pressure, insulin, glucose, and other factors contributing to diabetes. The system evaluates the data supplied by the user as input and outputs the likelihood of the prediction. Nowadays, better production results are key for machine learning activities. Research has been conducted on a dataset from the Kaggle data set where single machine learning algorithms have been applied, and recorded results have been compared with results of multialgorithms of machine learning using neural networks. Some major classification algorithms, Random Forest, SVM, and Hybrid model of SVM and Random Forest, have been broadly utilized to anticipate the disease, where different accuracies were obtained. data preprocessing and feature selection were performed before building the models to increase the model's accuracy. Evaluation of the models in the proposed paper is based on the model's accuracy. The hybrid model performed best with 83% accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Robotics has been playing a vital role in our daily lives with a wide range of applications to improve the quality of life. With a variety of usable applications in the medical, manufacturing, and transportation industries, there is a continuous need for improving the performance of robotics for the importance of precision in executing commands and tasks. The implementation of precise commands has led to intense research on approaches to improve the performance of robotics. Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) have been drawing attention to applying architectures and algorithms to robotics which imposed a positive impact on the field of robotics. ML and DL applications in robotics include areas of computer vision, imitation learning, self-supervised learning, assistive and medical technologies, multi-agent learning, and manufacturing.
