A hybrid memory architecture supporting fine-grained data migration

Hybrid memory systems composed of dynamic random access memory(DRAM)and Non-volatile memory(NVM)often exploit page migration technologies to fully take the advantages of different memory *** previous proposals usually migrate data at a granularity of 4 KB pages,and thus waste memory bandwidth and DRAM *** this paper,we propose Mocha,a non-hierarchical architecture that organizes DRAM and NVM in a flat address space physically,but manages them in a cache/memory *** the commercial NVM device-Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory Modules(DCPMM)actually access the physical media at a granularity of 256 bytes(an Optane block),we manage the DRAM cache at the 256-byte size to adapt to this feature of *** design not only enables fine-grained data migration and management for the DRAM cache,but also avoids write amplification for Intel Optane *** also create an Indirect Address Cache(IAC)in Hybrid Memory Controller(HMC)and propose a reverse address mapping table in the DRAM to speed up address translation and cache ***,we exploit a utility-based caching mechanism to filter cold blocks in the NVM,and further improve the efficiency of the DRAM *** implement Mocha in an architectural *** results show that Mocha can improve application performance by 8.2%on average(up to 24.6%),reduce 6.9%energy consumption and 25.9%data migration traffic on average,compared with a typical hybrid memory architecture-HSCC.

Air quality is crucial for both public health and environmental sustainability. An efficient and cost-effective model is essential for accurate air quality predictions and proactive pollution control. However, existing research primarily focuses on single static image analysis, which does not account for the dynamic and temporal nature of air pollution. Meanwhile, research on video-based air quality estimation remains limited, particularly in achieving accurate multi-pollutant outputs. This study proposes Air Quality Prediction-Mamba (AQP-Mamba), a video-based deep learning model that integrates a structured Selective State Space Model (SSM) with a selective scan mechanism and a hybrid predictor (HP) to estimate air quality. The spatiotemporal forward and backward SSM dynamically adjusts parameters based on input, ensures linear complexity, and effectively captures long-range dependencies by bidirectional processing of spatiotemporal features through four scanning techniques (row-wise, column-wise, and their vertical reversals), which allows the model to accurately track pollutant concentrations and air quality variations over time. Thus, the model efficiently extracts spatiotemporal features from video and simultaneously performs regression (PM2.5, PM10, and AQI), and classification (AQI) tasks, respectively. A high-quality outdoor hourly air quality dataset (LMSAQV) with 13,176 videos collected from six monitoring stations in Lahore, Pakistan, was utilized as the case study. The experimental results demonstrate that the AQP-Mamba significantly outperforms several state-of-the-art models, including VideoSwin-T, VideoMAE, I3D, VTHCL, and TimeSformer. The proposed model achieves strong regression performance (PM2.5: R2 = 0.91, PM10: R2 = 0.90, AQI: R2 = 0.92) and excellent classification metrics: accuracy (94.57 %), precision (93.86 %), recall (94.20 %), and F1-score (93.44 %), respectively. Robust and flexible leader-following is a critical capability for robots to integrate into human society. While existing methods struggle to generalize to leaders of arbitrary form and often fail when the leader temporarily leaves the robot’s field of view, this work introduces a unified framework addressing both challenges. First, traditional detection models are replaced with a segmentation model, allowing the leader to be anything. To enhance recognition robustness, a distance frame buffer is implemented that stores leader embeddings at multiple distances, accounting for the unique characteristics of leader-following tasks. Second, a goal-aware adaptation mechanism is designed to govern robot planning states based on the leader’s visibility and motion, complemented by a graph-based planner that generates candidate trajectories for each state, ensuring efficient following with obstacle avoidance. Simulations and real-world experiments with a legged robot follower and various leaders (human, ground robot, UAV, legged robot, stop sign) in both indoor and outdoor environments show competitive improvements in follow success rate, reduced visual loss duration, lower collision rate, and decreased leader-follower distance. In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, some subcarriers at the borders of the allocated bandwidth are usually used as guard band. Since these subcarriers, which are often referred to as virtual subcarriers, are not used for transmission, approach of conventional uniformly placed pilot tones is not applicable anymore in some situations. Therefore, it is necessary to derive the optimal pilot sequences based on the nonuniform placement of pilot tones. In this paper, we first compute the mean square error (MSE) of the least squares (LS) channel estimate for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM systems. Then, based on nonuniform pilot tone placement, we derive the optimal pilot sequences with respect to this MSE. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2005 IEEE.

The Lunar Orbiter Platform-Gateway (LOP-G) is a concept for a crew-tended cislunar space station led by the International Space Station partners: ESA, NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA and CSA for construction in the 2020s. If approved, this program will open up the way for a new international exploration programme that most likely will consists of several space assets owned by different organizations that will have to interoperate. The current focus of the involved agencies is on several mission-critical technologies that are yet to be developed to succeed in this ambitious program. Capitalizing on the experience and lessons learnt from 20 years of ISS operations, we believe that it is equally important to start working on operational interoperability aspects and agree already at this stage among all international partners on common operational concepts to make the constituting LOP-G assets interoperable. We believe that the CCSDS Mission Operations (MO) Services standard provides the right framework to achieve the adequate and necessary level of interoperability. © 2018, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. The performance and reliability of GMR heads are influenced by the level of temperature rise, which may occur in the device during the normal operation or during an electrostatic discharge (ESD) event. However, the reliable electro-thermal modeling of the GMR sensor to predict the temperature rise, demands an accurate knowledge of the thermal properties of its constituent materials such as Al2O3 passivation and GMR layers. The lateral thermal conductivity of the GMR layer, which has not been measured previously, can largely influence the maximum temperature rise in the GMR sensor. The present effort will be directed at thermal characterization of the CoFe/Cu multilayer structures made of extremely thin periodic layers, using steady-state and frequency domain heating and thermometry in suspended bridges. The measurements are performed on several suspended structures with the lengths and widths in the range of 250 to 500 μm and 16 to 20 μm, respectively.

With the further miniaturization of the GMR heads, the electrostatic discharge (ESD) failure has become the primary reliability issue in manufacturing of these sensors. The Joule heating effect during the ESD events result in both thermal and magnetic damages in GMR heads. In this paper, the thermal response of the GMR read head to the excessive current/voltage during an ESD event is investigated numerically using a 3-D finite element analysis. Unlike the previous studies, the thermal properties of the GMR and Al 2O3 gap layers used in the simulation are the experimentally measured values. The temperature-rise in GMR heads under human-body-model (HBM) source current is obtained for a range of GMR dimensions and thermal properties of its constituent materials. The simulation results show that temperature in the GMR element sharply increases as the GMR dimensions are reduced, indicating the future GMR heads are more susceptible to the ESD damages. In addition, thermal properties of the GMR and gap materials play key roles in accurate prediction of the temperature field in GMR head during ESD events.

In beacon-enabled LR-WPANs, the high reliability of beacon frame transmission is required because all transmissions are controlled by the information in the beacon frame. However, the process for the beacon-loss scenario is not carefully considered in the standard. The method proposed in this paper allows a node not receiving a beacon frame to keep transmit its pending frames only within the minimum period of CAP based on the previously received beacon frame while the standard prevents the node from sending any pending frame during a whole superframe. The method is extensively simulated and proven the enhancements on the performances. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht(Outside the USA).

Variable length decoding(VLD) is inherent bit-serial operation and is the first stage of the whole video decoding task, the overall decoding system performance is determined by its throughput and efficiency. In this paper, a scheme for decoding of discrete cosine transform(DCT) coefficients is presented. The DCT VLD tables are split into two different tables: the one with 0-3 leading zeros and the other with 4 or more leading zeros. The proposed VLD tables need less than 6K bytes memory space, and the decoding procedures are completed by applying numerical properties to codewords identification and symbol indexing. Compared with the direct indexing method, not only the memory space is reduced for symbol information, but also the code efficiency is improved by enabling compiling code with near mode. Experimental results show that the proposed solution can improve the VLD speed by 17-43%. This VLD method has been integrated into the developed embedded MPEG-4 video decoder successfully. © 2006 IEEE.
