Future mobile and terrestrial communication systems B5G/6G are strongly expected to heterogeneously realize typically diversified performances, i.e. high-data-rate, high-mobility, low-latency, high-capacity, massive-connectivity and low-energy in order to satisfy the highly diversified application requirements. To achieve those goals the operation band of B5G/6G should be primarily in the millimeter-wave (mmW) range. Generation and distribution of mmW with traditional methods is limited by elec.ronic bottleneck and associated complexity. Consequently broad bandwidth, simple, efficient, and cost-effective photonic mmW-over-fiber (mmWoF) transmission systems are solutions for B5G/6G. The spectral purity of mmW carriers is necessary. Numerous approaches have been proposed to generate pure mmW signals. Compared with other technologies, quantum dash or dot (QD) coherent comb lasers (QD CCLs) have great advantages for mmW generation because QD-CCLs with low power consumption and chip-scale integration capacity with silicon can provide multiple highly correlated and low noise optical channels. In this paper we will present our developed InAs/InP QD-CCLs around 1550 nm with the channel spacing from 10 GHz to 1000 GHz and the output power up to 50 mW. By using a C-band QD CCL and based on the single- and dual-optical carrier modulation schemes, an up to 16-Gb/s mmWoF optical heterodyne wireless signal at 28 GHz through a 25-km single mode fiber before the mmW carrier is optically synthesized remotely for detection over a 2-m free space. The data capacity and performance of the proposed mmWoF link can be significantly increased by utilizing a duplex mmWoF link with MIMO and WDM technique, which provides a cost-efficient and promising solution for Terabit/s capacity mmWoF fronthaul systems of B5G/6G networks. © 2024 SPIE.

The domain of software design is gaining a long overdue recognition as a vital discipline within software engineering, necessitating innovative approaches to its teaching in undergraduate education. Despite the growing importance of software design, academic programs often treat it as a secondary skill, overshadowed by the strong emphasis on coding. Only a few schools offer a design degree or dedicated design courses. This disparity between industry demands and educational practices underscores the need for novel pedagogical strategies. In our innovative work, we discuss a new way of effectively teaching software design-by-analogy for undergraduates to help them rapidly acquire the essential skills needed to design complex software without getting entangled in complex code generation and management. Software design does not necessarily follow the same clear delineation/separation between modules and components naturally apparent in tangible engineering domains. We employ 'Conceptual Blending' to help students map their everyday experiences onto software design concepts. The process begins with students analyzing a simple two-arm watch to identify its user interface and create a finite state automaton for its interaction design. Success rates decline as the complexity of the watches increases, underscoring the software design challenges. By comparing these exercises to software interfaces, students learn to apply design techniques such as navigation modeling and prototyping, ensuring they can create intuitive, user-friendly software. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing demand for cloud computing and cloud storage services in recent years have caused the unprecedented growth of data centers in the world. As the main consumers of energy, these growing data centers spend a lot of money on their power consumption every year. One of the most important consequences of the power production process is the increase in environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The power sector which is dependent on fossil fuels, is one of the main sources of carbon dioxide emissions in the world and plays a significant role in increasing greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to global warming and accelerated climate change. Therefore, the problem of enhancing and transforming the process of generation and consumption of energy in data centers and utilizing energy-efficient technologies has become more important. To overcome this problem, it is essential to integrate renewable energy as a clean source of energy, inexhaustible and always available, into data centers. In this article, we provide a taxonomy of the literature on methods of production, utilization, forecasting, and management of renewable energy integration into data centers. We discuss research challenges and open issues for future work to facilitate current and future researchers to work on the research problems in the field of renewable energy utilization in cloud data centers. © 2023 IEEE.

Marketing Intelligence (MI) is the process of collecting and applying information to formulate effective marketing strategies. Currently, the information on MI at XYZ University still does not fully describe the user's needs and it can be improved so that its use can be successfully used by end-users. The research question is what key success factors are needed to build marketing intelligence in higher education. The objective of this study is to ascertain the critical success factors of marketing intelligence needed by universities. This study uses a qualitative research method, namely SLR conducting a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) that involves a comprehensive analysis of marketing intelligence. This research produces several factors that determine the success of marketing intelligence, consisting of Technology;Strategic, Tactical, Operational;Small and Medium Enterprise (SM E)'s Performance;Predictors and Consequences;Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty;Environment;Concept, Overview;Sales Forces;External Intelligence;Internal Information;Talent Management;Individual Sources;Information Sources;Personal Factors;and Organizational. The impact of this research is that universities that aim to develop and implement marketing intelligence can pay attention to technology, personal factors, and strategic/tactical/operational variables which are the 3 critical variables for building marketing intelligence. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate time-frequency analysis (TFA)-based spectral gap-filling and fast Fourier transform (FFT) and particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based coherent processing methods for achieving multi-band-radar fusion in the radar receiver. For the proof-of-The-concept demonstration, we generate photonics-based S-band (2GHz-4GHz) and C-band (6GHz-8GHz) linear frequency modulated (Ph-LFM) radar transmission signals using a dual-drive-Mach-Zehnder modulator (DDMZM) and simulate them in a multi-band-radar setup to detect two objects. Using the proposed TFA-based spectral gap-filling method, the missing band signal (4GHz-6GHz) is estimated and fused with two echos of the S-band and C-band to achieve 6GHz bandwidth. Through the FFT and PSO-based coherent processing, the phase and amplitude imbalance among the bands is corrected, leading to a 12 dB improvement in peak-To-sidelobe level power in the range-profile compared to without coherent processing. This ensures the effectiveness of the proposed band fusion methods in enhancing resolution in multi-band radar systems. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose and demonstrate a photonically generated orthogonal up-down-chirp pair based multi-chirp linear frequency modulation (Ph-O-MLFM) radar waveform that offers inherent interference-resistant capability in detecting target objects in a multi-radar environment. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, in a simulation setup, we generate 4GHz, 1μs, Ph-O-MLFM and commonly used photonics-based LFM (Ph-LFM) signals using a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DDMZM) incorporating photonics-based bandwidth synthesis. To evaluate the performance, we compare the effects of varying chirp rate and time period LFM interference signals on object detection with Ph-LFM and the proposed Ph-O-MLFM waveforms by analyzing the range profile obtained from the matched filtering method. The results demonstrate that the Ph-O-MLFM waveform mitigates LFM interferences with a peak-To-sidelobe power level of >11dB, and a range resolution of 4cm, whereas the Ph-LFM waveform is susceptible to coherent LFM interference. These results highlight the potential utilization of the proposed Ph-O-MLFM waveform in multi-radar environments. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper addresses the urgent challenges of escalating global warming, rapid ozone layer depletion, and persistent greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions exacerbated by nations' reluctance to limit industrial emissions for economic growth. This has prompted a global shift towards exploring alternative strategies for pollution mitigation, including transitioning from conventional power generation to sustainable energy resources and a move from gasoline-based transportation to elec.ric vehicles (EVs). Particularly critical is the question of whether this transition genuinely yields environmental benefits, or if it potentially exacerbates existing challenges, especially in underdeveloped or developing countries heavily reliant on fossil fuel-generated elec.ricity. The paper presents a concise comparative analysis between elec.ric Vehicles (EVs) and Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs), examining GHG emissions throughout their lifetimes, during manufacturing, and in terms of fuel consumption. Additionally, it explores the energy mix of developing countries compared to the global scenario, presenting results for the comparison between ICEVs and EVs using elec.ricity from coal, gas, nuclear, and a balanced energy mix-dominated power system. The study identifies opportunities for improvement in EV adoption and emission mitigation strategies, offering valuable insights into sustainable practices and environmental conservation. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an airborne traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) testing stimulus generation module based on the zero intermediate frequency (ZIF) transceiver architecture. Data correction algorithms and intrusion signal simulation techniques are discussed. According to the requirement of TCAS scenario simulations, Multiple intrusion signals with horizontal and vertical dynamic characteristics can be generated. Compared with classic signal simulation solutions, the proposed module has the advantages of high integration, high reusability and low cost, and can meet the requirement of internal field testing of airborne TCAS devices, which has a broad application prospect. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes a self-calibration based high resolution frequency measurement method. Based on the analog interpolation technique of time-to-amplitude conversion, the measurement of two ways standard time interval is added to reduce the error introduced by temperature change and voltage drift. The measurement data are processed using the least square method to diminish random errors. Test results show that the frequency measurement resolution reaches 12 bits/s and the measurement accuracy is better than ±0.02ppm. Compared with classic measurement techniques, the proposed approach has a broad application prospect as it improves frequency measurement resolution and measurement accuracy with lower cost and convenient calibration. © 2023 IEEE.

The Digital Logic and computer Architecture related courses are one of the key knowledge areas in computer science (CS) used to enhance students' understanding of Boolean algebra, logic gates, registers, arithmetic logic units, etc. and provides insights how software and hardware are related in a computing system. Experimental Centric based Instructional Pedagogy (ECP) with portable laboratory instrumentation might provide real hands-on experience to obtain a practical understanding of the concepts at a lower cost compared to virtual hands-on laboratories. This paper presents the initial adaptation of an evidence-based, experiment-focused teaching approach to introduce the fundamentals of digital logic concepts using the commercial ADALM 1K Active Learning Module in a computer Architecture course for the first time in the CS department at a university serving predominantly minority students. To evaluate the impact of the ECP on student performance in the computer Architecture course, we conducted three different evaluations, which are class observation, signature assignment, and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaires (MLSQ) survey. The results of the Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS) show more student engagement when ECP is implemented;the output of the signature assignment shows an increase in students' learning outcomes;and the MLSQ survey, which tests the students' motivation, critical thinking, curiosity, collaboration, and metacognition, ascertains the effect of the ECP on the CS students who participated in the experiment. © 2022 IEEE.
