Information retrieval in folksonomies: Search and ranking

Social bookmark tools are rapidly emerging on the Web. In such systems users are setting up lightweight conceptual structures called folksonomies. The reason for their immediate success is the fact that no specific skills are needed for participating. At the moment, however, the information retrieval support is limited. We present a formal model and a new search algorithm for folksonomies, called FolkRank, that exploits the structure of the folksonomy. The proposed algorithm is also applied to find communities within the folksonomy and is used to structure search results. All findings are demonstrated on a large scale dataset. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

Sequence-to-Sequence (S2S) models recently started to show state-of-the-art performance for automatic speech recognition (ASR). With these large and deep models overfitting remains the largest problem, outweighing performance improvements that can be obtained from better architectures. One solution to the overfitting problem is increasing the amount of available training data and the variety exhibited by the training data with the help of data augmentation. In this paper we examine the influence of three data augmentation methods on the performance of two S2S model architectures. One of the data augmentation method comes from literature, while two other methods are our own development - a time perturbation in the frequency domain and sub-sequence sampling. Our experiments on Switchboard and Fisher data show state-of-the-art performance for S2S models that are trained solely on the speech training data and do not use additional text data.

Text analytics directly on compression (TADOC) is a promising technology designed for handling big data analytics. However, a substantial amount of DRAM is required for high performance, which limits its usage in many important scenarios where the capacity of DRAM is limited, such as memory-constrained systems. Non-volatile memory (NVM) is a novel storage technology that combines the advantage of reading per-formance and byte addressability of DRAM with the durability of traditional storage devices like SSD and HDD. Unfortunately, no research demonstrates how to use NVM to reduce DRAM utilization in compressed data analytics. In this paper, we propose N-TADOC, which substitutes DRAM with NVM while maintaining TADOC's analytics performance and space savings. Utilizing an NVM block device to reduce DRAM utilization presents two challenges, including poor data locality in traversing datasets and auxiliary data structure reconstruction on NVM. We develop novel designs to solve these challenges, including a pruning method with NVM pool management, bottom-up upper bound estimation, correspondent data structures, and persistence strategy at different levels of cost. Experimental results show that on four real-world datasets, N-TADOC achieves 2.04× performance speedup compared to the processing directly on the uncompressed data and 70.7% DRAM space saving compared to the original TADOC.

In contrast to electrograms, Body-Surface Potential Mapping (BSPM) records the global atrial activity, at the expenses of a lower spatial accuracy. The aim of this study is to investigate whether BSPM recordings can discriminate persistent patients undergoing electrical cardiover-sion, based on the body-surface normalized AF spatial frequency distribution. High-density BSPMs (120 anterior, 64 posterior electrodes) were recorded in 63 patients with persistent AF. For each patient and electrode recording, the frequency content of AF was analyzed on the raw signal, and also by means of the normalized correlation function, and by Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA). In order to compare the body-surface spatial distributions of AF frequency in all patients, these distributions were first normalized, before performing statistical analysis. We found that the distribution of AF frequency on the body-surface, and its interpretation, are strongly dependent on the specific method employed. Moreover, the estimated body-surface AF frequency was greater over the central posterior and the right anterior BSPM locations. Finally, SSA-based decomposition followed by frequency analysis could discriminate AF patients recurring 4 to 6 weeks after electrical cardioversion from those who did not, based on the frequency content in the proximity of V1. © 2021 Creative Commons.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of noninvasive reconstructions of epicardial potentials, electrograms, activation and recovery isochrones, and beat origins by simultaneously performing electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI) and invasive epicardial electrography in intact animals. Background Noninvasive imaging of electrical potentials at the epicardium, known as ECGI, is increasingly applied in patients to assess normal and abnormal cardiac electrical activity. Methods Body-surface potentials and epicardial potentials were recorded in normal anesthetized dogs. Computed tomography scanning provided a torso-heart geometry that was used to reconstruct epicardial potentials from body-surface potentials. Results Electrogram reconstructions attained a moderate accuracy compared with epicardial recordings (median correlation coefficient: 0.71), but with considerable variation (interquartile range: 0.36 to 0.86). This variation could be explained by a spatial mismatch (overall resolution was <20 mm) that was most apparent in regions with electrographic transition. More accurate derivation of activation times (Pearson R: 0.82), recovery times (R: 0.73), and the origin of paced beats (median error: 10 mm;interquartile range: 7 to 17 mm) was achieved by a spatiotemporal approach that incorporates the characteristics of the respective electrogram and neighboring electrograms. Reconstruction of beats from repeated single-site pacing showed a stable localization of origin. Cardiac motion, currently ignored in ECGI, correlates negatively with reconstruction accuracy. Conclusions ECGI shows a decent median accuracy, but variability in electrogram reconstruction can be sizable. At present, therefore, clinical interpretations of ECGI should not be made on the basis of single electrograms only. Incorporating local spatiotemporal characteristics allows for accurate reconstruction of epicardial activation and recovery patterns, and beat origin localization

In this paper a framework for warning people when they are at risk of unhealthy eating is presented. data is collected trough a mo- bile application called “ThinkSlim” which was developed for the purpose of studying eating behavior using Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) principles. data is converted in order to allow early prediction of healthy and unhealthy eating events and a decision tree algorithm taking into account the longitudinal structure of the dataset is utilized to predict healthy versus unhealthy eating events. Rules that are derived from this decision tree are used to cluster users to groups based on the rule triggering frequen- cies. Groups created are used for providing users with semi-tailored feedback and are analyzed providing useful insights regarding the conditions that lead to unhealthy eating among different participants allowing for building different eating profiles.

As Linked data technologies mature geospatial data institutions are seeking to exploit these advantages and selectively serve their commercially valuable data to customers on the web. An access control solution is required to ensure customers are not accessing unauthorized data. In this paper we present a fine grained and flexible access control method for geospatial Linked data. Our declarative approach provides a vocabulary to model data licenses and templates. A license models what a customer is allowed to access at a fine granularity and a template models how data is allowed to be accessed. Each template contains variables and the values that these variables are allowed to contain are specified. This provides great flexibility and allows the creation of templates for a range of different data access use cases. We propose an implementation architecture for our approach which proposes a license and template-based access control web service that sits on top of a triple store, SPARQL processor and a RESTful API for access. We also present a case study where a prototype implementation of our access control approach was applied to Ordnance Survey Ireland's controlled access geospatial Linked data. © CEUR-WS. Traffic congestion is a very serious problem in large cities. With the number of vehicles increasing rapidly, especially in cities whose economy is booming, the situation is getting even worse. In this paper, by leveraging the techniques of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) we present a real-time abnormal traffic data dissemination protocol. Specifically, all vehicles running on the same road segment are regarded as a cluster to generate traffic message about this segment. To reduce communication cost, only abnormal traffic data is issued and spread to nearby road segments. By employing event-driven and period combined mechanism, the abnormal traffic messages are disseminated to the vehicles that probably need the messages in time. We propose a distance dependent forwarder selection method to disseminate traffic message. When transmitted inside a cluster, messages are forwarded along the segment from one end to the other based on the least hops principle;while transmitted among clusters, messages are transmitted in epidemic routing mode, which ensure the fast and reliable dissemination. To evaluate the performance of our protocol, we use the real traffic data of Beijing at peak hour. The simulation results demonstrate that our protocol is feasible and efficient for metropolitan-size city.

In this paper we present a process for automatically generating manuals for board games within the Ludii general game system. This process requires many different sub-tasks to be addressed, such as English translation of Ludii game descriptions, move visualisation, highlighting winning moves, strategy explanation, among others. These aspects are then combined to create a full manual for any given game. This manual is intended to provide a more intuitive explanation of a game’s rules and mechanics, particularly for players who are less familiar with the Ludii game description language and grammar.
