K-SVD (K-Singular Value Decomposition)is a com-monly used dictionary learning method that progressively opti-mizes dictionaries to better represent data by iterating sparse coding and dictionary update steps. However, with the increasing data size, the traditional K -SVD method faces significant challenges in terms of computational efficiency. Therefore, this paper proposes an asynchronous distributed parallel K-SVD method based on Ray framework to cope with the computational efficiency problem in large-scale data processing. This method achieves efficient parallel computation by decomposing the sparse coding and dictionary updating steps of the K-SVD method into multiple independent tasks and utilizing the distributed scheduling capability of the Ray framework. Since the zero elements of the coefficient matrix are unevenly distributed, we introduce a stride partitioning approach when performing the decomposition. In addition, in order to avoid the method falling into local optima and failing to find global optima due to parallelism, this paper synchronizes with the global at the same time as the atomic update of the dictionary. Meanwhile, for the purpose of avoiding the overhead caused by data synchronization, a parameter server is introduced to realize asynchronous updating of dictionary and coefficient matrix to reduce the overhead caused by communication. The experimental results show that, compared with the traditional K-SVD method, the method proposed in this paper has a significant advantage in computational efficiency and is able to efficiently process hyperspectral image datasets under the premise of guaranteeing the sparse representation accuracy. Compared with the synchronous parallel K-SVD method, the proposed method has faster error convergence and does not fall into local optima.

In this paper we attack the white-box AES implementation with Differential Correlation Analysis (DCA) and fault injection, which are major risks the white-box AES implementation is facing now. A differential computation analysis (DCA) attack strategy is presented targeted at the implementation of the white-box AES algorithm based on a combination T-box. Using the DCA attack method, 16 subkeys are extracted successfully, which underscores the presence of a notable side-channel security vulnerability within the white-box AES encryption scheme. In order to improve the protection ability of the scheme against side-channel attacks, the enhanced rotating S-box masking scheme is adopted. No security risk has been detected which proves the validity of the mask scheme. Moreover, this research performs the fault injection attack on white-box implementation. However, the process typically demands substantial time and resources due to its manual testing nature. To optimize the method, we introduce an intelligent fault injection algorithm utilizing a genetic algorithm, which automates the fault injection attack to white-box implementation. This proposed scheme exemplifies intelligence and automation in the testing process. The empirical comparison highlights that the automated fault injection algorithm significantly enhances attack efficiency by 980% when compared to the random parameter search method. © 2023 IEEE.

Software defects are faults or bugs within a program that can lead to incorrect or unexpected outcomes. Efficiently allocating software quality assurance (SQA) resources to components with a higher likelihood of defects, based on software defect prediction (SDP) models, can save significant effort. Although SDP has been extensively studied in classical software, its applicability to quantum software remains unexplored. Defect prediction for quantum software presents unique challenges, including the susceptibility to quantum-specific defects arising from quantum coding conventions and the limited size of available datasets. To address these issues, we propose QDP-FSL, an SDP model using a pre-trained code model to capture the semantics of quantum software code, and applying few-shot learning (FSL) to learn effectively from a small number of defective samples. Results show that QDP-FSL outperforms baseline methods that rely on static analysis. This work lays the foundation for future research in defect prediction for quantum software engineering and outlines potential directions for further improvement.

Dormant open-source software (OSS) dependencies are no longer maintained or actively developed, their related code components are more vulnerable and error-prone since they can hardly keep up with evolving software dependents. Presently, their migration remains costly and challenging for practitioners. To tackle such a challenge, we intend to characterize, predict, and automatically migrate high-risk dormant OSS dependencies. Our pilot study of 4,945 Maven dependencies reveals over half of them are dormant, and 12.15% pose a high security risk. These high-risk dependencies can be predicted early based on their version release and usage characteristics. They are rarely migrated by developers, and simple one-to-one API migrations can be achieved with little context using Large Language Models (LLMs). Future research will be conducted on a more complete dataset, incorporate socio-technical features for improved high-risk prediction, and fine-tune a migration code generator.

This article explores the use of electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) and multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) for subsurface characterization of pile road embankments in Ayutthaya, Thailand. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of these geophysical techniques and identify any limitations or challenges faced during data collection and analysis. ERI is employed to evaluate changes in resistivity before and after pile installation, providing insights into variations in material properties. MASW is used to estimate shear wave velocities, particularly focusing on the impact of pile installation on subsurface strength. The results reveal significant changes in subsurface properties following pile installation, indicating variations in material rigidity and strength near the piles. However, challenges were encountered in accurately determining the depth of piles using ERI due to potential interference from off-plane objects. These findings highlight the importance of integrating multiple geophysical techniques for comprehensive subsurface characterization. Further research is recommended to address these limitations and enhance accuracy in assessing subsurface conditions for road embankments constructed on soft clay terrain.

Software testing is the most essential part of software development life cycle. It involves the execution of a software component to evaluate one or more properties of interest. Software testing also helps to identify errors (defects), gaps or missing requirements in conflicting with the actual requirements. It can be either conducted manually or through the use of automated tools. The testing of software assures and provides confidence to business about the readiness of software. If it is bypassed or not conducted properly, the software may not function as expected in production. Therefore, poor quality software may not serve its purpose and it may hinder the business to continue. As result, the organization may lose its customers, potential customers as well as loss in profits. The image of the organization may also be tainted. The interpretivist approach was applied in this study. Semi-structured technique was used for data collection from the qualitative approach perspective. The duality of structure from Structuration theory was employed as lens to guide analysis of the data. Based on the findings, challenges encountered during software testing were identified.

Engineering design learning for high school and college first-year students in a STEM battlebot design project

There is a worldwide trend to include engineering design in high school curricula as a bridge course to higher-level STEM education and to increase high school students’ interest in STEM fields. This study used a battlebot design curriculum to compare engineering design learning between high school and college first-year students and then proposed suggestions for curriculum planning that promoted the continuity of learning between different levels of engineering design education. This study used the creative product analysis matrix (CPAM) and lag sequential analysis (LSA) to explore the possible similarities and differences between the two groups’ understanding of engineering design. The results show that college first-year students were significantly better than high school students in CPAM, but the two groups were similar in their reflections on engineering design behaviors, indicating that the noncumulative learning results must be taken seriously. Higher-order engineering design thinking skills take a longer time to develop than technical skills. For both high school and college first-year students, it is important to enhance their higher-order engineering design thinking skills to promote higher engineering design performance. Moreover, high school students could be provided with convenient processing tools and easy-to-use, hands-on techniques to increase their technical skills. Educators from institutions of higher education and K-12 schools should work together to develop pedagogical models that provide rigorous, well-rounded education and outstanding engineering design instructions to most effectively cultivate STEM talent.

Due to the exponential increase in electricity demand driven by increase in economic activities, the electrical infrastructure operation will be impacted due to the need to transmit more power to the end users. Although the existing electrical infrastructure is designed to accommodate more additional capacity, some of the transmission lines will be operating closer to their thermal capacity limits. This can cause adverse system challenges if it is not addressed in the form of building additional electrical lines that will accommodate and transmit more capacity will be planned to be introduced within the power system. However, capital constraints, servitude or right of way (RoW) acquisition, line construction duration and other legislative requirements pose a significant stumbling block in building of new lines. The utilisation of the existing lines and recycling servitude in transmitting more power remains an attractive option, provided it is carefully planned and designed. However, the process of planning and designing for capacity uprating of lines is not systematically outlined for ease of implementation. The aim of this study is that of documenting and demonstrating the systematic process to be followed when considering the uprating of an existing line considering various options that can be implemented. The results demonstrate the capacity achieved including the benefits derived within the South African power system.

The goal of the study was to conduct a series of tram-pedestrian collisions to assess the head injuries as the result of the secondary impact with the surrounding infrastructure (ground). The crash tests were conducted with an anthropomorphic test device for two collision scenarios: the initial frontal and side impact with a tram. Four tram types travelling at four different speeds (5 km/h, 10 km/h, 15 km/h, 20 km/h) were used. The primary outcome variable was the resultant head acceleration. The risk and severity of possible head injuries were assessed using the head injury criterion (HIC15). The results showed increasing head impacts with increasing speed for all tram types and collisions. The higher values of head acceleration were reached during the frontal impact (97-1677 g) compared to the side one (19-607 g). The HIC15 values showed a similar trend, exceeding the value of 1000 consistently during the initial frontal impact compared to the side one. This corresponded to a very high probability of AIS4+ injuries in the case of initial frontal impact. The secondary impact with the surrounding infrastructure was found more dangerous in the case of initial frontal impact, possibly resulting in more severe injuries. However, both collision scenarios showed much higher values compared to the primary impact between a tram and pedestrian. © 2022 IEEE.

Urothelial carcinoma(UC)is a common malignant tumor in the urinary system with high recurrence rate and low survival rate 5 years after *** present,imaging examination and other diagnostic methods have some shortcomings such as invasiveness and ***,it is urgent to develop a simple,rapid,noninvasive,highly sensitive and highly specific strategy to diagnose ***,a high-performance fluorescence sensor was constructed by the plasmonic gold nanorods(AuNRs)-enhanced near-infrared(NIR)fluorescence of silver sulfide quantum dots(Ag_(2)S QDs).The designed sensor can be used for the fast and accurate detection of small molecule single-transmembrane protein(FXYD3),which is overexpressed in 90%of ureteral cancers and 84%of high-grade bladder *** to its high specificity,the NIR fluorescence sensor achieves the detection of FXYD3 in the range of 0.25-150 ng·ml^(-1)with a detection limit of 0.2 ng·ml^(-1).Importantly,it also can be used for accurate diagnosis of FXYD3 in the urine of patients with relevant cancers,and the results are consistent with clinical cystoscopy and pathological *** proposed fluorescence sensor provides a simple,ultrasensitive,reliable method for UC screening,tumor-grade classification and postoperative monitoring and will have great potential for clinical applications.
