The translation of AI-generated brain metastases (BM) segmentation into clinical practice relies heavily on diverse, high-quality annotated medical imaging datasets. The BraTS-METS 2023 challenge has gained momentum for testing and benchmarking algorithms using rigorously annotated internationally compiled real-world datasets. This study presents the results of the segmentation challenge and characterizes the challenging cases that impacted the performance of the winning algorithms. Untreated brain metastases on standard anatomic MRI sequences (T1, T2, FLAIR, T1PG) from eight contributed international datasets were annotated in stepwise method: published UNET algorithms, student, neuroradiologist, final approver neuroradiologist. Segmentations were ranked based on lesion-wise Dice and Hausdorff distance (HD95) scores. False positives (FP) and false negatives (FN) were rigorously penalized, receiving a score of 0 for Dice and a fixed penalty of 374 for HD95. The mean scores for the teams were calculated. Eight datasets comprising 1303 studies were annotated, with 402 studies (3076 lesions) released on Synapse as publicly available datasets to challenge competitors. Additionally, 31 studies (139 lesions) were held out for validation, and 59 studies (218 lesions) were used for testing. Segmentation accuracy was measured as rank across subjects, with the winning team achieving a LesionWise mean score of 7.9. The Dice score for the winning team was 0.65 ± 0.25. Common errors among the leading teams included false negatives for small lesions and misregistration of masks in space. The Dice scores and lesion detection rates of all algorithms diminished with decreasing tumor size, particularly for tumors smaller than 100 mm3. In conclusion, algorithms for BM segmentation require further refinement to balance high sensitivity in lesion detection with the minimization of false positives and negatives. Government should be able to publish and interact better for offering e-government services effectively to their netizens. In this context publish refers to delivering information through web pages and interact refers to allowing citizens to provide feedback and suggestions. Developing a model for understanding and prioritizing urban governance issues from these user-generated contents is an important research issue. This paper proposes a four-step solution approach to prioritizing urban governance issues from user-generated contents using Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA). First, a novel lexicon-based approach is used for selecting trigrams as aspect phrase and pruning the list using cross-domain stop words. Second, the opinionated sentences are extracted using the identified aspects. Third, polarity and subjectivity of the aspects and corresponding comments along with the bag-of-words for the aspects are considered as the features for learning the category of the urban issue. Fourth, the sentiment score of a specific category is used to prioritize the urban issues. The proposed methodology is applied to a real user-generated content extracted from a discussion forum on smart cities from an e-governance portal in India. Our research demonstrates that Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) with necessary modifications can be utilized to extract issues, suggestions, and ideas from crowd-sourced citizen-generated content (Social data). Sentiment analysis can be used to prioritize them as well. Analysis of the data for the candidate city shows that while the citizens are happy about educational facilities in the city they are highly concerned about health issues. A deeper investigation revealed the health issues are due to high degree of carbon emission, lack of solid waste management system and lack of sanitation among the others.

This paper presents the open-source eye tracking platform CrowdWatcher. It enables researchers to measure gaze location and user engagement in a crowdsourcing context through traditional RGB webcams. The proposed platform particularly advances the field of Quality of Experience (QoE) research, as it allows the experimenter to collect remotely and with very limited effort novel information from crowds of participants, such as their commitment towards a task, attention and decision-making processes. Two different experiments are described that were conducted to demonstrate the platform’s potential. The first experiment addresses the measurement of participants’ behavior while performing a movie selection task. Results show that the platform provides complementary information to traditional self-reported data by taking gaze analysis into account. This is of particular relevance, since in a crowdsourcing context decision processes and attention are difficult to assess, and there is often limited control over the engagement of the test user with the task. A second experiment is conducted in the scenario of a multimedia QoE test. Prediction accuracy is compared to a professional infrared eye tracker. While CrowdWatcher performs less well than the professional eye tracker, it is still able to collect valuable gaze information in the far more challenging environment of crowdsourcing. As an outlook to further application domains, the usage of the platform to measure user engagement allows participants who do not pay attention to the task to be identified.

Sensitivity loop shaping using add-on peak filters is a simple and effective method to reject narrow-band disturbances in hard disk drive (HDD) servo systems. The parallel peak filter is introduced to provide high-gain magnitude in the concerned frequency range of open-loop transfer function. Different from almost all the known peak filters that possess second-order structures, we explore in this paper bow high-order peak filters can be designed to improve the loop shaping performance. The main idea is to replace some of the constant coefficients of common second-order peak filter by frequency-related transfer functions, and then differential evolution (DE) algorithm is adopted to perform optimal design. We creatively introduce chromosome coding and fitness function design, which are original and the key steps that lead to the success of DE applications in control system design. In other words, DE is modified to achieve a novel design for hard disk drive control. Owing to the remarkable searching ability of DE, the expected shape of sensitivity function can be achieved by incorporating the resultant high-order peak filter in parallel with baseline feedback controller. As a result, a seventh-order peak filter is designed to compensate for contact-induced vibration in a high-density HDD servo system, where the benefits of high-order filter are clearly demonstrated.

Aims. Mrk 421 was in its most active state around early 2010, which led to the highest TeV gamma-ray flux ever recorded from any active galactic nuclei (AGN). We aim to characterize the multiwavelength behavior during this exceptional year for Mrk 421, and evaluate whether it is consistent with the picture derived with data from other less exceptional years. Methods. We investigated the period from November 5, 2009, (MJD 55140) until July 3, 2010, (MJD 55380) with extensive coverage from very-high-energy (VHE;E > 100 GeV) gamma rays to radio with MAGIC, VERITAS, Fermi-LAT, RXTE, Swift, GASP-WEBT, VLBA, and a variety of additional optical and radio telescopes. We characterized the variability by deriving fractional variabilities as well as power spectral densities (PSDs). In addition, we investigated images of the jet taken with VLBA and the correlation behavior among different energy bands. Results. Mrk 421 was in widely different states of activity throughout the campaign, ranging from a low-emission state to its highest VHE flux ever recorded. We find the strongest variability in X-rays and VHE gamma rays, and PSDs compatible with power-law functions with indices around 1.5. We observe strong correlations between X-rays and VHE gamma rays at zero time lag with varying characteristics depending on the exact energy band. We also report a marginally significant (∼ 3σ) positive correlation between high-energy (HE;E > 100 MeV) gamma rays and the ultraviolet band. We detected marginally significant (∼ 3σ) correlations between the HE and VHE gamma rays, and between HE gamma rays and the X-ray, that disappear when the large flare in February 2010 is excluded from the correlation study, hence indicating the exceptionality of this flaring event in comparison with the rest of the campaign.
