The recent development of advanced machine learning methods for hybrid models has greatly addressed the need for the correct prediction of electrical prices. This method combines AlexNet and LSTM algorithms, which are used to introduce a new model with higher accuracy in price forecasting. Despite RNN and ANN being effective, they often fail to deal with forex time sequence data. The traditional methods do not accurately forecast the prices. These traditional methods only focus on demand and price which leads to insufficient analysis of data. To address this issue, using the hybrid approach, which focuses on external variables that also effect the predicted prices. Nevertheless, due to AlexNet's excellent feature extraction and LSTM's learning sequential patterns, the prediction accuracy is vastly increased. The model is built on the past data, which has been supplied with the most significant elements like demand, temperature, sunlight, and rain. For example, the model applies methods, such as minimum-maximum scaling and a time window, to predict the electricity prices of the future. The results show that this hybrid model is good than the standalone ones in terms of accuracy. Although we got our accuracy rating of 97.08, it shows higher accompaniments than remaining models RNN and ANN with accuracies of 96.64 and 96.63 respectively.

This paper has demonstrated the high efficient net gain and low noise figure based vertical cavity semiconductor light amplifiers for wavelength division multiplexing applications. Previous study on the chip reflective gain variations versus SOA current under temperature effects is clarified. We have transferred light semiconductor amplifiers for wavelength multiplexing schemes applications. Amplifier output power is demonstrated with bias current and amplifier active layer region length variations based input signal power of 3, 6.5, 10 dBm, 1550 nm wavelength and optimum amplifier confinement factor of 0.45. The amplifier output noise variations are clarified against the bias current and amplifier active layer region width variations based input signal power of 3, 6.5, 10 dBm, 1550 nm wavelength and optimum amplifier confinement factor of 0.45. The output OSNR variations are studied clearly and deeply against the bias current and amplifier active layer region length variations based input signal power of 3, 6.5, 10 dBm, 1550 nm wavelength and optimum amplifier confinement factor of 0.45. The signal loss is demonstrated versus both active layer width/length and temperature based optimum 30 % gallium core dopant ratio and 28 % arsenide cladding dopant ratio at optimum input signal power of 10 dBm, 1550 nm wavelength and optimum amplifier confinement factor of 0.45. SOA amplifier output power can be enhance with the management of both bias current and input signal power and the reduction of active amplifier length. Feature selection is a cornerstone in advancing the accuracy and efficiency of predictive models, particularly in nuanced domains like socio-economic analysis. This study explores nine distinct feature selection methods, utilizing a heart disease dataset as a representative model for complex socio-economic systems. Our findings identified four universally recognized features as critical across all selection methods. However, the divergence in significance attributed to other features by different methods underscores the inherent variability in selection techniques. When the top four features were incorporated into twelve classification models, a noticeable surge in predictive accuracy was observed, emphasizing their foundational role in enhancing model outcomes. The variations among methods stress the need for a methodical and discerning approach to feature selection, especially in data-rich socio-economic landscapes. As we venture further into an era defined by data-driven decision-making, rigour and precision in feature selection become indispensable. Future research should extend this approach to broader datasets, ensuring the robustness and adaptability of our findings. © The author(s) 2025.

Admitting Ignorance Helps the Video Question Answering Models to Answer

Significant progress has been made in the field of video question answering (VideoQA) thanks to deep learning and large-scale pretraining. Despite the presence of sophisticated model structures and powerful video-text foundation models, most existing methods focus solely on maximizing the correlation between answers and video-question pairs during training. We argue that these models often establish shortcuts, resulting in spurious correlations between questions and answers, especially when the alignment between video and text data is suboptimal. To address these spurious correlations, we propose a novel training framework in which the model is compelled to acknowledge its ignorance when presented with an intervened question, rather than making guesses solely based on superficial question-answer correlations. We introduce methodologies for intervening in questions, utilizing techniques such as displacement and perturbation, and design frameworks for the model to admit its lack of knowledge in both multi-choice VideoQA and open-ended settings. In practice, we integrate a state-of-the-art model into our framework to validate its effectiveness. The results clearly demonstrate that our framework can significantly enhance the performance of VideoQA models with minimal structural modifications. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. AUTHFi: Cross-Technology Device Authentication via Commodity WiFi

The explosive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has dramatically increased the demand for secure mechanisms to protect against unauthorized access and attacks. Traditionally, expensive Software-Defined Radios (SDRs) have been utilized to gather IoT physical features, which are critical for reliable authentication. However, the high cost of SDRs makes them impractical for widespread deployment across the vast and diverse IoT ecosystem. In contrast, this paper presents AUTHFi, a novel cross-technology device authentication framework that transforms the SDR approach for collecting and authenticating IoT device signals (e.g., ZigBee and Bluetooth) by utilizing commercial WiFi devices. Specifically, AUTHFi leverages the recent advances in Cross-Technology Communication (CTC) to reconstruct the partial waveform of IoT transmission, thus eliminating the requirement for expensive SDRs. AUTHFi requires us to address several unique challenges. First, AUTHFi compensates for signal losses of the partial waveform to get more signal information. Then, it introduces an enhanced Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO) estimation and a fusion neural network that combines CFO and the reconstructed waveform for accurate device authentication. We implement AUTHFi based on RTL8812au (commodity WiFi) and CC2652P (commodity ZigBee/Bluetooth). Our thorough evaluation confirms that AUTHFi offers reliable authentication under various settings, achieving a maximum accuracy of 94.2%. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

We report on the design, development and prototype testing of gensimo (GENeric Social Insurance MOdeling), a free and open-source software framework for modelling and simulation of social insurance systems. We discuss the conceptual and software design considerations of the framework in general before demonstrating how it works in detail by setting it up to model a particular social insurance scheme. We then present how we used this prototype set up to model the impact of a policy intervention on the workload of the insurer. While gensimo is under active development and we are a while away from serious verification and validation, this prototype testing shows realistic results. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Phantom Events: Demystifying the Issues of Log Forgery in Blockchain

With the rapid development of blockchain technology, transaction logs play a central role in various applications, including decentralized exchanges, wallets, cross-chain bridges, and other third-party services. However, these logs, particularly those based on smart contract events, are highly susceptible to manipulation and forgery, creating substantial security risks across the ecosystem. To address this issue, we present the first in-depth security analysis of transaction log forgery in EVM-based blockchains, a phenomenon we term Phantom Events. We systematically model five types of attacks and propose a tool designed to detect event forgery vulnerabilities in smart contracts. Our evaluation demonstrates that our approach outperforms existing tools in identifying potential phantom events. Furthermore, we have successfully identified real-world instances for all five types of attacks across multiple decentralized applications. The HVAC system, energy storage building, distributed power supply, and other equipment are integrated into the scheduling algorithm, which is aimed at reducing household electricity consumption. It is also assumed that users can provide energy to the grid according to their own conditions. Taking electricity cost and comfort level as optimization targets, a home energy optimization control model for the coordinated management of hybrid energy sources is built. A smart scheduling mechanism based on the improved adaptive particle swarm optimization approach is proposed in order to derive the best time intervals for electric appliances, necessary power for the control of the room temperature for every time frame, and power for charging and discharging of the storage battery at various moments. Simulation results show that through the incorporation of distributed photovoltaic power generation, backup storage by battery, and home energy optimization control, the system efficiently balances between user comfort and electricity consumption. This offers great technical support to the development of home energy management systems. By using time-of-use electricity price for energy acquisition and supply, the optimization control goal is minimizing both power use and cost as well as preserving comfort levels. The hybrid energy management's proposed home energy optimization control model uses an adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm to find the optimal operation schedules of the electrical appliances, the required power for temperature control in a room, and the charge/discharge power level of the storage battery at each time interval. As per the optimization principle, the proposed dynamic programming algorithm converts the multi-stage problem into a sequence of single-stage problems and solves them separately. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs) comprises large-scale sensors deployed to monitor and control the system. Deploying IoT devices presents challenges due to frequent disconnections and sudden power drainage in intermediate devices responsible for routing data. Consequently, the deployed network becomes sporadic, hindering connectivity with the industrial controller system, especially critical during emergencies. Furthermore, IoT node failures lead to a short network lifetime, which is intolerable in real-time industrial applications. This paper introduces a multi-hop clustering framework designed for reliable communication in industrial environments. The framework dynamically forms clusters, employing cluster heads and backup nodes to stabilize communication in the absence of a cluster head. Each cluster selects a backup node during the initial cluster head selection and later through data piggybacking. The proposed framework provides efficient communication across the IIoT network with the help of a backup and multi-hop clustering mechanism. The proposed framework is compared with two existing protocols i.e. cluster-based coordination routing (CRC) and energy-efficient quality of service routing (EEQSRP) protocols. Quantitative Error Bounds for Scaling Limits of Stochastic Iterative Algorithms

Stochastic iterative algorithms, including stochastic gradient descent (SGD) and stochastic gradient Langevin dynamics (SGLD), are widely utilized for optimization and sampling in large-scale and high-dimensional problems in machine learning, statistics, and engineering. Numerous works have bounded the parameter error in, and characterized the uncertainty of, these approximations. One common approach has been to use scaling limit analyses to relate the distribution of algorithm sample paths to a continuous-time stochastic process approximation, particularly in asymptotic setups. Focusing on the univariate setting, in this paper, we build on previous work to derive non-asymptotic functional approximation error bounds between the algorithm sample paths and the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck approximation using an infinite-dimensional version of Stein's method of exchangeable pairs. We show that this bound implies weak convergence under modest additional assumptions and leads to a bound on the error of the variance of the iterate averages of the algorithm. Furthermore, we use our main result to construct error bounds in terms of two common metrics: the Lévy-Prokhorov and bounded Wasserstein distances.
