Robust|$(\mathcal{Q},\mathcal{S},\mathcal{R})$|-|$\gamma$|-dissipative sliding mode control for uncertain discrete-time descriptor systems with time-varying delay

In this study, a robust sliding mode-based learning control strategy for a class of non-linear discrete-time descriptor systems with time-varying delay and external disturbance is developed. A new sliding function is proposed and a sufficient condition is derived to guarantee the sliding mode dynamics to be robustly admissible and|$(\mathcal{Q},\mathcal{S},\mathcal{R})$|-|$\gamma$|-dissipative. Moreover, a sliding-mode control law is proposed such that the reaching motion satisfies the discrete-time sliding mode reaching condition for all admissible uncertainties and time-varying delay. The appealing attributes of this approach include: (i) the closed-loop system exhibits a strong robustness against uncertain dynamics and (ii) the control scheme enjoys the chattering-free characteristic. Two representative examples are given to illustrate the theoretical developments.

BACKGROUND:The United Kingdom reported the emergence of a new and highly transmissible SARS-CoV-2 variant (B.1.1.7) that rapidly spread to other countries. The impact of this new mutation-which occurs in the S protein-on infectivity, virulence, and current vaccine effectiveness is still under evaluation. OBJECTIVE:The aim of this study is to sequence SARS-CoV-2 samples of cases in Romania to detect the B.1.1.7 variant and compare these samples with sequences submitted to GISAID. METHODS:SARS-CoV-2 samples were sequenced and amino acid substitution analysis was performed using the CoV-GLUE platform. RESULTS:We have identified the first cases of the B.1.1.7 variant in samples collected from Romanian patients, of which one was traced to the region of the United Kingdom where the new variant was originally sequenced. Mutations in nonstructural protein 3 (Nsp3; N844S and D455N) and ORF3a (L15F) were also detected, indicating common ancestry with UK strains as well as remote connections with strains from Nagasaki, Japan. CONCLUSIONS:These results indicate, for the first time, the presence and characteristics of the new variant B.1.1.7 in Romania and underscore the need for increased genomic sequencing in patients with confirmed COVID-19.

This paper addresses the problem of constructing bearing rigid networks in arbitrary dimensions. We first show that the bearing rigidity of a network is a generic property that is critically determined by the underlying graph of the network. A new notion termed generic bearing rigidity is defined for graphs. If the underlying graph of a network is generically bearing rigid, then the network is bearing rigid for almost all configurations;otherwise, the network is not bearing rigid for any configuration. As a result, the key to construct bearing rigid networks is to construct generically bearing rigid graphs. The main contribution of this paper is to prove that Laman graphs, which can be generated by the Henneberg construction, are generically bearing rigid in arbitrary dimensions. As a consequence, if the underlying graph of a network is Laman, the network is bearing rigid for almost all configurations in arbitrary dimensions. © 2017 IEEE.

Heat and mass transfer in an adjacent internally-cooled membrane-based liquid desiccant dehumidifier (AIMLDD)

An adjacent internally-cooled membrane-based liquid desiccant dehumidifier (AIMLDD) is proposed and used for air dehumidification. The AIMLDD is a parallel-plate membrane contactor, which contains cooling channels. The air and the solution streams are separated by selectively permeable membranes, while the solution and the water streams are separated by plastic plate. The air stream flows in a cross-flow arrangement with the solution stream, while the solution stream flows in a co-current flow arrangement with the water stream. Establish a mathematical model in a unit cell, which contains half of an air channel, a piece of membrane, a solution channel, a piece of plastic plate, and half of a cooling channel, to research the conjugate heat and mass transports in the AIMLDD. Use a finite difference method to solve the normalized equations governing momentum, heat and mass transports. The dehumidification amount, the efficiency and outlet parameters are then obtained. A continuous air dehumidification system based on the AIMLDD is set up to validate the numerical results. Compare the efficiency under different condition and different structure of the membrane contactor. It can be found that the dehumidification amount and the efficiency for the AIMLDD are higher than those for an adiabatic one.

In this paper, learning of the FCMs represented using triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs) in their weight matrices is studied. For this aim a population based novel learning approach is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, BB-BC optimization method is preferred because of its fast convergence capability. Moreover, this proposed approach involves concept by concept (CbC) learning to increase the accuracy of the learning of FCMs. Two different tests are realized as case studies for investigating the performance of the learning approach. For the first test, the learning capability of the algorithm is examined and for the second test the performance of generalization capability is investigated. The tests, which are presented via tables and figures, show that learning approach is successful for learning of FCMs with TFNs. Furthermore, from the case study it can be seen that the uncertain information can be represented and interpreted by the proposed FCM design methodology in a more efficient way.

In this paper, a two-level coordinating control approach is developed for the islanded operation of a microgrid system. The microgrid includes n parallel connections of distributed generation (DG) units. These units and the load are connected to the common coupling point (PCC). In the islanded operation of the microgrid, the master DG unit handles the voltage and frequency control of the load, and the slaves DG units regulate their power components based on utilizing the conventional dq-current control strategy. It is shown that the parallel connection of n DG units in islanded mode forms an interconnected control system which is conveniently controlled in a two-level coordinating scheme. MATLAB simulations of a typical microgrid system have illustrated the effective performance under the developed control strategy.
